there are 99 seeds in the game iirc, if you give it X amount of seeds you will get an item like an accessory or seed slots.
you can also give it x amount of weak healing item for a better one but i don't use it myself since it ain't worth it. (i have enough money to buy good items)
WOW!! I didn't know you can save at the world map screen.. and that loading your save files refills your HP and MP... wow... that needs to be in the first post or something...
for noobs like me :lol
11 hours in... just finding out... so much money wasted on health and magic refill items..
I really hope Microsoft realizes what they have in Mistwalker. Lost Odyssey is a game that surpassed all my expectations, and I expect LOII to be even better. After all, Feel Plus, a newly created development studio, wasn't sure how to work UE3 to its fullest (and they did a pretty good job, especially with the language barrier).
Of course, I would wait years if they could create an engine specifically for LOII. That way they would master the engine already, and the engine would be specifically designed for that game.
I see good things for both Mistwalker and Feel Plus.
There is one complaint that I have with the game so far and it deals with a certain dungeon in a cave with certain holes in the floor. It made me sad. Very sad.
Anyway, for those that beat it:
How was the ending? No spoilers please, but does the ending live up to the story that was created for it?
All i know is there are some really dumb segments in this game that bring what would otherwise be a great game into merely a good one. And they are completely filler and worthless. They've tested my patience and when coupled with he loading issues, the real differences between this and the FF games become apparent.
Like when you have to do that stealth mission, or when you have to runa round like an idiot collecting flowers and firewood, or when you have to stand there for 10 minutes swinging around a torch

I know, it's just...There was this one treasure that I wanted to get (I'm trying to get all the treasures) and I figured in order to get it I'd have to fall down into one of the holes. Well, I kept mistaking one hole for a different one and that lasted four times (I'm not too bright) and, after I gave up, by accident, I landed into the right hole and got the stupid worthless treasure.
Like I said, I feel sad. My heard hurt all day after that.
Kinda, but still a happy ride, nothing too epic.
I liked it a lot, then went looking in youtube to watch it again and did so.
I'm glad it's good enough to watch again and I'm glad you liked it. I'm not sure how to take the "not too epic" thing and I'm not sure if that's a criticism or a compliment. Sometimes games don't need "epic" endings, though with a name like "Lost ODYSSEY," you may expect one.
Alright, I need some help here. Has anyone completed the Pipot trading quest? Not the 99 seeds quest, but the one that starts at the end of disk 3? I've given the Prickly Seed to the Pipot in Saman, He gave me a Solid Seed. Where do I take that one?

Just finished the first disk and I am truly dissapointed. Saving
Lirum's death
This game lacks intense moments. The worse thing is that I am already getting annoyed with the kids, and I predict I'll hate them more later. The only redeeming quality of the game... JANSEN. Jansen is the one fucking reason to play this game. Gosh, if Jansen stops being pivotal to the story I'll drop this game. I demand a sequel though with more Jansen.
On the comments about the games story, and emotionally evoking qualities of this game. ? um, yeah. I found the death sequence to be laughable and the other sequence mentioned - the singing... might have worked if the song wasn't like a total clusterfuck of fail.
Only time the game made me go wow/impact..etc (to be fair FFX didn't do anything for me) was when gonogora did what he did mid 3 disc. That was neat.
Lost Odyssey does have a very adultish quality to it that I really like. For one, the leads aren't twinky teen / pretty boys.
* maxed out all my mortals. grinding grinding grinding /snore
I just got this game and I played maybe half an hur but what I have played is really well done just the way the begining fmv slides into the game is cool....
Oh and my localeb sad they were expected to sell 6 total n the first week and sold over 40 and would have sold more but are sold out....I went to three other stores before I found it at eb(not a big fan of them) and all others were sold out. So I assume its done ok.
Actually, I genuinely wish they didn't use UE3. I wishthey would have worked something out with Artoon to use their engine for the game: Blue Dragon was gorgeous.
Tagged those links, as I'll probably buy a box for my Lost Odyssey game. Can anybody provide the boxart links too, as I'll probably put it in myself on the 4 disc case manually.
The dreams are amazing throughout. Some are better than others, but the quality is consistent.
If you are enjoying it now, you will absolutely love the stuff to come. The whole package is one of the better games I've played this generation on any of the three systems.
What am I supposed to do witht he gambling addict in Gohtza? I've lent him 1000 gold three times now and have three signed loan papers. Am I supposed to demand my money back now?

I disagree entirely on the 2 things you just mentioned. Then again it just goes to show how different the experience can be from person to person. I personally thought those moments were incredible and the song wasn't at all a clusterfuck it was surprisingly well done a lot better than I expected it to be.
I don't see how anyone could consider the death sequence laughable because it was incredibly well executed, but again different strokes for different folks.
Haha I'm loving these thousand years of dreams stories so much. More than anything, I'm just loving the total package, but you really do come to appreciate the careful work they put into this title.
Microsoft would have to be absolutely out of their minds to let these guys slip away or not tie them up in future big budget titles down the road. As of this moment I really do believe that this game will be a top 2 game of this entire generation for me.
There are so many things to appreciate about it. Not only do I love how they make sure to cap you off at a certain point in terms of experience gained from enemies, but I also greatly appreciate how they significantly tone down the random battle encounter rate once you've done you've had your fair share of battles in the dungeon. This is especially helpful because it allows me to just come back to places later and properly explore knowing that there wont be too many random battle interfere with my ability to search things to my heart's content.
I'm fairly sure I probably ended up leaving some cool stuff in
the Black Cave.
Zzoram yes you can, but that is something I figure you might've figured out already, unless of course you were talking about combining multiple rings to create one new ring with multiple functions, then you can do that too. This game is the total package.
Microsoft has themselves their very own FF with this and they need to take advantage of it and follow up. Just as Sony would follow up on God of War or ICO to SOTC MS needs to follow up on this franchise. Oh and toss a Blue Dragon sequel into the mix as well, but I really find myself dying to see what Feel Plus and Mistwalker end up doing with another Lost Odyssey.
I think Sakaguchi is also directing Cry On himself? Oh man I can't wait to get more info on that game
And this one actually deserves to sell well. I can't believe how much of a better game this is than Blue Dragon. I hope Mistwalker will continue to work with Feel Plus and will cut all ties with Artoon.

It better. The game deserves no less because it's pretty incredible. The game should really have no less than a 85-88 on metacritic, but this is just a shining example of how a metacritic doesn't always tell the real story.
#1 Game thus far this gen for me and I don't see it going any lower than Top 2 if even that.
Can't cut ties with Artoon I think they did a fantastic job with Blue Dragon and I really enjoyed it, but it's pretty obvious imo how much Lost Odyssey improves on Blue Dragon. Incredible content all over the place. The art continues to be some of the best I've ever seen. I'm really digging the thousand years of dreams (the whole concept is just cheating) It gives the game so much more value. There are, of course, the thousand years of dreams stories which directly relate to the game at the moment, but then there are others that aren't meant to relate to anything that is going on in the game currently, but more serve as a means to give you really cool background info on Kaim's life and what he has been through.
There was only one time throughout the entire game where I thought, oh no not another one, and it was only because I was searching Numara to see if I could find a weapon seller somewhere in the city. Even so I still read them and as I said that was the only time in the entire game where I thought "not now want to continue doing something else" I really enjoyed the stories nonetheless. All other moments they've popped up I've been excited and couldn't wait to start reading. I think that is a testament as to their quality. Just when I thought I would grow tired of them I get surprised and they start getting better and better in quality.
I'm hoping for a cool 270-300k in February to be honest. Combined between Europe and NA I would very much like to see LO hit no less than the 450-500k mark.
Overall I liked it very much, but there were a few things that so easily could have been fixed. For example, the battle's load times after you get 5 characters at once is a bit slow. I don't remember there ever being an install for this game. Why not give the option to load a few hundred MB for the battle engine onto a HDD? It would cut the time in half. The load times were particularly annoying in the Enlightenment side quest. Would have been a great puzzle but it was ruined by a random battle ever 10 seconds that would take 20 seconds to load.
Edit: A couple of other minor bugs:
1. There wasn't a stat display for magical defense while equipping stuff.
2. The second cast of a double cast fails if the original target is killed.

I've gotten so use to the battle load time with 5 people that it isn't that big a deal for me anymore. Pretty much negligible for the most part. It was a small nuisance in the Japanese version I didn't understand what the hell was going on and needed to find my way through tough moments in the game be that a puzzle or something.

The load times weren't a problem until I realized how bad it was when I got to Enlightenment. You'd take two steps around to remember where you left off in the puzzle and bam another 20 second wait.
My point is that it would have taken very little effort to implement something that would have halved the load times for something that is very frequently accessed.

I think one of teh only things holding this game back in sales will be the fct that they undershipped copies out to the stores I went to quite a few stores that were sold out before finding one that only had two copies. They only expected to sell and sold 40...I would not be surprised if it becomes at least a million seller in its first month (depending on amounts shipped)

really was laughable (it was a tad too exaggerated, among other things) and it doesn't help that the scene looked ugly to boot. The tears looked like liquid metal and the hair looks downright awful whenever there's a close-up. The scene could've been decent mind you, but the entire execution of it just fell flat. Not only that: it's mind-boggling how quickly the story changed to
'Let's kill the bad guy who's trying to conquer the world!'
, not to mention that the following scene with
Torren's fight against the supposed minister
was entirely random and had nothing to do with what just happened. Would've been better if the developers waited to show that moment until
after the funeral
. The
mini-game
also felt tacked on and could've easily been another cut-scene.
On the subject of
death
: the 'Letters of a Weakling' side-story (a vaguely similar tale) was much more effective.

This! I absolutely agree. Cant see anything laughable etc. in this scene. It was one of my favourite scenes in the game and a really awesome plot twist.

Just so you know: you can decline those Dreams whenever they pop-up and read them afterwards through the main menu or when you're resting at an Inn.
I know, but I foolishly jumped into them all right then and there, but now I'm actually saving some for the inn.
Gotta say man I disagree, but fair enough we have strong opinions about them.
My opinion of the cut to tolten was that it was not only smart, but it was also very amazingly executed. It surprised me, caught me off guard and due to the look of the scene it got my full and undivided attention. It added a very cool and unexpected moment to the game directly behind another cool and unexpected moment and they dropped it in there at the right time. They were intelligent to take advantage of the strength from the last scene in an effort to elevate the next. I really liked how they did it. I don't think the scene needed to have as much do with what recently took place because you see this sorta thing in movies all the time and just as it works well for movies it worked very well in Lost Odyssey. If we really get down to the nitty gritty there really was a connection between the 2 and I suppose it has very much to do with family relationships, the feeling of loss and the notion that each party involved now had something to reach towards and discovered or re-discovered new ways for them to cope with what was happening.
Tolten pretty much views Gongora as a father figure and he is now attached to him. The person he is holding on to thinking he cares about him may be a corrupt bastard, but its a bond he feels he has made nonetheless. For Kaim it's his 2 grandchildren whom he has recently discovered and as bad as losing his daughter for a second time may be he has forged 2 very important relationships that serve as what he last left of his deceased daughter who despite being immortal ironically hasn't been able to spend enough time with her
There are a lot of ways to look at it really.
I don't think the scene we are talking about was ugly in any fashion nor did I think it was exaggerated. We can't expect the game to be perfect in every imaginable way. Sure the hair isn't perfect, sure the tears weren't perfect, but it the scene was amazing and very emotional. Maybe I'm just a big softee. For what they had to work with it was stunning I feel very strongly about that. It was one of the best scenes of that nature I've ever seen I can't begin to see understand how it fell flat, but we just have a different opinion on that.
The sound of the kids at that very moment was incredible. It felt legitimate or very human in execution. Bad acting could've easily killed that scene and I thought the acting was top notch.
Considering what was found out during that moment or what was remembered by Kaim why WOULDN'T he be determined to kill you know who? I felt the reaction and motivation at that time was perfect. I mean the man just
got his memories back and realized that Gongora had fooled him into thinking his daughter was dead and totally manipulated him and screwed wit his head
Why wouldn't he react the way he did? I felt it was perfect.
UGH!!!! I went to the terrace cavern, explored it all, gained like 10 levels from 30 to 40 (only took half an hour) then as I'm leaving, I get doubled "all-stone" and I'm done.
Teaches me for not using anti-petrify but still, I hate losing all progress cause of something stupid like that.
