Oh, Mike got banned for posting furrie dickgirl porn. We'll see him back around 2007 - or roughly three years before the Oilers get another sniff at the playoffs.

:lol

I like Jim Hughson...been a fan of his since he was back at TSN. It's too bad he has close ties to the Canucks, but nobody's perfect.

As for why Chris Cuthbert got released, apparantely he and CBC Sports director Nancy Lee had a lot of differences over the last few years.

On a related note, apparantely Don Cherry's Coach's Corner won't have the 7 second delay after all. Sounds like a mistake to me, but with a ton of CBC employees looking to walk off the job in a couple months, I guess they wouldn't have anyone to implement the delay anyhow. :lol

the players will soon realise that they aren't going to get paid the huge bucks anymore

you see niedermeyer? i read in the toronto star today he's looking for a $7 mil/yr contract.

Yeah, right. The only teams at this point that are willing to pay that much are the smaller market teams. So it basically ends up being this: You either play for riches or you play for glory.

SOURCES FROM WFAN IN NY HAVE LEARNED MIKE PECA WILL BE BOUGHT OUT.

Hmmm, this would be cool if true. C'mon Mike, you live in Buffalo, you're married to a Buffalo girl, find it in your heart to bury the hatchet and come on back! It was all Rigas who screwed you, he's gone now! Somehow I don't think he'll ever forgive the Sabres though.

Apparently its not true =P

The only people commentating on the Canucks are people that follow the Oilers or Habs or whatever. Strange!

Where's Mike? I think I saw that he was banned, but what for? I miss the guy.

I'm an Oilers fan, and I don't comment on the 'Nucks at all. They don't concern me, I don't feel they are a threat to anybody in the Western Conference, with or without Markus "I'll go hard with 5 seconds left" Naslund.

We have to start against the Devils? Dammit. One of my most hated teams in the entire NHL. Well, it's a good test to see how the new-look Penguins will do this season.

The new Pens should kick a ton of ass. I just hope they don't go too spend happy on more vets with their new lease on life. A few here and there are nice, but they were also developing some nice, young talent. Can't forget the youth foundation.

Man, it's like a total 180 for them. The dark ages of a more than half empty, aging arena are over. Hopefully this gets a new arena as a top priority for the Burgh. It's pretty weak when Wilkes-Barre gives you a completely better view and atmosphere for watching a game than the big boys do.

The Leafs not playing the Wings and Hawks at all is baffling in one sense, though not new...but on the other I know they've always scheduled the Leafs to do that Western Canada swing, since it's the only time the Alberta buildings sell out. :lol Seriously though, I imagine that'll be the one analomy in the schedule that goes on for years. Otherwise the interconference games will get cycled evenly with the other clubs.

Here's the link for the full schedule, which includes a box to check the scheds for the individual teams.

I just looked through the schedule and the Leafs play 19 back-to-back nights. :(

Crosby can and will do better than that. Funny, though, that he literally has the devil already on his left shoulder. "Tell Pittsburgh to fuck off and sign with Montreal," she says.

No one asked you, buddy, sorry!

Hughson doing the games for CBC is better then I ever hoped, now someone just needs to take out Millen. Heck I'd rather they bring Peplinski back then listen to Millen.

God damn those puck bunnies...

Awhile ago I actually ran across a msg board where puckbunnies would go and talk about if certain junior players cheated.. and how they were in bed... and discussed all the dirty hockey sluts across canada. It was quite disturbing.

Czech winger Jaromir Jagr is weighing his options for next season after the NHL's new labor agreement limited his earning potential with the New York Rangers. A strong critic of the deal--under which no player can earn more than 20 percent of the $39 million salary cap set for each of the NHL's 30 teams--Jagr is considering playing in Russia instead.
--Chicago Tribune
:lol If there's one guy who WILL play anywhere just to make a few hundred grand more, it's Jagr. What will the Rangers do without his grit, determination and steady leadership??

This new schedule format is bullshit. I'd rather see 2 game series if it means playing all teams.
The only ways I could see that happening was if it was like this, 8 games against each within their own division (for 32 games) and then 2 games each against the other 25 teams in the NHL (for another 50 games).

EDIT: The only problem with that is the way playoff spots are handed out right now. I think for it to work it would have to change to the 1-6 seeds being awarded to the 1st and 2nd place team from each division with 7-8 being 2 wild-card teams.

I was gonna mention that about McCarty. I can understand Hatcher and Whitney, and while I like both players, Hatcher did play well when he did...

Surprised no one called me out on this typo. It's supposed to be "DIDN'T play well when he did...". :P

Whoa, hating the Flames is one thing, but anyone who thinks the Canucks/Flames was anything other than one of the most exciting 7 game series in decades is just crazy. Now I know not to bother arguing with you! :lol *fond memories of game 6, when a 4-0 Canucks lead was almost wasted single-handedly when bishoptl angered Hockey Jesus with his blasphemous christmas-tree photoshop*

The difference between you and "The Internet" is that he watched hockey, while you watch the scoreboard. :D

There was plenty of drama during last year's playoffs. But the actual hockey itself wasn't that exciting. Of course, when the drama and tension get high (CGY/VAN series for example) each potential chance is certainly exciting, but seriously, I encourage you to pick up the NHL Network and watch the playoffs from 7-15 years ago, and you'll see that the pace, grittiness, emotion, drama, etc. were all on 5th gear. Not just the drama.

I hope you had fun though, Calgary did the unthinkable and it must have been a great ride for it's fans in other parts of Canada (because the ones in Calgary don't know hockey). It's just that apart from some drama...it was hard to watch.

I can honestly say that while I was stuck at the Uni, I kept track of some of the games over NHL.com and I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. All I needed was the score as the pace of the games were too boring to watch. Plus, with the Flames, it was just frustrating to watch them get away with so much obstruction and clutching and grabbing.

Wings open to the Blues? Who thought of that? All other matchups make sense...I guess they had to do this. I was hoping a matchup against Chicago so that the league leaders would be all Wings after the first day of games. :)

As a Canucks fan, it hurt watching the team lose to the Flames. But at the time, being an actual red mile resident and holder of two tickets to the game six western conference final (elimination of the sharks), it was hard not to forgive just a little bit.

Now I have to find something to like about the Blackhawks... :(

I have no idea what the hell you're talking about, but I imagine it pisses me off. :lol

But seriously, complaining that the Flames were boring and then holding them up against random playoff series from the days of yore is brutally unfair. Sure, Flames/Canucks wasn't as aesthetically pleasing as something from the late 80s but nothing in the last 10 years is either. :)

And I'd had the NHL Network for years, only cancelling it 4 months ago. But since I grew up going to games in the 80s (both here in Winnipeg and in Calgary, went to my first NHL game in Calgary in 1982 or 83, after the Flames had been around a few years) trust me when I say that there was pleeeenty of shitty hockey way back when. I went to some Jets games when they were still in the WHA but I don't remember anything from then.

Yet another great NHL news :D This lockout was sooooooo worth it.

Sorry if im repeating myself but those idiotic "fan" who will quit because of a year off are the embodiment of irony and stupidity

Brendan Shanahan decided to stay with the Detroit Red Wings, exercising an option Thursday on the final year of his contract.

Shanahan will make about $2.3 million US during the upcoming season as the league resumes play after a lockout wiped out the previous year. The 36-year-old forward is among active leaders with 558 career goals and 1,151 points.

I am very interested where Naslund and Forsberg are ending up. Some dude on the leafs forum said they expect Leafs to sign: Forsberg, Naslund, Lindros, foote etc :lol :lol

On the other hand, the canucks forum isn't better. They are saying their first line will be Naslund, Forsberg and Bertuzzi :lol

And the Rangers...don't get me started.

With Niedermeyer and Jovo on our top D-line! :P

I swear, people don't know how to add.
It's not that they can't add, they're all going to sign for the league minimum. :lol

I am still not convinced that any of this talent being bought out will go to small market teams...I see most just switching big markets and signing 1year deals like kariya & Selanne did with colorado.

It would be hilarious if we ended up with a few really talent laden teams next year after all this huff over ceating a more even playing feild and the small market team still left out in the cold for the most part :lol

whoa

the leafs reduced ticket prices

Not that it matters......this just means the companies will spend less money buying them. We'll still need to overpay with scalpers for most tickets :(

Ducks re-sign Sandis Ozolinsh
7/29/2005 1:23:41 PM

OTTAWA (CP) - The Anaheim Mighty Ducks re-signed defenceman Sandis Ozolinsh to a two-year deal Friday, retaining the services of the offensive blue-liner before he was to hit the unrestricted free-agent market Monday.

''We're switching our style in Anaheim,'' GM Brian Burke said. ''We've been a trap team the last couple of years but my teams don't trap. We need a guy who can move the puck by either passing it or skating with it and he fits that profile.''

The Latvian was to earn $5.5 million US during the wiped-out 2004-05 season but it's believed he signed for half that amount, another example of the new era in the NHL.

Ozolinsh, who turns 33 next week, has 525 career points (158-367) in 779 regular-season games. He was limited to 16 points (5-11) in 36 games in an injury-plagued 2003-04 season.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=131821

According to a report in the Toronto Star, the Leafs do not intend to buy out the veteran on Friday, instead believing that Nolan's knee injury is not hockey-related, thus negating Nolan's right to exercise a contract option for 2005-2006. So, rather than buy him out at two-thirds of his salary ($3.8-million), the Leafs believe they don't owe Nolan anything.

They are qualifying him and trading him.

Why would anyone trade for him at that price? It was bad enough having to try and sign him for $7 million, now St. Louis is hoping to get back someone good and/or a package of draft picks? I hope they get screwed.

What if noone tries to acquire Pronger and the Blues are left holding salaries in excess of $39 million total -- what happens in this case?

They will find a buyer for Pronger, come on. Most likely a bottom team who has a ton of cap space available. There's even a rumor of him going to Anaheim for the 2nd pick.

I'm not worried about St-Louis having to find a buyer for Pronger, he's a top NHL defenseman, him and Nierdermeyer are probably the best 2 right now.

Eklund (unreliable source, mind you), claims that Adrian Aucoin will be an Hab and he pegs the chances at 75%.

Also says that Paul Kariya is down to a return to California or joining the Habs. He says it's a 55% chance for San Jose and a 45% chance for Montreal.

Other Habs rumor he mentions is Adam Foote, who he says, is looking at Philadephia, Montreal and Toronto.

2 likely candidates to replace Brisebois would be Aucoin or Foote.

I dont know who in their right mind would spend 7.whatever on Pronger. Hes a great dman. Best in the game imo. I still aint paying him 7 million when I could probably get Gonchar and Foote for that. I'd put his trade value at a late round draft pick. That contract is way too much of a liability. I wouldnt have even qualified him.
I dont think Nieds is getting 7 either.
