Gotta love Steve Simmons for stirring up crap in Leafland.

Time to raise the level of discourse in here and bring a touch of much-needed class while we're at it.

So...um...

...this sucks. :(

Oh god I don't know what I'll do if the Ducks win the cup. Commit seppuku or something. SOMEBODY STOP THEM
except the Sharks
. GO WINGS, GO BUFFALO, ARGH.

Sorry Canucks.
The Preds and Flames already ate all the pumpkin pie. The Oilers and Lightning drank all the punch too. So yea.
We left some beets in the fridge for you though.

You guys missed out on the party. The Panthers brought these hot girls and it was bumping, but I saw them leave with the Penguins and Thrashers. We're gonna go home now, early tee time. Would invite you guys, but it's a bit too late to add you in.

Um, the Blues and Leafs are playing Magic: The Gathering in the corner there if you're bored.

So yea... have fun...

oh god it smells like death in here

Welcome in Mike, fear not we're all brothers in here until the next season begins. The sweet smells of summer are near, free agency, the draft, all that good stuff. We shall overcome.

Edit: almost forgot

ahhh, well it was a good run for the canucks. its a solid defense to build on for next year. can we please just buy some damn offense during the offseason.

ah well....

might as well talk about something

does anyone have NHL07 for 360???

I'm on my 3rd season as Montreal, and I won the cup year 1, lost in the ECF to Buffalo, and have a 10-4 record so far...

its crazy fun, here are my lines:

Ovechkin-Koivu-Ryder
Kovalchuck-Drury-Frolov
Higgins-Peca-Perezhogin
Shishkanov-Perrault-Kostitsyn

Souray-Markov
Hannan-Timonen
Dandenault-Komisarek

eh, I only have 230k left in cap space, and theres no way I can sign Ovechkin since hes asking for too much and its his last year on his contract...

so the question is, should I trade Ovy and get a lot in return, or should I keep him and lose him to Free Agency???

decisions, decisions :(

just stay away from my preds. no hartnell or kariya for you, plz

i'd like for nonis to get rid of morrison but seriously, who wants a 3.2 million dollar 3rd line center? i think we're stuck with him for one more year unfortunately.

what this team needs is a sniper to play alongside naslund and try to get him alive again and a big net crasher for the sedins, someone with some skill.

if you ask me those are the missing links in this team, because if the sedins got that big presence in front of the net and naslund + some awesome guy are sniping shots in on the second line, you got two bonafide first lines playing for you getting more than enough offense than what this team needs, all of a sudden teams like anaheim have two lines to worry about, not just one and kinda one.

i hope to see kesler and green back, kesler more or less for the 3rd line duties, maybe second line if pyatt doesn't get resigned, green's a very good 4th line shaker and a good penalty killer.

lindens definitely a man who, if he's willing to, we should sign. he's such a heart player and can step up to second line fill-em-up roles if someone goes down with injury.

bulis needs to go.
fitzy, sorry pal, outta here.
santala can be let go for all i care.

sopel was a disappointment, he had an excellent first 10 games or so and then went back to his old invisibility tricks. with our depth in the back end, he's expendable.

smolinski i thought would be a good depth move at the deadline but before i was dead set against him and now i know why; he sucks, no chemistry with anyone, no skill, no real anything. he's the guy who is good for the 6th goal in a 6 - 1 win. he needs to go.

as for free agents, lord knows who the canucks should get, there's a lot out there this year that could help us and if we could only lose morrisons contract we'd have a whole heap of space.

just my thoughts.

Why do I get the feeling Nonis could probably get something awesome in return for Morrison?

I mean, the guy seems to get the best deals on cheap out of all the NHL General Managers.

2nd round pick for Smolinski, 2nd and 4th round pick for Sopel? The guy is a business genius.

On the plus side, he totally ruined Keenan's future as a GM. :D

Sigh, I wish they had build a bigger rink ...

Manitoba Tories promise to lure in NHL

5/7/2007 1:06:04 PM

WINNIPEG (CP) - Manitoba's provincial election campaign has turned its attention to hockey with the Conservatives promising to bring the NHL back to Winnipeg.

Standing alongside former Winnipeg Jet Thomas Steen, Tory Leader Hugh McFadyen said he'll work with the private sector to bring back the team, who left Manitoba a decade ago.

McFadyen won't say how much taxpayer money he'd be willing to put up, but says the government could follow Manitoba Hydro's example and raise money by issuing bonds.

He also says he would consider a special lottery to raise money as well as a players tax similar to one implemented in Alberta at one time.

The Tory leader says an NHL team would make Manitoba more attractive to young people and help stem the tide of university graduates who leave for Alberta.

HAY GUYS

Whats up?

Sharks 07-08:

Summer 2007 UFA's: Rivet, Hannan, Guerin, Smith, Traverse, Fergusen, Stafford, and Darche

Summer 2007 RFA's: Cavanaugh, Iggulden, Macho, Davison, Patzold, Plihal, Armstrong, Olson, and Valette.

UFA's after the 07-08 season: Thornton, Marleau, Toskala, Brown, Rissmiller, and Mink.

Goals:

Re-sign:
- Rivet
- Hannan
== key elements of our improving defense

Let Walk:
- Guerin
== useless
- Smith
== I'd love to see him stay, but best to open the space up for youth

The Rest of the Summer 2007 UFAs and RFAs: Most of them kept at minimal contracts, or used as fodder in trades

Extend 2008 Contracts:
- Thornton
- Brown
- Rismiller

Trade:
- Nabokov or Toskala
== Keep Toskala if we can negotiate a contract this year for cheap
- Bell
== someone please take this **** off our hands
- Marleau
== Captain Choke must go.
== Two years in a row of not being able to jolt his team from slumber
== Only 1 year left on contract, but could help receive defensive rental
== Probably could have only kept Thornton or Marleau. Clearly Thornton over Marleau.

Look for:
- Proven, Playoff-ready, Defenseman / Offensive Defense
- A Wing for Thornton

Expected new Youth in lineup:
- Setoguchi
- Some of the new faces in the RFA list

Notes:
- Ron Wilson stays. Great coach, nothing better on the market.
- Give Mike Grier the C.
- The new adjustments to the Tank next year will make it look hot, but sound quiet =\

We have most of the team in place, just more tweaking and some leadership change is needed. A team tweaked as described above could easily make a cup run if they showed up for all 60 minutes of every game - regular season and playoffs.

26 teams all searching for the answer, who will lead us to the promised land? Why did we fail? What lies ahead of us?

26 brothers in arms.

Just getting ready. I'm putting the conference finalists in their own little space, cause they've achieved so much.

Looking through my Hockey News Draft Preview, and I think it's going to be another really interesting draft. Nice and wide open at the top and fairly deep too, I'm already identifying the guys I think might drop a bit that the Flames might pick up.

Okay so I heard this on FAN590 yesterday from Nick Kypreos, so take this with a grain of salt.

He said he has heard rumblings within MLSE that they want Colangelo to take over. Possibly taking Peddie's job. I know it's been talked about a lot here in Toronto ever since he turned around the Raptors, but this is the first time I've heard any of the sports analyst talk about it not as wishful thinking.

CURSE THAT SEAN HILL! IT'S A CONSPIRACY AGAINST THE LEAF NATION!

It all makes sense, the Isles were on the juice, how else can you explain their late season surge? It was probably more than just Hill, Leaf Nation again comes away looking good.
