So, is the GAF yahoo hockey league going to be head to head? If so, who wants to start up a different points one? My only experience with head to head was in a football league once and I thought it sucked - I didn't know jackshit and I finished 2nd or 3rd through complete luck. I much prefer to play against everyone every night.

I'll start a points one as well. We can have two. I was originally going to create a league so I'm still in the mood. I think we can have two going. Give me until tonight, but I'll create it and get people in.

Haven't done a fantasy league before but from reading the rules so far it does seem like Rotisserie style is the way to go. Head to Head should still be fun though.

Btw does drafting have to be so far away? (mid september)

I'd perfer sooner if possible.

Yep...I'll have it up by 10 tonight and people can PM me to get in (PM anytime)

Boy I can't wait for the season to start

Anyone here play or know anyone that plays competitive ball hockey in the YCBHL out of arenas like Rink, Cummer, Etobicoke etc?

they have competitive ball hockey? what?

i'd play that for the sole purpose of crushing everyone else in the league ;)

Ya. We had a playoff game tonight at 10:00pm at Rinx on Orfus Rd near Yorkdale Mall. Check out the link:

YCBHL

Yeah there are four spots left. The draft is in 11 days, so I'm not in a big rush for people, but I'll give people reading this thread one last shot to PM me.

Canucks have traded a 3rd for Steve McCarthy

Vancouver really filling out that D with Sven Butenschon and Steve McCarthy.

:lol

? I don't get it. We needed 5th and 6th d-men, and got them in cheaper than what it would have cost to keep Marek Malik and Brent Sopel. You *do* realize that we're under a cap system now, don't you?

Unless your smiley emoticon is some sort of inside golf-course humour, OilerFan. No wonder the rest of us wouldn't understand. :lol

How sweet! Callaway actually personalized them for you!

Yeah, we have a habit of fleecing other teams whose braintrusts aren't bright enough to appreciate their assets. Bye bye, Stojanov! As for McCarthy, he's young and will fill in nicely for Malik, at a much cheaper rate. With some time, effort, and a bit of study, you'll figure out how this "salary cap" system works...eventually.

But you don't have time to hit the CBA books now, you've got to hurry up and start scrubbing your balls. Tee times fill up quick in Edmonton around April, so don't delay!

:lol Oh I know how a salary cap works my friend... would you like me to share with Mr Nonis? Apparently he cant fill out a team without AHL bums.

Maybe if he asks nice KLowe will send him Cory Cross. :lol

I'd back up dem in regards to Sven Butenschon (my brother played against him a bit way back before being a half foot taller than everyone else took him on a different career path) but last night the NHL Network showed an Oiler/Jets game 4 from the mid 80's that I had managed to block out until now. Fuck the Oilers. Fuck 'em all and their fans. :|

EDIT: :lol I was talking to my dad on the phone just now and I mentioned Butenschon. He mentioned how he was taking my brother to Provincials one year when they were 13. Oakbank was the best town in A hockey for half the ages for a few years (just dominate, nobody won shit but them) and my brother was going to play them when my dad stopped at a gas station. Sven Butenschon gets out of his parents van and he was already like 6'2", about 5 inches taller than my dad and a solid 9" taller than my pipsqueak of a brother. Ray was in our minivan and he heard my dad say "holy shit!" then my dad teased Ray about hoping that guy wasn't going to the same tourney, but it was a joke because my dad assumed Sven was 15 or so. Nope, he was in fact 13 at the time, and he was only Oakbank's third best player then. :lol

Come on Bish.... No need to rub Stojanov at us pens fans... The worst trade in our history. We would have had to let Naslund walk though like all the other guys we had in the mid 90's..

You guys could have at least thrown in a bag of pucks instead, it might have been more useful

Look at the Pittsburgh roster! You guys are enjoying an embarassment of riches after those lean years in the wilderness. Alucard's appealing yet self-deprecating nature aside, it's now open season on the Pens as far as I'm concerned. :)

It's crazy when you break it down like this.
Lindros for Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, Mike Ricci, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Kerry Huffman, two 1st-round picks and $15 million.

...and it's worse than it looks:

Quebec used the 1st pick on Jocelyn Thibault, whom they packaged with Kovalenko and Rucinsky to get Patrick Roy from Montreal.

They traded Duchesne to St. Louis for a package including Ron Sutter and Garth Butcher. They traded Butcher to Toronto for Wendel Clark, who they traded to the Islanders for Claude Lemieux. They traded Sutter for Uwe Krupp.

After winning the Conn Smythe, they traded Lemieux to New Jersey for a package that included Brian Rolston and the Devils' 1st rounder. They traded Rolston and the 1st rounder in a package to Boston for Ray Bourque and Dave Andreychuk.

After Ricci helped them win a cup, they traded him to San Jose for a 1st-round pick. The Avs used the pick on Alex Tanguay.

Hextall was traded to the Islanders in a package that netted the Avs the Islanders 1st-round pick, which they used on Adam Deadmarsh. After helping them win a cup, they traded Deadmarsh for Rob Blake.

They traded Simon (with Leschyshyn) to Washington for Keith Jones and two 1st-round picks. They used the picks on Scott Parker and Shjon Podein, both of whom got rings in 2001.

So here's what they got for Lindros after six degrees of separation:

- Peter Forsberg for 10 seasons
- Patrick Roy for 8 seasons and a Conn Smythe
- Claude Lemieux for 5 seasons and a Conn Smythe
- A Cup-winning goal (Krupp)
- Bourque and Andreychuk rentals
- Mike Ricci for 6 seasons
- Adam Deadmarsh for 7 seasons
- Rob Blake entering his 5th season in Colorado
- Alex Tanguay entering his 6th season in Colorado
- 2 Stanley Cups
- $15 Million

What Philly got:

- Humiliated
- Swept
- Kim Johnsson

Yeah, it's crazy when you break it down like that, but then whoever wrote that is trying to make it as one sided as possible. No doubt it was a great deal for the Nordiques and was probably one of the most one sided trades in sports history long-term, but it pretty much ignores everything good Lindros did (and he WAS a great player for at least a few years) and exagerates the benefits to the Nords/Avs. Listing Roy as a part of the Lindros deal is pure bullshit, the Avs would very likely have traded for him regardless of whether they had Thibault or not.

They traded Simon (with Leschyshyn) to Washington for Keith Jones and two 1st-round picks. They used the picks on Scott Parker and Shjon Podein, both of whom got rings in 2001.
Hah, they say that Parker and Podein "both got rings" as if they were integral parts or something. Both guys were a big waste of a first round pick.

Agreed with Calder though, it isn't like the Flyers did absolutely nothing. And Lindros was one of the fastest players ever to get 500 points (or was that goals? Whatever), plus won a Hart Trophy while being in contention for a couple more.

Having said all that, the straight up deal was a romp-like win for the Av's...forget breaking it down to other elements.

While the Flyers may have accomplished *something* during the Lindros era, that pales in comparison to the Avalanche's success. Betcha they'd trade his Hart trophy for one of those SC wins.

Fucking christ I never knew about that breakdown. Huge respect goes to the Av franchise for all those deals.

Any yeah the Pens are now a contender, witch means their open game to Trash talk, photoshops, and general resentment.

Congrats Penguin Fans!

Too much stuff yet to be finalized to make any sort of educated guess on standings.

Podein was awesome as a role player. He played lots of minutes and was killer on d an the pk.

alot of the of the standings will be determined by which team will adjust to the new rules the fastest.

In otherwords we have to wait for which coaches crack the new system.

There is no way the Sens finish below the Leafs and no way the Habs finish above the Leafs.

My reasoning for that is im thinking hasek will be a bust, and the sens will have issues with goaltending down the line. Whether he's out do to injury or he just isnt up to par I dont think Hasek will play dominator hockey.

And the Habs will finish above the leafs because they simply have the better team.

Never mind the fact that 19 games for the leafs are back to back, thus no eagle for those games for sure, eddie will probably be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks at some point during the season, and while the leafs are playing all those game with an unproven Aubin, the habs will be rolling right along with the steady, reliable and dare I say even consistent play of Jose Theodore.

Sportsnet has learned the Senators and Hossa have agreed to a three-year deal worth $18 million.

Sens will have to dump someone...
