I agree, move the Stars back to Minnesota hehe.

I also agree, but move the Coyotes back to Winnipeg and then I might actually care about the NHL again.

I was rather hoping that the NHL would have collapsed, but alas...

Aw well... it will happen eventually...

(Yes, I am bitter.)

Last year's playoffs were also entertaining, but probably more for the fact that the games were dramatic. I still and will always hate playoff refereeing. Letting the action go starts off well, but it always ends up in blatant and disgusting rule-breaking in the latter stages of tight games.

I didn't really enjoy last year's playoffs aside fromt he Philly/Tampa series.

The worst series was the Sharks/Flames snooze-fest. Actually, all of the Flames playoff games were horrible to watch, but the people here in Calgary were too drunk to notice.

You know what we need? So that the Canucks and Leaf fans stop bickering (I like the canucks dammit), Sens fans.

The problem is there's only 3 or 4 real Sens fans out there and I don't think any are part of this board. Ottawa was torn for years between Leaf fans and Hab fans so there's no true Sens fans out there (except the 3 or 4)

I'm pretty sure the Oilers season starts against the Avs. Dunno if thats the home opener or not.

Whoa, hating the Flames is one thing, but anyone who thinks the Canucks/Flames was anything other than one of the most exciting 7 game series in decades is just crazy. Now I know not to bother arguing with you! :lol *fond memories of game 6, when a 4-0 Canucks lead was almost wasted single-handedly when bishoptl angered Hockey Jesus with his blasphemous christmas-tree photoshop*

The Sharks series was pretty dull, but the Wings was good too. Other than the game 5 blowout (which was still hilarious) the Leafs and Flyers was a pretty entertaining series too.

Senators exercise Hasek's option

7/27/2005 9:19:35 AM

OTTAWA (CP) - As expected, the Ottawa Senators are hanging on to Dominik Hasek.

General manager John Muckler announced Wednesday that the NHL team has exercised its one-year option on the 40-year-old goaltender. Hasek is due to make $2.28 million US this season.

Hasek did not play during the lockout, other than skating with the Binghamton Senators, Ottawa's AHL farm team, during training camp.

Ottawa signed the six-time Vezina Trophy winner in July 2004.
Good news Leaf fans! Sens to waste entire year with washed up goalie! :lol I still expect Hasek to be injured or riding pine by the start of the playoffs though.

SOURCES FROM WFAN IN NY HAVE LEARNED MIKE PECA WILL BE BOUGHT OUT.

The other day Mad Mike said no one would be bought out.

hmmmm

We have to start against the Devils? Dammit. One of my most hated teams in the entire NHL. Well, it's a good test to see how the new-look Penguins will do this season.

That's a crazy bad move....but I won't attack it too much, because as we've gone over, there's no one to defend the Sens.

not sure if you guys noticed, but the teams schedule against interdivision 8 times!

inter-conference 4 times

and then 10 out of 15 teams of the opposing conference only once

For example toronto maple leafs don't play detroit, nashville, chicago, st. louis or columbus (anyone from central west division) AT ALL next season

Yeah that really pissed me off. I've only been able to see Toronto play the Jackets once! Oh well, there's always next season....

Me neither. Edmonton should just forfeit the 6 points now and save us all some time. :)

Without Naslund I expect the Canucks to have about 6 points total by March.

Without Naslund? That's like, the 5th time you've said that without anything to back it up. A true Edmontonian, through and through.

As much as I'm one of the only (the only?) Hasek fans on this board, there can be no arguing he's at least three years past his prime. He should have retired when the lockout happened, if not before.

Well he wants to play with Forsberg... and that sure as hell aint going to be in Vancouver. NO ROOM.

Naslund is waiting for Vancouver's offer but I highly doubt he'll be back with them. He will probably do what Kariya and Selanne did 2 years ago with the Avs with Naslund so they can play together.

The great part is, when Hasek finally realizes it he'll just quit on the team like he's done in the past.

It'll go something like "ohhh my groin, big pain, oww must seet out to let heal"

Honestly, Hasek at 50 couldn't be any worse then Lalime in crunch time. That game 7 debacle was one of the great playoff meltdowns in recent memory. And I like the guy too (like most of those Sens players actually, it's the dumb shit fans that I detest), so I really felt bad for him. Which isn't to say I didn't laugh out loud about it. :lol

The Leafs not playing the Wings and Hawks at all is baffling in one sense, though not new...but on the other I know they've always scheduled the Leafs to do that Western Canada swing, since it's the only time the Alberta buildings sell out. :lol Seriously though, I imagine that'll be the one analomy in the schedule that goes on for years. Otherwise the interconference games will get cycled evenly with the other clubs.

Here's the link for the full schedule, which includes a box to check the scheds for the individual teams.

:lol Yeah, that'll probably be exactly how it goes. Except you forgot the part where he jets off to the Czech Republic in January for a few months to "rehab" at some special clinic (read: resort). Then the sens move on and fix their goalie problem, Prusek plays well so Hasek feels unloved and starts floating rumours about being 100% ready for the playoffs.

I don't know any Sens fans (I do know several mild enthusiasts of the team) but I'd like to think that none of them are happy about Hasek. Sure, the Ottawa media is dumb as a bag of pucks and practically handcuffed Lalime the whole season but I sure hope they realize Hasek is a mind-boggling mistake. God knows I was against it from the start. :lol

I understand you guys need something to keep yourselves occupied while nearly every other team (including Nashville) is in the playoffs, but this fantasy league conjecture is getting out of hand.

The only people commentating on the Canucks are people that follow the Oilers or Habs or whatever. Strange!

Where's Mike? I think I saw that he was banned, but what for? I miss the guy.

Montreal Canadiens will sign Forsberg, Naslund, Niedermayer and trade Kostitsin and a bag of pucks for Sidney Crosby, MARK MY WORDS

"Hockey Night in Canada has found a new voice. Jim Hughson is expected to be announced today as the show's new play-by-play broadcaster for the Western game of the Saturday night doubleheaders."

what do you all think of this choice? I don't mind the guy, but I still don't understand why Chris Cuthbert was let go.

This is great news.... so long as he remains with Sportsnet Pacific and does Canucks games. Hughson is only second to Cuthbert.

I'll translate the key notes:

"Naslund confirmed in a telephone interview from his home in Ornskoldsvik that him and Forsberg could offer their services together for the same team"

"Who wouldn't want to play with Peter", asked to a vancouver sun journalist. "We will see if it's possible to offer something. I mean, you can ask any wing players in the NHL if they'd like to play with him."

Naslund is expecting to receive an offer from the Vancouver Canucks' GM, Dave Nonis to whom he has spoken to briefly this past weekend. "Of course it's flattering to know that the Canucks are holding on to me, said whom just turned 32 last sathurday. I will wait and check out their offer. I can't do more than that."

Uh
Naslund is unrestricted. He MAY be on his way out. Did you not read what Malakhov posted?

Well it can go both ways, I'd say there's more chances he leaves than stay however from the sounds of the interview.

Ah, I cannot wait to roast New Jersey the first game of the season. With it being the first game, there should be absolutely no clutching and grabbing, which is a style both teams have used recently (freaking New Jersey invented it). The Pens clearly have bigger guns on offense, so it should be fun game to watch. 2 months can't come soon enough!

I want in on a yahoo fantasy hockey league in here if you guys need another player...

Sheeit - swinging on the big boy's nuts are all they have. Keep talking smack dem, it just let me know who's front and center in your mind (as the Canucks should be). :D

As for Naslund's quote re: Forsberg - what exactly did you expect him to say?

naslund2_b.jpg

"Play with Forsberg? Fuck no, I never want to play on a line with that fragile bastard again. Every time I turn around, he's moaning 'MY SHOULDER, MY SHOULDER' like Alonzo Mourning and his kidney, then whining to his dad for more ice time. To hell with him!"

Oh, Mike got banned for posting furrie dickgirl porn. We'll see him back around 2007 - or roughly three years before the Oilers get another sniff at the playoffs.

BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins are making a concerted effort to retain the core of their team.

The Bruins on Tuesday made contract offers to five of their free agents, including captain Joe Thornton and defenseman Sergei Gonchar.

Also receiving offers were restricted free agent left wings Sergei Samsonov and P.J. Axelsson and right wing Martin Lapointe, who is unrestricted. Teams exclusively can negotiate with their free agents through July 31.

"These players have made valuable contributions to our team," Bruins general manager Mike O'Connell said. "We hope these offers make clear to them how much we want them to be a part of building a championship team in Boston."

A restricted free agent, Thornton was offered a five-year contract. The 26-year-old made $5.5 million in 2003-04 and was awarded a one-year, $6.75 million deal after winning his arbitration case last summer. An All-Star each of the last three seasons, Thornton was selected first overall by the Bruins in 1997. He was named team captain prior to the 2002-03 season, a campaign in which he collected a career-high 101 points.

Gonchar, who is an unrestricted free agent, was given a four-year offer. Acquired from Washington in March 2004, the Russian blue-liner also won an arbitration case last summer, receiving a one-year, $5.5 million contract after making $3.65 million in 2003-04.

The 14th overall pick by the Capitals in 1992, Gonchar recorded a career-high 67 points in 2002-03, one season after netting 26 goals, also a career best. The 31-year-old has appeared in three All-Star Games.

Samsonov, Axelsson and Lapointe each received three-year contract offers.

I still think the Mike Works banning was a, er, work. I never saw the thread in question and have some doubts as to the story itself!

*keeps eye out for suspicious new pro-Canuck posters with surprising mod-juice*

Thornton camp not thrilled with offer

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=131601
''Joe Thornton is one of the very best hockey players in the world,'' his agent J.P. Barry of IMG said Wednesday from Calgary. ''He is an elite franchise player and if he accepts his qualifying offer, he will be an unrestricted free agent next summer at only 26 years old. This is a very unique situation. The multi-year offer Boston has made is actually less than Joe's qualifying offer. It makes you wonder if they truly understand what kind of hockey player they have with Joe.

''We'll see where this is going very soon. I'll speak with Joe and we will be in contact with Boston to discuss this further.''
