Mike or Bish, do you two have a charity or something setup were I can donate money toward the medical bills that must have piled up after all the mental trama?
How about you just send me some money considering I was at Game 7 in the Minnesota series AND the Calgary series.

How about that.

Really? The Canucks over the Leafs? Why's that? I'm not acting like the "typical Leafs fan", I really want to know the logic behind the statement.

I might rank Vancouver over Ottawa (it all hinges on Hasek, really), but I'd definitely put Montreal ahead of Edmonton. Edmonton was a good club last year, but just that. Good. Not even good enough to make the playoffs. They've improved for sure, but I dunno. Their division is tougher than it's ever been, and I'm just not scared of their offensive potential, let alone having Ty Conklin starting.

At the moment the Leafs simply have more question marks than the Canucks do. Suspect defense. Geriatric goalie with a wonky back. Injury prone forwards that were signed. Questionable lack of depth on the wings.

1) Ottawa
2) Vancouver
3) Calgary
4) Edmonton
5) Montreal
5) Toronto

I think Hasek is a disaster, but the Sens are too good to have it affect their regular season that much. It's the playoffs where having Hasek as your #1 goalie ensures utter disaster.

I have the Habs last, but I don't think they'll suck or anything. I don't expect them to do quite as well as they did in 04, but both the Habs and Leafs will have to scrap to make the playoffs.

5) Edmonton
6) Toronto

I'm very surprised that you're surprised.

Must we compare rosters? I really don't think the Leafs' potential top line is as good as the Canucks, and there isn't much depth behind them. The situation at defense is even worse, minus McCabe, and who knows what kind of season Belfour will have after two more years passing since his last season. Though history favours Belfour, and I'll give the Leafs the edge on that alone, there's no guarantee that he'll outplay Cloutier this year.

"But Domi brought a roar from the crowd when he acknowledged that some aren't expecting much from the team this season.

"Everyone's writing us off," he said. "It's nice to be the underdog."

Shut up Tie. You can't spend the money the Leafs spend and consider yourselves underdogs.

I'm very surprised that you're surprised.

So the last time we had an NHL season the final standings for Canadian teams looked like this:

Toronto 103
Ottawa 102
Vancouver 101
Calgary 94
Montreal 93
Edmonton 89

Now everyone seems to think the Leafs have gotten so bad as to finish dead last amongst Canadian teams?

So many Leaf haters out there....so sad.

Everyone knew Heatley had an off season last year in Europe (with the eye injury to boot) and the last WC and World Cup he was ordinary at best. I was assuming it was the injury mainly but since the trade there are more reports around about Heatley not looking good at all during the recent Oly camp too. I still think he'll rebound nicely and become an elite player, but it's not quite the sure thing I was expecting - playing like crap in Europe for most of a year doesn't get noticed here in NA, but that combined with the tourneys and minicamp is a bit disturbing.

EDIT: whew, the article in the Calgary Sun was saying how the rumour mill had Heatley going to Vancouver for Bertuzzi. That could have been a Pronger-to-Edmonton level disaster! :D

Yeah, they're going to be trading someone (or more likely a couple of guys) but who? They'd have to trade either one star or 2 guys making around 2-3 million, guys like Friesen and Gomez. Those guys would have a fair bit of trade value, and I assume the Devils would be looking to get either picks or good rookies/quality veterans making near the minimum.

Wow, hard not to feel sorry for the Thrashers now. First they tinker with chemistry, now their young #1 goaltender is basically forced to retire. :\ Sounds like Lehtonen is ready to step up, but he'll have to right off the bat if the team intends to make the playoffs.

Yeah, heard about the knee injury this morning. Atlanta's going from strength to strength these days. :|

And excuse me?
People carrying beers lined up patiently for autographs — even from questionable luminaries like Peter Ing, Jeff Jackson and Stew Gavin.
Who the hell are these people? Toronto celebrities? :lol

Whoa, the Nurminen news totally slipped by me.
Thrashers' Nurminen all set to retire

8/24/2005 10:38:35 AM

On a day that the Atlanta Thrashers savoured the acquistion of All-Star forward Marian Hossa, the team also received some bad news that goaltender Pasi Nurminen has suffered a possible career-ending knee injury.

Thrashers General Manager Don Waddell said Tuesday that Nurminen suffered the injury while working out to get ready for the coming season.

Nurminen signed a two-year, $2-million US contract with the team two weeks ago.

"He suffered a very serious knee injury to the extent that it appears he's going to retire," Waddell told reporters Tuesday.

In three NHL seasons with Atlanta, Nurminen has a 48-54-12 record with five shutouts and a 2.87 goals-against average.

Shitty luck for Pasi and the Thrashers. Nurminen was a good young goalie and he would ahve been a perfect guy to platoon with Lehtonen until Kari took over the #1.

Peter Ing was a goalie for the leafs in the early 90s. He had potential to be great but sadly he never even reached the lofty heights of an Allen bester.

A lot has happened since then. It's a completely different league, almost litterary

I think any predictions should be put on hold until we AT LEAST see the first 10 games or so of the season. The new rules, the players that are older etc etc. All the teams have been shaken up with new faces, guys have had a mega long rest, who knows how all those factors will come into play?

Guys I got questions about the fantasy draft,

1)The pre-rankings, that will only be used if I choose to have the cpu draft, right?

If I manually draft then there's no need for it?

2)If I draft a great goalie, lets say brodeur, is there a need to draft another great goalie(theo, khabibulin) or would that be a waste of a pick?

1.) There is no need, but it'll make it easier to find the guys you want the more you rank

2.) It's up to you. There are two starting goalies. You can have two shitty ones, two amazing ones, or one of each. Just make the picks you want.

I'd make up some sort of predraft ranking. It only picks from that list if the cpu ends up picking... but having a ranking is very nice when it comes to the bottom of the draft. At the end of last years draft i was feeling very rushed when i was making my picks.

dem - allright i'll take your advice and start preranking...witch is going to be a bitch now that I see there are 689 players...

Fifty - ahh Ok thanks for the goalie info

Yeah, preranking helps a lot even if you do the live draft. Like dem says, it can really make a huge difference in the middle/latter rounds when you have 30 seconds to pick and there's a list of 100 guys that all look about the same fantasy-wise, and then a few picks later someone else takes a guy you really like but forgot about.

If you draft a great goalie like Brodeur it doesn't hurt to draft another great goalie. Theodore is not such a goalie though. :D

Hopefully we can still afford Cooke. How much would it suck to lose a strong player like that over just a few hundred thou.

It has nothing to do with hate or spite. On paper, the Leafs appear to be worse than any other Canadian team. I don't care what happened two years ago, especially since the records weren't so far apart.

I just can't see Nonis not ponying up 1 - 1.5 for Cooke, especially given what he showed in the playoffs. I'm quite glad we've got Ohlund locked up, but I really want Cooke back on the team.

I suppose if we lose Cooke, we could try and get someone of lesser value when it comes to playoff production. Like Ryan Smyth.

I dunno, just throwing out names here.

Why yes... it looks like you have the next Glen Anderson on your hands :lol

Luongo rejected a 25 millions, 5 years offer this morning. He's basicly saying he wants out of Florida. Good for him, Keenan tried to lowball him and he was their franchise player.

Luongo... is... overrated...
Like he should get any more than Kipper.

Though he did us good in the World Cup

I'd trade clouts, iron chef, and a bag of pucks for Luongo. I'd have to tell Keenan the pucks are playoff experienced, but it might work.

Rocket9 said:
And that was before the new equipment rules.
This has to be a joke :lol
Luongo will be one of the goalies the less affected by these rules, he has quick reflexes and he's tall as hell.

Malakhov said:
Oh god someone actually compared Kipper to Luongo.

Kipper had a hell of a season last year. Why should Luongo get paid more than him?
If you dont pay for performance.. what the hell do you pay for? Potential? Fuck that.

Malakhov said:
Kipper only played 38 games while Luongo played 72 games and was astonishing, sorry.
Kipper has yet to prove himself.

24 wins (1 less than luongo with almost half the games played)

plus a very very good playoff run?

luongo hasn't seen the playoffs yet.

Kipper had a great run but he is far from being a proven goaltender. Only an idiot would take Kipper ahead of Luongo at this point.

Anyways, Keenan and crew tried to play hard with Luongo and lowball him and now their game just blew right in their faces. They pissed Luongo enough for him to want to leave.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that the club has acquired forward John Pohl from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for future considerations.

who? :P

ah. an in-the-system guy whos only played 1 nhl game.
