Official NHL CBA Conclusion thread! HOSANNAH, BITCHES

- I like the new logo as a minor tweaking of the old one

- I never liked the way the NHL did Bertuzzi's 'indefinite' suspension, it always sounded like they were much more concerned about waiting to see if mean-old US media would stop talking about it then punishing Bertuzzi or making a statement about deterrance. But if they wanted to add on 10 or 12 more games to make a point I'd say that'd be fair, but 20 or more in addition to what he's already served sounds way out of whack. Just have a proper disciplinary hearing with Todd and Moore and set a number and be done with it.

- 2 more hours to the lottery!? Sweet. I'm sure my dad and brothers will be listening to the radio to hear the outcome, but I'm still going to call them at 3:01pm and tell them Crosby's going to Hurricanes just to see if they buy it. Payback for the time years ago on trade deadline day when my dad convinced my brother and I (who were working for him at a site without a radio or anything) that Keith Tkachuk and 2 other Jets had been traded for Lindros. Bastard.

Anyone else hope their favourite team doesn't get Crosby? I dunno, there's something about it that I'd rather the Flames get Pouliot or someone else (but good). With Iggy there I think the inevitable cap conflict and media catfight about who to trade would be fucking heartbreaking. And the fact that if the Flames got Crosby they would inevitably find some way to screw everything up.

You're in trouble if the Flames or the Sens get him. The odds are stacked against you!

Seriously though, I can't think of a single negative to getting him. 2 more hours :(

Nolan will not accept a buyout from the Leafs at 66% because he feels he is due the entire amount under the agreement as an injured player.

:lol

Link, please.

edit: nm, found it myself http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=131061
"Doctors will then decide if he needs surgery or another form of medical intervention," Nolan's agent J.P. Barry told TSN Thursday.

"It's disappointing to Owen that it has taken this long to identify a problem he has been having over the last six or seven months," Barry told the Toronto Star on Thursday.
:lol WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU KIDDING? You knew what was up, you just wanted to see how the new CBA shook out. These agents must think our heads are full of pudding.
Nolan's initial buyout cost was expected to be two-thirds of his $5.627-million salary for this season, or approximately $3.8-million. If it is determined that Nolan's injury occurred before the lockout, he would want to receive his full salary from the 2004-2005 season ($6.5-million). When combined with his full salary for this season, the Leafs could be on the hook for approximately $12-million if they wish to buy out Nolan.
Actually, I'm not at all surprised. He always came across as a doofus. Have fun, Leafs management! *grabs popcorn* :lol

Woohoo! Fuck the Leafs! Would that count towards their salary cap? That would be pretty funny. "Sorry Sundin, we have to pay 12 millions for that old fucker who won't even play."

National Hockey League owners unanimously ratified the new collective bargaining agreement, 30-0, bringing an official end to the league's first ever lockout after more than 300 days

woo

now the rule changes are in 30 minutes :D

If the Flames get Crosby, I think what you express here and what happens in your mind will be very different.

And the new NHL logo stinks. Nice colours, but the letters make it look retarded.

Thanks for the stream link, dem.

Derian Hatcher at the top of the buyout candidates list...LOL @ Bob McKenzie trying not to snicker while reporting on Owen Nolan's injury/buyout dilemma.

edit: ahhhhhhh Glen Healy looking serious! "The thing I like the most - we're gonna get rid of ties!" :lol

"You're not scoring from the point on these goalies! I don't care if they have 9-inch pads!" :lol

Yeah probably. Maybe I'm just focusing on make-believe negatives to avoid getting my hopes up. I just would hate being a Pens fan or a fan of one of the 3 ball (hehe) teams because most of the year I'd have thought the weighting would have been much greater. In my first half-assed imagining of a draft lottery I thought the max chance teams would get a 10% chance and the establised elite teams and recent champs would get like .5% or something. That must have stung. :lol

... who else is playing the "how long can I stream this until either my supervisor walks in on me or IT notices the bandwidth and sends out a hit" game? I'm trying to limit it to 1 minute bursts every now and then.

EDIT: it should have been...
Glen Healy: "The thing I like most, beyond the fact that the PA won the CBA and got the market place they demanded from the beginning while giving up nothing else, is that there are no more ties."

Hire me. Now the audio isn't working anymore, the video never worked but now it's nothing. And of course our upgrade to win2k means that I can't even adjust my fucking desktop image, nevermind install a media player. :(

My IT guy isn't there today! :lol

FUCK EM, NO ONE IS GONNA FIND OUT. *looks out cubicle*

The Count is at the podium!

blahblahblahblah get to it already WHY IS HE THANKING THE LAYWERS? jEBUS

One! One set of rule changes ah ah ah ah

remove center line
tag-up offside at blueline
shootouts implemented
move goallines and bluelines 2 feet closer to end boards
modified no-touch icing
reducing goaltender equipment
penalize all defensive players who flip puck over the glass in the defensive zone

Atleast we wont have to hear Pierre go on and on about the stretch pass during the wjhc anymore...

TSN is only half loading for me now. I'm trying radio stations here but I can't find it - I think the all-sports station went tits up but I can't remember, if only CBC was broadcasting it then everyone with a radio could listen. :|

He just said Crosby goes to the Flames.

Goalie zone should be great...

Turco fucking owned the oilers by getting the puck when it was in the fucking corner.

Worst NHL game I watched in 2004 was Devils vs Islanders. DiPietro and Brodeur spent the entire game whipping the puck at each other, it was a joke. If they didn't make these changes soon it would get even worse, more and more young goalies work on their shooting/passing a lot and try to bring back the rover position - just with no fear of ever getting bumped off the puck. :P

The goalie zone is the best idea. It's not my ideal: I'd rather see goalies be fair game outside that little zone, but you know no one's going to stand for an adventurous goalie getting hammered, so I think it's the best of the situation.

Anyone think there are any teams that will trade the pick if they get it? (and what would the asking price be?)

intra-division -- 8 games each team
intra-conference -- 4 games each team
inter-conference -- 10 games total

bah, I don't like that. I'd like more variety. Fuck compassion for the players. They've always kept up a good condition.

And if Crosby goes to Edm, Cal, Min, or Col.... how conflicting. We'll see him so often, but he'll go to a main rival.

->Points at the Lindros trade

It could happen, but damn, a lot of good picks and players would have to be involved. Quebec did great on the deal only because Eric eventually faltered and the picks were worth a hell of a lot. In a more diluted draft atmosphere I'm not sure how effective that deal would be today.

*SickBoy takes leave of forum to watch announcement live*

Finally, a day where my late work schedule is a positive... though I imagine this'll be on TV and everyone watching it there...

This sucks......going backwards we'll know too early if we're out of it.

I guess they wanted to increase ratings
