Allright, just a couple of shots here..

Man there really isnt a bad seat at the acc, I mean even with green seats the action was still not far away at all

Now that my first nhl game is out of the way, there's only 2 more things i need to do.

2 - watch a Season battle between the habs and leafs, and

1 - Go for a weekend to Montreal with my girl and go to see a habs and leafs in the city with the greatest fans in the world.

Going to the acc is great and all, but when the habs scored, there isnt much of a response from the fans, for obvious reasons. I'd love to be in the crowd at the bell center, where when the habs score I can cheer with an entire building of fellow hab fans.

I am trying to find tickets at ticketmaster at a Leafs game but I can't find any available that aren't for the pre-season. I'm guessing they aren't selling these yet, am I right or wrong?
 
Man I'm starting to really dig the new rules, it opens up the play so much. I think this will help the Habs this season since they have a lot of skilled and small forwards.
 
Im not to sure how it works actually, I got my tickets threw a connection.

My friend said getting tickets for habs/leafs for the season is going to be tough, so were planning to just start saving money now and hopefully grab tickets on ebay for sometime next feb/march.

And like I said, any seat at the acc is good, so dont be discouraged about getting nosebleeds because theres no such thing at the acc.

Hey Koopa whats the deal with the montreal goal horn? I noticed during the game on saturday that they played a u2 song when they scored?

Is that for preseason only or have they offically changed goal songs?

get them while you still can. you order by emailing them your address and what seats you want. I found this site a few years ago, i can't entirely vouch for them considering i haven't ordered any yet.

You pay through paypal and then they send the tickets via xpresspost

you can also use ticketmasters ticketexchange. There should be tickets available for a lot of games. It's when season ticket holders can't go to a game so they put them up for resale and then you get an email with a PDF which you print out (they are your tickets) with a new barcode.

and wolf was sitting in the fan section. the top bowl is where most of the real fans sit, the bottom bowl is where the business men sit. =p

Well my brother has gone to a couple games where he had obstructed view. Meaning he could see only 75% of the ice. (only one of the nets) Not every seat is good, but most of them are.

I actually downloaded it to my moto and have been using it as my ringer for like the last week and a half.

My family, my friends, my girl and my co-workers all think its annoying and needs to be changed, but I love it so thats all that matters!! ;)

edit - one night me and my girl were just on my couch making out with no tv or stereo on, just quiet.

All of a sudden my phone went off with the "TIR EL LE BUT!!!" and my girl jumped so hard that she gave me one wicked headbutt to my forehead!
 
I like the new rules in terms of playing the puck and having bigger offensive zones and such and tag up offsides, but if the NHL wanted more continuously flowing play, that's just not going to happen with 19 penalties a game.
 
well the idea is that the players will soon learn that they cant get away with the shit they used too, and thus will stop taking so much calls.

To be honest I actually do think this will work to bring more flow to the game.

Good to see the excitement is there with a new generation of fans Wolf. I feel lucky that I got to see hockey games in the old Montreal Forum (Leafs vs. Habs) as well as the old Maple Leaf Gardens before all these new arenas started to come about. There was something special about those old decrepid buildings that had so much history around them. I know, the new buildings have better sightlines, private boxes etc, but they all seem the same now. The old areans have alot more character. I'm old.

I hope so. I can't stand watching games where 30/60 minutes are on the PP. The players better smarter up and stop all the clutching, grabbing and stickwork. I want to realize the dream of free-flowing hockey once again.

Problem for you would be that you'd hear just as big a cheer when the Leafs score in that building. :lol Those are some of the most fun games to watch for pure atmosphere though. It was even cooler when they were playing at the old buildings, and both rinks were literally split 50/50 with Leafs/Habs fans.

You're right about the ACC though, there isn't a bad seat in that place. I've watched several Raptors games and last year's National Lacrosse League final from the nosebleeds, and I didn't have a problem seeing anything. In some ways the view is even cooler, getting to see everything below you including the entire play on the court/ice and the thousands of fans erupting. Only thing you miss is the details.

And they have no choice but to keep calling penalties...if there's still a parade going to the box in January, that's too fucking bad. It's what everyone who supported the lockout was saying...short term pain for long term gain. It's no different here. The players aren't idiots...they'll adapt.

Roenick was injured after carrying the puck up ice along the right boards and taking a hard but clean shoulder check from Phoenix defenseman Denis Gauthier at the red line.

“I think it indicates the state of our game, the lack of respect — especially in preseason,” Roenick said. “It is uncalled for. It is ridiculous — one of the reasons our game isn’t as good as it once was. There is no respect for people in this league. It was not a cheap hit, it was a good solid hit. But you don’t do that in preseason.”
 
I have 2 tickets to the Habs vs Leafs at the ACC on March 8th :)

Being a Leafs insider paid off HUGE this year, they had an internet presale for tix 2 weeks ago!

But one of my buddies was able to get tickets through the public onsale as well, but for some less popular games

Its all about waking up and getting on ticketmaster right at 10am :)

One of the things wrong with hockey is that sort of mentality.

You don't hit in preseason

You don't call penalties in the playoffs

BS. If you're playing pro hockey and you're lacing up those skates, whether it's preseason, regular season or postseason, play the game the way it's supposed to be played -- keep your head up and don't expect to get a free ride on someone's back... play the game.

I'm sure there are a lot of "purists" who *don't* agree with me, but this is one of the lame "unwritten rule" type of things that hockey seems to have more of than any sport but could surely do without..

Bitch please......JR you are a moron. It's called hockey and what better time than the preseason to condition your body for taking hits? The irony here is that JR would have dished out that hit too if he had the chance.


P.S. Anyone see the Leafs/Sens game last night? That Leafs D is going to be scary to watch all season long and the Sens really made the Leafs look s-l-o-w. The whole season (for any Leaf success) this year hinges on Eddie Belfour.
 
Haha, funny shit from JR considering he is the guy who regularly dishes out hits at the All Star Game and laughs at the thought that any of the other players would't like to take real hits in an exhibition game. I can sort of understand the idea that guys don't need to go full out during the preseason, but that ignores that fact that younger players or guys on the bubble HAVE to give it their all and do whatever they can to get a job.

To just say that guys hitting in the preseason shows a lack of respect is dubious at best - really, if you're a young physical dman you absolutely have to show your strengths all through camp, hell in the scrims you have to nail everyone you can within the rules. I guess you can say that a guy like Gauthier knows he's on the team and doesn't need to hit (although it is his entire game) but that notion is just a joke coming from JR.

Bitch please, the Leafs defence last night wasn't the same guys you'll see in the regular seaon. Both Klee and Berg are still missing and yes the much maligned Berg is better than Wozniewski. In addition, the Leafs weren't at their full lineup as was Ottawa. As Tucker has told the media, "relax, it's September"

Byron Ritchie was having an amazing Pre-Season with the Calgary Flames until Jarkko Ruutu absoulutely CRUSHED him last night. Definately the hit of the pre-season (haven't seen the Gauthier one yet).

Now I wonder the severiity of the injury, I think his hopes of making the team if it's a pretty good injury.
 
Didn't see the game (preseason doesn't mean a whole lot to me) but I hope I get to catch the highlights sometime today - that Ruutu hit is all everybody was talking about when I woke up today.
 
Blatant elbow IMO by Ruutu. Bugs me in the post game reports hearing Canucks talking about how it was a clean hit and part of the game. How ironic.
 
you're the first person I've heard anywhere- from other people who watched the game, to the announcers, to the players- who said it was an elbow.

I'll have to watch the hit again, I only saw it twice, but how come no one else is calling it?

Don't see how you can think he got his elbow up there. If he did hit him with an elbow, it would've been because the Calgary player had his head down between his forearms.
 
Looks to me like he led with his right elbow more than his shoulder and also looked like a charge. It was worse than the Naslund hit yet the Canucks are singing a different tune.
 
Clean hit from that one bad view of it, mainly because Ritchie had his head down. Sucks for Ritchie, but he was off to AkSarBen anyway. But Ruutu sure does love to give guys who aren't looking a little extra oomph on his checks, preferably straight to the helmet.

But damn is Iginla dumb! After that legal yet reaction worthy head-shot he actually went after Jarkko "Bitch Move" Ruutu expecting him to man-up! Who does he think Ruutu is, some sort of stand up guy willing to fight his own battles? Well, maybe if the battle is one of his choosing, like with the late notorious pugilist Sergei Zholtok maybe. Luckily Bryan Allen was there to absorb the beating that would usually have gone to Ruutu, were he not a gigantic pussy.


There's something a bit scary about watching Chris Simon fight, he manages to look both pissed off and bored no matter who he's fighting.

"I think it was a clean hit," he explained on Monday. "I think it was typical of most French guys in our league with a visor on, running around and playing tough and not back anything up."

"I'd think if a guy like Brett Hull was coming up the middle, somebody probably wouldn't have stepped up and hit him, but like I said, a typical move from a guy wearing a visor that certainly doesn't like to get scratched at all."

:lol Have fun not quite making the playoffs again! Just keep squinting at your depth chart and pretending that Peca is the #1 scoring center the Oilers desperately needed. Your forwards are just not playoff quality, it must kill you inside to imagine how much better this year would be if Nedved had stayed and Peca was slid down to the second line role he would excel at.

As far as the Cup goes, I wouldn't say the Flames are a favourite by any means. I do expect them to finish higher than 6th in the West, but beyond that who knows. I would say the Sens are the closest thing to a Cup favourite going in, except for the fact that I just can not even imagine Hasek getting it done - or even being unhurt for the playoffs. I think Philly, the Lightning, and maybe the Sharks as a total guess of a dark horse are the favs. I don't like the Flyer's chances because of Foppa or their 'upgrades' at defence, but because of Gagne being one year better and Richards and Carter coming in. Jeff Carter is my ROY pick along with Lehtonen (only if Kovalchuk is in atlanta) and maybe Crosby.
 
Nice Sabres-Leafs game thus far. The Sabres have had 3 two man advantages and have scored on two of them so far. I love these new rules! Teams that can't skate like the Leafs can't make up for it by grabbing everyone anymore. I know, preseason! I'll be there to gloat if the same thing happens in the regular season, don't worry.

Not that it's a guarantee of success, but Sports Illustrated is picking the Calgary Flames to win the 2005-06 Stanley Cup.

In an issue that will be on the newsstands Wednesday, SI rated three Canadian teams in the NHL's top six (the Ottawa Senators are No. 3 and the Vancouver Canucks' No. 6), but picked Calgary to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers in the Stanley Cup final.

"Why Calgary? Because they have most dynamic player in the game in Jarome Iginla," explained SI senior writer Michael Farber, in an interview. "Because they seem to be able to win without a true No. 1 centre. Adding (Roman Hamrlik) will boost the power play, which should make goal-scoring easier. And we're taking a leap of faith on goalie Miikka Kiprusoff — that he isn't a one-year wonder.

"Let's face it. We struggle with this too. It's a tough year to pick a winner."

The last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup was the 1993 Montreal Canadiens.

Calgary made it to the final in 03-04, after finishing sixth overall in the Western Conference, but lost a seven-game series to the eventual champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa is rated No. 4 by Sports Illustrated, followed by the Nashville Predators at No. 5.

SI is also picking a quartet of traditional powers — the Montreal Canadiens, the Colorado Avalanche, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Dallas Stars — to miss the playoffs altogether. They have Colorado at 18, two places behind the Chicago Blackhawks and the Leafs at 20, just behind the New York Islanders. [:lol] The other Canadian team, Edmonton, is picked to finish ninth, largely because of the addition of defenceman Chris Pronger, a former NHL MVP. Pronger's ex-team, the St. Louis Blues, was pegged at No. 23 and if they miss the playoffs, it will be the first time since 1978-79 that they did so.

SI also picks the New York Rangers to finish dead last, at 30th overall, one spot behind the Washington Capitals. The most controversial choice might well be the Florida Panthers, who were rated No. 10, after missing the playoffs for the past four years. Sidney Crosby's team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, are No. 13, after finishing with a league-low 58 points in 03-04.

"The only team you can guarantee is going to miss the playoffs in the Western Conference is Phoenix," said Farber. "Somebody's going to be this year's Calgary and we think it could be Nashville."

At least Farber admits everyone is pretty much guessing at this point. :lol I wouldn't pick the Flames to win the Cup if they were up by 20 goals in game 4 of the Finals with a 3-0 series lead. While it's a lovely dream, I don't see the Avs falling all the way to 18th spot... not yet anyway. Tough to argue with the Rangers and Caps fighting it out for dead last, but I would have the Pens and Panthers dropped down 4 or 5 spots each. I do think the Coyotes will finish around 10th, but I don't think they'll be so bad they can't possibly make the playoffs.

I'm assuming this was what dem was complaining about... I would have thought it was because The Hockey News picked the Flames to finish first in the West in their yearbook. :D

There's no doubt that Patrick Roy, greatest goalie of all time, had his ass absolutely handed to him by any number of wimpy looking Wing goalies. I'm surprised Hasek didn't have time to tune him up during the year and a half he was there.

You know, Lanterndresse derseves a spot on the team. He's bringing physical play to the team, and god knows who the last player to do that for the canadiens was.

And god Ribs sucks in shootouts, I don't know what the hell he was trying to do with that move.

Of course, Sean Avery's a tool anyhow, but still.

Anyhow, I like Gauthier's comments best:

“I’m really sorry he feels that way, but I had no intention of hurting anyone,” Gauthier told the Arizona Republic. “It’s a physical game. . . . This is my first year with a new team, and I’m fighting for a spot in the rotation.”

Re: the Ritchie injury (similar case really), In today's paper, you've got Iginla saying, yeah it sucks to lose a guy to a hard hit in preseason, but unlike the tards on the Kings, no Flame appears to have said that a hard but clean preseason hit is a no-no.

OK OK I admit I lost my head. My "we'll see in June" comment was an ironic throw back to Cujo's statement upon joining the Red Wings. He was asked if leaving the Leafs to go to the Wings for a chance at the Cup was a good move and he said "we'll see in June". They then proceeded to get bounced in April.

So my "we'll see in June" comment really reinforces my opinion that although I'm a Leaf fan, we'll have no chance of playing hockey anywhere near June this year around.

Sad but true.

Hey I just realized it's the anniversary of the Paul Henderson goal to beat the Russians in the Summit Series of 1972. That was the year that Eagleson fixed the tournament by bribing the Russians with new Levi jeans (as they were sought after in Russia). Pretty funny stuff.

Funny but I've heard of this theory too and that Canada in general paid off the Russians to save face.
