I mean, he only does the CFL now. So I hope TSN finds a role for him in hockey commentary, too.

TSN broadcasts so few games, and even fewer Canadian games. But maybe they'll expand this season.

CFL? I thought you Canadians were smart enough to not watch football. Another illusion shattered... How popular is it in Canada ? Please don`t tell me it`s as popular as hockey.

Nothing's as popular as hockey :P

I'll abide, even support, baseball bashing. But there's nothing smart about not watching football -- even CFL football.

But CFL is nowhere near as popular as the NHL in Canada, although it has a pretty strong following a lot of places.

There have been so many big changes to the Toronto roster the past two weeks, Sundin's new look will take some by surprise after a year-long lockout.

"I really feel on top of the world right now," Sundin told Sweden's Sport Bladet yesterday. "I needed a break from hockey."

Sundin used the time to work hard on his physique, trying to keep ahead of Father Time now that he's 34. He's trim and well tanned from indulging in his second love, golf, and has cut his hair even shorter, giving him a more intimidating Mark Messier look.

"(Playing with Lindros) would be awesome, it would really create open ice, but at this stage no line formations are set," said Sundin. "I am a strong believer in Allison. And after that we (just signed) Staffan Kronwall, Alexander Steen and (Mikael) Tellqvist could be back, too. I'm looking forward to have a few Swedish teammates."

Pens signed John LeClair, no terms revealed yet. This comes out of nowhere for this Pens fan. I like it, though. LeClair isn't the force he once was, but he still put up over 20 goals last season. He's exactly the kind of physical force the Pens were lacking.

Pittsburgh's power play is going to be ridiculous. They've got Gonchar and probably Tarnstrom on the points, Lemieux on the left side, LeClair in front of the net, and Palffy on the right wing. And there's still Crosby, Recchi, Malone, and Jackman for the second unit.

and what about Malkin? He's going to be a playing on the penguins from the start i think

Malkin's status still is very iffy, I'm not betting on him coming over. The Russians rejected the transfer agreement, so everything is in limbo. I guess the Pens could still negotiate directly with his team, but it appears that they want to be compensated pretty heavily if he goes to America. My bet is he stays in Russia for another season.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pens sign Jozef Stumpel very soon. There has been mutual interest, but the Pens were waiting on Malkin before they picked up another center. With Malkin looking like a longshot at this point, they may just go get Stumpel.

The Pens still need to do something about the defense, though. Just getting a steady, physical guy like Todd Simpson would do a lot, even though what the Pens really need is a legit top physical defenseman. Hopefully, Orpik is greatly improved in his sophomore season.

No, in Toronto they'd place him on the 1st line and expect LOD numbers from him. So busy looking for saviors that the Leafs sign over-the-hill has-beens to ridiculous contracts, then piss and moan when they don't deliver. I daresay the Pittsburgh brain trust will use LeClair 100x more effectively than anyone in TO ever could.

What's the holdup? Does he want too much money?

The Church of Mats is now in session.

Aaaaaaaamennnnnnnn!

-edit-
Dopey has the pontificating Mats. Fifty is sporting the haggard, slightly crazed looking Mats. I have the "I'm going to fucking skin you" Mats. :lol

Koivu signed with the Habs today... for one season only.
He's UFA next summer. The end of Koivu in Montreal? :(

Wich centers are gonna be UFA next summer?

I think today was the last day for RFAs to accept qualifying offers. Koivu will prolly sign an extension during the season...

I probably would. It's a smart move for Pittsburgh, though, since they're adding veterans to a young team.

Yikes...I open up the thread to see the HIDEOS VISAGE of multiple Mats staring back at me!

*deletes FireFox*

Why risk the chance of seeing him again? It's best that you unplug your computer altogether! :lol

Damn! How in the Hell does Eddie O decide who to use on the power play now! God I didn't see that move coming in a million years. I don't care if Leclair even puts up just a few goals this year, just as long as he 'backs dat ass up' on the goalie, we have the best pp in the league. Hopefully he didn't get signed for more then 2 mill though... he has a bad back.

Shit, It is going to be a very interesting year. I feel like Craig Patrick played a little too much Sega hockey in the offseason, as the moves this team is making are mind blowing.
Imagine that PP in NHL 2k6.. Freaking Xbox 360, I would pay double to get that thing released a month early so I could play NHL2k6.

Naw, I would - and am - calling him a has been no matter where he goes. :D

He's slow and aging fast and while he scored 20 goals 2 years ago that was largely because he was soaking up PP and #1 line time he didn't really deserve. As a 2nd PP or 3rd line winger he could produce nicely if his health holds up, but he was a TOTAL non-factor in the playoffs.... I think most of the Philly d-men outscored him badly. I think for power forwards like him the difference between 34 and 36 years old can be pretty profound, and the '04 playoffs he just looked awful. Maybe a full year off will recharge him, but I just doubt it for some reason.

Has anyone actually seen an angry Swede?

Who was that guy Harold Ballard ripped about going into a corner with a basket of eggs and coming out with none broken? He was a Swede that came over around the Borje Salming era. :lol

Sportsnet has learned Steve Thomas was contacted last week by Maple Leafs' general manager John Ferguson and is seriously considering capping off his career in a Leafs uniform.

:lol

John fucking Leclair? Holy shit. He's been one of my most hated players in the NHL for years, but better to have his ugly mug scoring goals for the Pens than against them! Sign a centre and a big D man, and the Pens are looking incredibly freaking scary.

I'm still crossing my fingers for Malkin. :(

My buddy at work was telling me last week that his buddy trains with Steve Thomas at a certain gym in Whitby and that he told him how he wanted to come back to the Leafs. When he told me I just :lol and thought nothing of it. Now I'm:

:lol :lol :lol

P.S. Thanks Manics.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that he said Thomas was in tremendous physical shape and looked impressive. Don't count him out.

Guess who's the cover athlete for the Canadian and European versions of NHL 2K6. That's right it's Mats Sundin! :lol

BTW 2K6 will be $20 US once again.
