The Leafs make me start this thread earlier and earlier each season. I've started this thread the last few years in a row, minus last year when I was unjustly banned for a month.Marvie_3 said:Wow, this thread has become the Manics Show.
DopeyFish said:City of Glendale is basically throwing Reinsdorf under the bus and going after Ice Edge apparently.
They're in scramble mode - either Ice Edge buys or the coyotes are moving back to winnipeg. there isn't much time left.
chipman (the top dude of the group interested in buying the coyotes and moving them) is being hush hush too, they're building a new training facility in winnipeg. the manitoba moose hasn't committed to playing next year (!!) this is very important because the moose use the MTS center and they wouldn't be able to share with another NHL team (supposedly)
don't get your hopes up yet though, ice edge still has the potential to fuck this all up, but there's a slight chance the jets are coming back to winnipeg.

the sublease to the NHL expires the day the stanley cup is awarded and the lease for glendale reverts to moyes, meaning the nhl can sell the coyotes and it can move freely
NHL-GAF should all chip in and buy them.BigJonsson said:Bob McCown was saying last week that he heard the Reinsdorf deal was possibly as low as 60 million dollars and another person on the show said he also heard it was low, but not that low and the NHL governors might not be happy with that based on what they each put in to buy the team last year and keep Ballsilie out of the league.
McCown also doubted that Ice Edge could get anywhere near as much money and Glendale was just taking the best deal it could get from the only two bidders......
Seems like Winnipeg has a very legit shot at this unless someone else pops up at the 11th hour
You should show it off in the Playoffs thread.lordoftherink said:

Just heard on PTI that Sidney is moving out of Mario's home at last.
All those old flunky ex Habs coaches need to go. Look at Michel Thierren : fired Pens win Cup. Then you got Vigneault out in Vancouver, 2 straight years losing the same way, no answers, no adjustments. Now Julien in Boston biggest choke in playoff history. Who's the next team to be duped into hiring a late 90s early 2000s Habs coach? Mario Tremblay anyone?vatstep said:Fire Claude Julien.
Hire Mike Milbury.
Cup = won
This was discussed in the playoff thread. Apparently Mario kicked his ass to the curb. They were most likely having issues at home and it affected Cindy on ice.Kave_Man said:Breaking news!!

I believe it was some team between 10-12 that said they would be willing to trade their 1st rounder. Prime bait for a Kaberle trade. So hopefully, the Leafs will have SOMETHING to do at the draft.
Leafs need 4 forwards as they'll likely sign Kulemin. Rumors say one will be Colby Armstrong. I wouldn't mind Primeau and MAYBE Mitchell to resign (though I hope not). We have enough money to make a big push for Tomas Plekanec. We also have tons of cap space and money to work with so we can take awful contracts and bury them in the minors easily.
Definitely need a No.1 centre (sigh...which could've been Seguin...), and complementary scoring. Kessel is a bona fide 1st liner, and he was able to score 30 goals with freakin Stajan of all people. I would like to see Bozak and maybe Stalberg step up their games to make a legit no.1 line. Grabovski needs to work on the defensive side AND needs to work on shooting. We're stuck with him, and need him to make a legit no.2 line with Caputi and who knows who else...God we suck....
Leafs have 7 defensemen under contract and there needs to be some change. Kaberle is likely gone...so that leaves us with a decent 6. Sigh...I know Komisarek is a freakin Pylon and Beauchimen is overrated, but they need to play their style of game and not overextend their abilities. Gunnarson is amazing, Schenn will play better because Phaneuf will teach him and handle the bigger minutes. Plus, I think Schenn will be playing the left side, which is his natural position (I believe?). Exelby is gone. Finger...hopefully we can trade his ass back to Colorado...for a bag of pucks. Likely we'll trade him for a late rounder and an unwanted player.
I am worried though since we really only have Aulie as a defensive prospect...and who knows how serious that injury he sustained is. Far as I know, we have NO offensive defensive prospects...
Goaltending is a huge issue for me. I am NOT confident in Gigure after watching him play down the stretch. Thus, I hope the Monster can step up his game. Thankfully, we signed a lot of goalie prospects.
Overall, the biggest issues with the Leafs this season wasn't talent. Yeah, that sounds insane, but I'd like to put a lot of the blame on Ron Wilson. TONS of too many men penalties, terrible PK (the FUCK would you put Wallin on there?!!?!?), horrendous PP (Honestly? With Kessel, Phaneuf, Kaberle we should've had a much better outing), and extremely poor defensive coverage and puck possession. The only positive thing I can say about the Leafs is that they worked hard and their conditioning was excellent.
Granted, the team kept changing and people weren't used to his style of coaching, and we are now paying the price for JFJ's idiocy (Rask/Raycroft, Tlusty, Toskala, Blake, etc); however, you have to work what you have and Wilson isn't the man for the job.
I would also strongly suggest overhauling our shitty scouting department. We supposedly have some of the best in the league, but where are the late round gems? Best player we've drafted in the past decade and a half is Kaberle and Rask. Clark is another era...How can Detroit get a late Zetterberg when we can't even get a decent 1st rounder?
What would I do?
1. Overhaul scouting
2. Trade Kaberle for a 1st and a prospect
3. Get rid of Finger
4. Fire Wilson and hire...fuck...a mannequin for all I care (We'll take Julian!!!!)
5. Make the Marlies stronger. Could definitely learn something from Pittsburgh and Montreal here. Toss Kadri in there and make it a culture of winning there as well.
6. Work HEAVILY with Chicago to give them some cap space whilst procuring some of their better talent (such a deep team except for goaltending).
7. Give Burke more time.
Wat?! lulz?! Burke!?!??! He was executive of the year awhile ago. He brought the final pieces to a strong Anaheim team AND drafted Bobby Ryan. He and Nonis made Vancouver the team that they are today (Sedins, Grabner, Kesler, Bourdon, Schneider, Luongo, Vigneault). His hiring of Allaire has made Toronto a hotspot for goalies. He's wiping the slate clean from a miserable miserable JFJ. He has tons of money to work with and NO no trade clauses aside from Kaberle. He picked a team that won Silver at the Olympics. He's shown he can make a team, but he's gotta work with what he has right now. Speaking of which, working with team USA also put him in touch with a LOT of good young American talent, which he could use down the road for our benefit.
