Official NHL CBA Conclusion thread! HOSANNAH, BITCHES

Oh shit in a bucket. Hossa is a little BITCH, and The Sens losing him and getting a player I somewhat like (except for that whole driving thing), with more upside, sucks. Shitballs.

to outline

-Hossa was a bitch
-Heatly is better
-Hossa hurt berard so it was another reason we hated him
-Heatly is Canadian and harder to boo

Yeah.......good job Sens. Well played.

I'm going to miss Maid Marian. This sucks on many levels. Now I won't want to draft Heatley in any fantasy drafts! Egads!

It's now my job, nay, obligation, to paint Heatley in a negative light. Let the sudden smear campaign begin!

I still can't like Heatley after the drunk driving incident. Sorry. Ottawa's looking better now though...if only they could get a goalie to take over for Father Time.

I'm not sure if Ottawa is getting better. It says they're giving up a defenseman too....we don't know who yet. Rumor is it's a top 4 guy (yes, an eklund rumor, but he was right). Who knows if Heatley can play the full season without murdering someone. It's a lot of risk for the Sens to take on if they're giving up two productive players.

If you take age and salary out of the equation, Heatley is better than Hossa, but not by a lot. But when you factor in Heatley's being two years younger and cheaper, he holds a lot more value in the new NHL. Atlanta's getting the better end of the deal. They won't lose that much production, if any, by swapping Heatley for Hossa. Getting a top four defenseman out of it definitely tilts the deal in their favor. Ottawa isn't a better team, but this solves their salary cap problems now and in the future.

What the fuck, drunk driving? If having one beer with a meal then driving hours later (to the point that your blood alcohol test reveals trace levels) counts as drunk driving where you live I guess... which I suppose means you live in Amish country.

Good deal for both teams, considering the extenuating cap situations. Heatley is going to explode in Ottawa, not that Hossa won't score a half zillion points playing with Kovolchuk too. Better trade for Ottawa simply because Hossa is a great talent but they already have Hossa 2.0 in Havlat so Heater's skill, size and ability to play more physically will be a big boost.

If Heater really wanted out (and it looks to be true now)... the Thrashers got a heck of a deal for him.

Good deal for both teams. Edge to Ottawa now that i see they got a 1st rounder too.

Hossa/Devries for Heatley/1st round pick

Just thinking.. Spezza and Heatley. Holy fuck. I think I may have to start hating the Sens.

If it's Hossa and Devries for Heatley and a first rounder, then I change my opinion and give Ottawa the edge. Heatley's a slightly better player but fits much better financially, and I'd take the draft pick over Devries. Hossa and Phillips for Heatley straight up, as Eklund reported, clearly would have favored Atlanta when you're talking strictly about the quality of talent. Not at all now. I don't see what's in it for Atlanta unless Heatley really wanted out of there.

It's the most... won-der-ful time... to hate the Leafs...
With the Naslund re-signing amidst Dopey's whining that his team's run by queeeeeeeefs
It's the most... won-der-ful time, ITS the most WONderful time, fuck the Leeeaffsss!

Calder,

Was that the final case with Heatley?

Was it determined that Heatley was driving recklessley?
I'm sure there's a decent summation of the story online somewhere, but going by memory it was plead to a variety of reckless driving charges, the Snyder family was incredibly understanding and forgiving and that was a factor in the serious vehicular manslaughter charges being plea-bargained. The DA mentioned the alcohol but it was such a low level they couldn't claim it was a factor in the accident but some ppl still remember it and assume Heatley was driving drunk... more likely it was two young guys driving home in a nice car and the driver was going way too fast and lost control. Heatley is of course responsible for the results of his actions, but knowing myself how I did shit exactly that dumb all the time at his age and trying to guess if I had killed a good friend doing it one day I'm unwilling to form up the lynch mob.

Just thinking.. Spezza and Heatley. Holy fuck. I think I may have to start hating the Sens.
SHHHHHHHHhhhhh.... dude you're going to ruin my yahoo team! Getting those guys in the third and fourth round was going to guarantee victory even before the trade!

Man you guys are weird. We hate the Sens because they're division rivals. You hate the Leafs because it's a cliche.

If I remember Mike enough, i'd say his hate for the leafs isnt based on cliche, rather a hate for the fans that occupy the internet.

Thanks for the story calder, I was to lazy to go searching.

Yeah, if it was just a case of kids being kids I wont hold it against him, im sure he has enough self sorrow over what happened.

Cliche? Are you fucking kidding? Let us list the reasons Canuck fans hate the Leafs:

1) they used to be in our conference before we kicked their ass out of the conference final
2) they are the self-professed "Canada's Team"
3) the majority of their fans- or at least the louder set- are the most obnoxious in the entire league
4) like the Canadiens, there's still a large subset of a Leafs following in Vancouver (and Montreal and Buffalo), which ties in to points #1 and #3

Oh this is going to be a fucking glorious NHL season, my friends. Fucking glorious.

edit: Wolf, my dislike for Leaf fans on the internet comes in third on my chart of annoying Leaf fans. Leaf fans in Vancouver is number two. Leaf fans in the CBC broadcast booth tops the chart.

Wow - that came out of nowhere.
Funny move by the Sens - to sign Hossa to a huge contract then immediately deal him. Almost as if they knew he was going to be dealt anyway...

The Sens still look great - as long as Heater gets some new teeth and a new haircut.

Why yes, yes it is.

I dunno, it's definitely a toss up between the Northeast and Pacific. Would've given the nod to the NE if Edmonton didn't go and improve themselves during the offseason.

i think you mean northeast and northwest

pacific has dallas, phoenix, san jose, anaheim and LA :P

Northwest and Northwest will definitely be the strongest two - between them, dunno.

Vancouver
Edmonton
Calgary
Colorado
Minnesota

Boston
Buffalo
Montreal
Ottawa
Toronto

There's a strong chance that eight of those teams will make the playoffs. You can guess which ones I mean, of course.

Socreges said:
Nah, I'm not that cruel. Dopey's spot on, though of the eight, I'd say Toronto will place the worst.

Thats reasonable

But it doesn't matter much, cause history has proven that low teams in the playoffs can make it all the way based on one or two hot players

Usually every summer it's the Leaf fans that are the most delusional amongst the Canadian teams but this summer I'd say that award goes to Les Hobbitants. What exactly have they done that merits them to gleefully wear rose coloured glasses? I see a team that will be life and death to even make the playoffs.

Heater signs to a three-year, $13.5 million deal ($4.5/year).

What a great deal by the Sens. They lose some offensive finesse - but frankly have a ton to spare. Heater brings the kind of gritty offense that was missing in the playoffs.
In addition to, they free up some cap space - maybe then can keep Redden and Chara for a few more years. They could've kept Hossa for one more year...then lose him to free agency, but instead get one of the biggest future stars in the game.

And now Atlanta has an overpriced Holik and Hossa =/

I dunno...Kovalev, Koivu, Dandenault, Theodore...they do have a pretty solid squad. I also think they'll make the playoffs. If any team should be worrying this year, it's the freaking Sabres.

Man, what's with the Sabres hate here. Of course the Sabres have not done anything this offseason, but they're pretty much returning the same team (except for Satan, who everyone hated anyways, and Zhitnik who will be replaced by Numminen) that finished in 9th last time. The hope is that they'll finally get consistant goaltending from Miller this year, and I'd like to say that they'll be able to make the playoffs. But how did the Habs get better? The Leafs? Ottawa is pretty much a lock to make the playoffs I think. The Bruins look good too, but who plays goal there? It's probably too early to say, but I see the Sabres duking it out with the Habs and Leafs for the final playoff spot. :lol

But how did the Habs get better?l

Well they not only kept their team from last season that gave them 7th spot, but they now have the benifit of Kovalev and Bonk for an entire season. And their 3rd and 4th lines and stronger now as well.

the sabers are on the outside looking in. The East is much more dangerous overall now and the sabers were left behind.

alot of the of the standings will be determined by which team will adjust to the new rules the fastest.

In otherwords we have to wait for which coaches crack the new system.

I agree. The changes might not have the largest impact on the league, but they could be enough to throw some teams off balance for a while.

.....

there are no words to describe that series.

No wait I got one, FUCKING PAINFULL.

Im not even a Canucks fan and I can honestly say that series after game 4 was about as painful as seeing my own habs go down to the hurricanes that same year(i think)

I think after minny took game 6 the canucks just lost all hope. Sure seeing Ruuto(i think it was him) taunt the minny bench all by himself after the game was over seemed to give you the impression that this Canuck team still had fight left to give...but man..

....Painfull.

The hell was Bertuzzi doing saying there would be no game 6!!?? Did he think that for a brief moment in time he was the MOOSE or something?

Mike or Bish, do you two have a charity or something setup were I can donate money toward the medical bills that must have piled up after all the mental trama?

Anyways, that series hurt me, hopefull the next series the nhl network shows will be a little more joyfull.
