so barrage, you up for making an avatar bet? i don't want to do a banning bet since i'll still want to talk about the playoffs even if the canucks get eliminated in any round, but what say you to loser of the van/dal series has to use an avatar made by the winner for the rest of the playoffs (and has to continue posting in this thread)?

Agreed, only the winner doesn't have to make the avatar( because A) my Photoshop sucks, and B) I want to leave room open for any vengeful Leafs or Flames if they have good ideas :lol

Wednesday. It begins. No more Leafs or Habs bullshit. Just actual competent Hockey teams. I won't be at a computer for games 2 or 3, so i'll just have to comment on the massacre in B.C. on Wednesday, and the sweeping of the canuck refuge in game 4.

This should be fun.

Haha, awesome! I thought May16 had taken it from me.

I also rose to shared 1st spot in the gaf yahoo league last night, with Dubie giving me the extra win to tie SA-X in that category. Quite the fairytale finish for me.. I bet they'll correct some stat and I'll still lose out :lol :lol

You forgot Lou making himself coach right before the playoffs for the 17th time. :lol

I'm torn, happy for Nolan and an Isles team that really earned it, but sad that the Leafs won't get a 4 game ass raping by the Sabres. Because that series would have been *awesome*. :lol

I'm sure the Wings four game sodomization of the Flames will more than make up for it...

*Eh, who am I kidding...Detroit will probably choke it up like the Isles in the third period*

For those wondering about TSN's coverage, one of their channels is an alternate digital feed (think ESPN2). I'm not sure which channel is getting which series, but I'm sure a quick trip to TSN's site will clear that up for you.

Speaking of TSN...who's the new black haired hottie?

Sportsnet was just commenting on how "Dallas won the season series against the Canucks 2-1-1"

So, what are your 'will try my best not to miss' series?

I'm thinking...

Vancouver/Dallas: cuz im hot for turco

Ottawa/Pittsburgh: I like both teams - I'm really not sure who I'll end up cheering for. It should be a great series.

Nashville/San Jose: This could end up being the most (objectively speaking) exciting series, period.

The rest is all good, but stuff I could miss. I think every match-up in the West is pretty damn tantalizing. The East has a few soft teams, but you never know who could develop into a contender. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple sweeps, though. Tampa, for instance, is going to get spanked. They were just in a very bad division.

If Calgary hadn't gotten the last playoff spot, would you have ever shown your face? ;)

Nice to see you, though.

series that i can't wait to see:

vancouver/dallas - (canucks duh)

pittsburgh/ottawa - GWAR OFFENSE

nashville/san jose - GWAR OFFENSE SMASH

i have my predictions for the first round typed up, but i'll wait for bish to make the playoff thread before i post them

honorable mentions to detroit/calgary for the potential comedy factor, minny/anaheim for the watching a great white fight a hammerhead oh god i don't want to swim in the same water as either of them factor, new york/atlanta + new jersey/tampa bay for the **** the southeast division factor and buffalo/new york for the underdog vs explosive offense factor (plus i love buffalo home games)

i have a feeling anaheim/minnesota could be the most boring UNLESS boogard (and other wild?) show up physically and the series gets dirty. also new jersey is boring and the lightning are overrated, plus i don't like atlanta.

Last night successfully washed away the bad aftertaste from the previous night. Thank you, NYI, and enjoy your final 4 games of the season!

bwahahahahaha, oh man do I love the Isles right now, and I can't wait to hear Cherry's comments. I wouldn't be surprised if he claimed NJ threw the game

Raycroft is content!

Andrew Raycroft is not about to let his critics run him out of town.

"Without a doubt, there is no way I could have played here three or four years ago," Raycroft said last night. "I was too worried about what people thought about me. But I've developed a thick skin and realize you can't please everyone.

"You may hear some things, but all in all, there is not a better place to play than Toronto. It's special. The fans are amazing. They expect a lot but, at the same time, they'll come up to you at dinner and wish you the best."

Tough times aside, Raycroft tied Ed Belfour's single-season franchise record for wins.

"If you had told me before the season I would have 37 victories in 72 games, I would have taken it to the bank," said Raycroft, who had just eight wins with the Boston Bruins last season. "It was an up and down year for myself and the team, but we showed a lot of character.

"It has been a wild 48 hours. When Jersey scored in the last seconds, I thought it was in the cards for us. But now that we didn't make the playoffs, there will be finger-pointing out there. Whatever the case, I thought it was important to establish myself this season. And I feel I did that."

"I was bouncing out of my chair and screaming when the Devils tied it up in the final few seconds," a dejected Sundin said last night. "I really thought Jersey was going to pull it off because they are so good playing four-on-four (in overtime) and in shootouts."

Bryan McCabe can deliver on the power play but remains as erratic and unpredictable a defender as any 22-year-old in the league, and he will turn 32 in June.

Which brings us to goalie Andrew Raycroft.

So often in the past the Leafs have tried to artificially designate their stars by trading away significant assets to get them or by agreeing to large contracts.

Similarly, with Raycroft, the Leafs dealt away a top prospect to acquire him and then tried to convince the hockey world that he was a bona fide NHL starter capable of playing 70 games or more.

Goaltending stats told the truth all year, that Raycroft was among the least efficient of NHL starting goalies, but only by yanking him midway through the 82nd game of the year against Montreal did Maurice finally acknowledge what the rest of the hockey world had long realized.

The Leafs missed the playoffs for a number of reasons. But mediocre goaltending was clearly No.1 on that list.

If Ferguson isn't willing to acknowledge that the Leafs need to seriously upgrade at the most important position in the sport, then he should be fired.

Defence/goaltending, the area Ferguson thought he addressed last year with big-ticket trades and signings. Yet the Leafs' 269 goals-against was seventh worst in the league.

"That's an area we're going to continue to address," said Ferguson.

They know some of their teammates won't be back, but Wellwood hopes the architect of the team – Ferguson – will return.

"I don't think he's going to go anywhere," said Wellwood. "He's done a great job. He put a great team together. We played excellent at times and I think if we would have got into the playoffs, we would have been a tough team to beat."

:lol

The 41-year-old goaltender from Carman, Man., refused and walked towards the officer "in a fighting stance" and pushed him, a Miami Beach police report said.

Awesome, Eddie, you're the best.

He needs a reality show set in south beach where he gets tanked and starts fights with the locals

"Get your hands off me! You know who I am? I'm the...I'm...I'm the...I'm the ****in' EAGLE, baby! Gonna fly on out of here!" *Belfour starts flapping his arms and running around as if to fly away from the police*

Roberts: Ya ready for this, kid?
Sid: Plan "draw Ottawa's attention and pass the puck to any open man" is in full effect.

I just played 4 1-game playoff rounds with the Pens in NHL2k5. Pens and Sharks in the final, with Pens winning the Cup on home ice! Of course, the only players in NHL2k5 who are still on the Pens today are Ryan Malone, Marc-Andre Fleury and Josef Melichar, but who knows? Haha. I was playing with the likes of Lemieux, Fata, Abid, Pirjeta, Jackman, Tarnstrom, Kraft, Koltsov, and Dan freaking Focht.

Shhhhhhhhhhhh. I'm just excited is all. I realize the Pens have a huge test in front of them, but I do believe they at least have a shot here. Their 3-1 record against Ottawa in the regular season attests to this. Sure, the playoffs are a whole new ballgame, but...but...Pens can do this!
