I'm loving the variety in PS3 offerings:

Heavenly Sword

Ratchet & Clank

Motorstorm

Are all vastly different experiences, I like that there's not an over abundance of a particular theme or genre.
 
I think the people that are talking about wanting games need to go back to the first few pages of this thread when it was said over and over that it is not what GDC is about.
 
Believe it or not I expected them to announce a surprise price drop...I guess that will wait until at least E3. Think of it this way, the main thing separating a 20GB from a 60GB is the HDD. They push that price down all the time, especially with volume ramping up. I am predicting that the 60GB will be $499 by late summer and they will drop the 20GB model ($399 is too big of a profit loss to chew off this year). Then it will drop to $399 in 2008. If they forfeit sales through this summer they are going to have a hard time catching up, so I expect $100 price drop in May...

why? do you live under the rock? Probably... have you ever visited youtube? Or any of the photo sharing sites?

What in the world are you talking about? There is free hosting everywhere. Why would Sony be afraid of anything? ISP is not responsible for user content, and due to closed nature of PSN, i doubt dubios material will move out of online chats.

User storage has been done properly 4-5 years ago. There is nothing unclear about this. They wont need anything that has not been done before.

Youtube already hosts and serves more media than PSN will have to do for years, even if it is very popular.

Stop talking nonsense.

you gotta realize sony love is a flowing because finally they're coming out of the doghouse. The reason we're saying now what could be said about the other consoles before is because this wasn't always the case, PS3 is now a good viable next gen system and it's still evolving.


Plus i want to justify my purchase, which i now have.
 
For me it's getting harder and harder to not go out and buy all 3 consoles. Home looks ****ing awesome, and with a price drop or two and a game from Team Ico I might have to actually buy the system. Of course I might be getting a job for once this summer, so that might help me a little.

the 20GB is non existent for the most part and sony cant afford a price drop. they are losing money in large amounts already. Sony is going for the long term everything will be ok we hope strategy.

Price doesnt get cheaper to make them in the way you think. consoles get cheaper when the tech involved is cheaper and for awhile that wont happen.
 
so there has to be different servers to jump onto like pso or psu...theres no way way everybody in the world can all be in the same area.

My only concern is not to be able to switch servers after you've joined one...or servers being full and not being able to join friends.

I won't pretend to know how that will work out but they could scatter it up by regions (in a way that it would alleviate Server load) and have it so when you want to visit someone in another region...you would take like a train or something. Theres a lot of ways to make it seem transparent but I'm also interested in how Sony are going to do this (Server side).

And that's why I bought this damned device in the first place. Not for Resistance (well, a little bit because of Resistance), but because I know that I will get all of this stuff on this console. I know there is top notch developing talent creating game experiences that range from the cute and cuddly to the light hearted and not so light hearted adventurous, to the dark and gritty and to the kinetic, and that's why I invested in this system. Sony games kick ass. Well, quite a bit of the time at least.

Not really, at least not at this level of quality and breadth. I like that other console just fine, but it's not competitive in this regard.

Price drop will happen SOMETIME this year, it's just a matter of when. Not dropping would be suicide. And yes, 20GB model being pretty much gone is another indication of a price drop coming SOON. Which is a good thing for gamers.

$499 is just a little too high for me still, but I bet it gets people moving who were sitting on the fence.

The discussion will eventually move back to games until this Home service actually proves itself as a reality (AKA is released this fall). If it turns out to be a "OMGWTFBBQ" level feature then it will start selling consoles then, but honestly there will be so many AAA games this fall (maybe more than any year in the history of the industry) that I think the games will still have the stage light.

If anyone is made looking kind of stupid by this whole thing it's Nintendo, not Microsoft. Nintendo's whole premise was built on a house of cards, and it's going to kill them now. The cuteness of a Mii is going to be instantly foresaken by any and all Japanese people as soon as they find out about this "new and better" thing from Sony, you can count on it.

Huh? Nintendo's promise is the controller, plain and simple. The Mii's are nice and all, but I bet you most new Wii owners had no idea what they were before they booted up.
 
Little Big Planet looks really neat. Home? Not so much.

Consider me a PS3 doubter that still isn't convinced. Some very nice first-party games coming from Sony, but just not enough games overall. Where's the variety in the third party games? Aside from a few big budget blockbuster games, many of which seem destined for 2008, the lack of unique third party games is really troubling and shocking for a Sony console.
 
Is there a h264 or mp4 version of the LBP or Home trailers? My laptop is too slow to play the videos properly, so I'd rather dump the files onto my PS3 and watch them on my HDTV.

This means I can't hate Sony with the same vigor I had before.

That actually looks really cool, I'm interested in seeing its execution, which is huge, because I've never been interested in ANYTHING PS3 related. In fact I've been quite allergic to the system.....

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I try to maintain a bias free approach when it comes to the next-gen consoles, but this looks absolutely incredible to me. Assuming they pull this off as well as they have presented it in the trailer, I think this will be the tide turner. Couple the Home concept with some good games finally coming out and it seems like the next-gen race just got close again. XBOX Live still does online the best, but I think this is going to change that. Well done, Sony. Well done.

Just wanted to see how many other people are changing their minds now about the PS3? I'm not a PS3 fanboy, but I would have to say this looks like it could be the next thing as far as getting a group going on-line and sharing videos then playing multi-player.

The controller doesn't do anything for me. Nintendo's promise is their stable of 1st/2nd party IP.

If their controller was a brick with razorblades superglued to it I'd still get a Wii for Fire Emblem and Paper Mario.
 
How could you care about Home and not care about MMORPGs/Second Life? The one thing that separates them is "look at the achievements" I have and possibly more connections with video gaming (Trailers on walls, Loco Roco furniture), and sort of interactive match making "Hey wassup want to go jump into Little Big World?" (good for random meeting, but from my Phantasy Star Online experience doesn't happen very often in reality).

The things to get excited about are exactly the same things about what make MMORPGs and Second Life fun to be part of (community, meeting, chatting, showing off, etc).

I have to say, I have doubts about HOME, and I have had doubts about the PS3 since the price was announced last year and the 360 gained so much momentum.

But now I'm converted. Seriously. Warhawk, Unchartered, Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword, Little Big World, Lair etc... have all got my hyped. Glad I pre-ordered my UK PS3 now - here comes the 23rd March :)

The living room experience is a big factor. Its the same reason why Wii owners prefer to play virtual console games on their Wii rather than using an emulator on their pc or watching a movies on their tv rather than on their pc.
 
i just thought of something. won't home service be inconvienent to view if you have a small tv? i can't imagine watching stuff on those screens from a 20 inch or less tv

do you care about Home?

i mean, jeez, heaven forbid i give people excited about home something similar that they can check out for free right now.

home is going to sit on the XMB as an option much as the internet browser does, but basically yes it's a downloadable game.
 
I have only started watching half-way through the home bit :( The loading in home looks quite fast. It all looks really great.

In second life you can't meet people in order to play playstation 3 games. You meet people and that's all.
 
Just got home recently and absorbed everything..

Home looks spiffy..have to see if they execute it though. It definitely gives off a Phantasy Star lobby vibe.

Little Big Planet is a charming piece of work!
I'm assuming its a downloadable game (is it?)..if its a regular retail game/full price, I'd be on the fence about it.
