Welcome aboard the Leafs express.

Let our ranks build up now while we're down. NHL-gaf will remember who it was who stuck with the Leafs during these sad years.

As per @sgorten, Dale Tallon is the new GM of the Fla Panthers. GM Randy Sexton, whose contract expires end of June, let go.
Good thing the Panthers don't have any RFAs worth sending qualifying offers to this year.

I'm constantly working on the bandwagon, filling up the tank, putting a spoiler on the back, getting some new rims..eventually it'll fill up.

He did a pretty good job outside of this big fuckup. Hopefully he liked Huet enough to bring him to Florida. :D

Their new GM would have to be Mike Milbury to do that with Markstrom joining the team in the next year or two. Maybe the Islanders will take him, they need someone to replace Biron if they want to keep up their three headed monster of a goaltending tandem.

Someone will be stupid enough to take him. Maybe the Canucks will want to replace Lolongo after his latest collapse. ;)

Welcome brother! GO LEAFS!
:lol
Well, I did get my Kessel jersey, but I'm also getting a Toews Canada jersey too.

Islanders...man...talk about shitty contracts...Yashin, DiPietro, MILBURY

If they don't get out of these contracts, it's going to stunt their growth.

Huet would be of more use to the Canucks as a hypothetial acquisition if he dressed as a defenseman. Luongo will
hopefully
get us a Cup before his contract is up
provided we don't face the Hawks again and again.

It appears Anton Volchenkov's days with the Ottawa Senators are numbered.

According to the Ottawa Sun, the Senators defenceman has put his house up for sale amid speculation he may sign as an unrestricted free agent with the Washington Capitals this summer.

The report indicates the Capitals are set to offer Volchenkov a contract in the neighbourhood of $5 million per season with the bonus being the chance to play with countrymen Alex Ovechkin and Alexander Semin and a solid chance to win a Stanley Cup.

Although the Senators would like to retain Volchenkov's services, the financial reality is that he may be too expensive on the free agent market.

''I'd like to re-sign him, but the dollars don't work at the present asking price,” Senators GM Bryan Murray told the Ottawa Sun on Saturday.

The stay-at-home defenceman made $3.2 million this season, scoring four goals and adding 10 assists in 64 games anchoring the Ottawa defence.

Senators defenceman Andy Sutton is also slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

LOL at offering a stay at home defenceman with no skating or any offensive abilities $5 million, I love him as a player, he has a lot of heart but he is not worth that much, he got exposed hard for his inability to skate or move the puck in the series with the Pens and in the Olympics.

Hate to see him go, but I would hate it more if he was offered that contract and stayed.

Damn, Volchy is one of my favorites. Not worth it for 5 mil but his absence will be felt. Too bad. Fucking hate teams taking away sens in the past decade and Muckler being a complete dumb fuck (Havlat)

How much space will the Caps have after signing him?

If they're close to the cap they may need to move some salary, make the call double B. We can bury a contract or two for some delicious prospects and youngsters. :D

Caps are fine. Theo's $4M comes off the books this summer. Fehr and Fleischmann are RFAs. I say they sign and keep Fehr while they trade Fleischmann. Semin is UFA after next season and his $6M comes off the books.

Wow...Philly...a wolf in sheep's clothing!?

Of all the teams in the playoffs this season, Philly was definitely the one that had the best chance to upset.

On paper, they're incredible! Briere, Carter, Richards, Pronger, Gagne, etc etc etc.

Looks like they've solved their little internal discontent for now.

However, they're going to be in tough with the Blackhawks who have got to be the heavily favoured team at this point. If Philly can play a strong physical game and Carter catches on fire, they can win. If the Blackhawks can get their skill game going and exploit the slower D and suspect Leighton, they win.

Montreal fans shouldn't fret too much. Aside from Gomez's shitty contract, you guys have a ton of prospects, picks, and decent cap space. Expect to lose Price, but considering he's an RFA and teams are desperate for no. 1s, I wouldn't be surprised to see something good come of it. I think Plekanec should try to be signed as well, but if there's something missing this season, it was star power and leadership. Maybe they can make something happen to get Marleau?

San Jose...my god...another victim of the Blackhawks train...
Maybe it's time for a change in net? Pavelski showed he's capable in a no. 2 role and can step it up, but Thornton once again did the disappearing act.

He wanted to be a GM and wasn't going to get that chance in Detroit, what's he to do? Look at it this way, he can get his feet wet in Tampa a few years and then come back to Detroit when you need him.
yeah, it's not a huge surprise. holland wasn't going anywhere.

He'll be back in Detroit at some point. Bobby Clarke GM'd in Minnesota before going back to Philly, Bob Gainey in Dallas before Montreal...they all go back to their first loves.

Winter Classic Pit v Wsh @ Heinz Field

Montreal Canadiens will travel to Calgary sometime in February to face the Flames at McMahon Stadium.

Again with the Habs? You think they could switch it up a bit? The Leafs had a great idea of playing a game at BMO field with a more intimate experience but I guess they didn't go for that.

In a move that seems to have been orchestrated by the calculating mind of general manager Brian Burke, the Leafs asked both players at this week’s draft combine if they would consider holding a news conference to announce their retirement. That way, Seguin and Hall might still be available when Toronto picks 62nd overall, near the top of the third round.

It's a dirty move on Burke's part but it shows he's committed to make his team better.

What's your take on this Manics?

Hey pringles or SantaC is this guy any good?

The Pittsburgh Penguins agreed to terms with Mattias Modig to a two-year entry level contract after acquiring the goaltender from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a 2010 sixth-round draft pick, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Came in to post this, but as always you're on top of things.

If it's really true, fucking WOOOOOO. Hope he takes somewhat of a discount, but wouldn't be upset if it's around 7 mil.

He was really good last season in the SEL but struggled this season. He's young, got some potential, he could go either way.

Nah, he is a big guy that can be good on his hot days, but his technique is not near as good as it would have to bee for him to be an consistent goalie. Earlier this summer he went down in salary signed with an organisation with the best goalie coach in Europe(If not in the world). I think that staying could have helped him becoming an good SEL goalie in some time, but he is nowhere ready to become an NHL goalie. His skating is at best average for a guy in his age and his positioning is laughable.

Oilers sign Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson to a 3 year entry level contract. I think he'll actually make the club this season. I don't see Linus Omark doing the same.

If Robert Nilsson can make the team, Omark should have no trouble doing so.
