As more games are being developed for WiiWare and DSiWare, I think this thread will become an even more valuable resource. I hope the OP will continue update it.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
I'm thinking of grabbing Artstyle: Orbient. Heard some good things about this version, and dug the BitGenerations one I imported for GBA a few years ago.

Is it worth getting if I already played Orbital on BitGenerations?

Personally, I think Rotohex is the best of the three, and the from the bit I've played of Orbient, I don't think I quite understand how to play it, yet. I have heard good things, too, so I'm sure you can't wrong with downloading it. But I just have to give a recommendation for Rotohex. It's the WiiWare game I keep coming back to.

...

I'll keep an eye o Bansai Barber and Adventure Island, but I have a ton of games to buy already:

-Punch-Out!!
-Bird and the Beans
-Paper Airplane
-Artstyle: Decode
-Artystyle: Hacolife
-Artstyle: Naluka
-Artstyle: Aquite
-Mario and Luigi RPG 3
-Rhythm Heaven
-Electroplankton
-The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

HOLY SH.. YES!

Majora's Mask, the only Zelda I've never played! :D :D :D

Wha?! You never even played Zelda 1? I'd imagine that any Zelda fan would've played at least the original at some point! :p

I played it on Animal Crossing GC after cheating with the Action Replay, I loved it! :D

I still have my Mario Bros. AC e-card! :D

Back to Zelda, my only other played game was Wind Waker, one of the most awesome facts about that game IMO, is that three of the four composers (the fourth being Koji Kondo) all did the music for Pokemon Stadium 1, while Hajime Wakai (one of the three) solely did the music for Pokemon Stadium 2! :D

Why hasn't Nintendo had the Stadium team make Pokemon Stadium 3 by now is something I'll never figure out. :'(

Ehmm, I must be dumb but I don't get it.
I said that Majora's Mask is the only Zelda's game I've NEVER played.
Is there an inside-joke of sorts I'm not getting? Spill it! :p

Also... YES, M'sM here I come!!! :D
Damn I wish PAL-VC's N64 games were in 480p like their NTSC counterparts... oh, well even in 576i I'm more than fine since they're optimized and with upped res.

Same here, Rotohex is digital crack. It's the type of game where you can feel yourself getting better every time you play it, and yet the game sets such lofty goals for the player that you feel compelled to keep coming back again and again. I just recently managed to clear 300 hexes in endless mode to take over the top spot in the high score list (ended up with around 330, I was in the zone) and finally managed to beat sprint mode with five colors after around a million failed attempts. Great MP too.

Orbient is pretty fun and rewarding once you get used to the mechanics, but it has a few design flaws that took away from the experience a little. Namely, there are times when you have no choice but to sit around doing nothing for an extended period of time, like when you're floating around in empty space waiting to get close enough to a planet to pull yourself to it or when you're orbiting a planet trying to collide with another planet or make your way past a series of obstacles which happen to be orbiting the same planet at the exact same speed. It also gets a bit trial-and-error-y at tiimes. Overall though it's a nice relaxing experience that provides quite a bit of challenge and a good amount of content.

I was the one who was mistaken. :p

Please forgive me as I'm a bit tired and it's past midnight, I meant no harm at all! :)

Last update was 02/05/09.
He was banned and didn't pick up on the offer from mods to keep updating through mailing them anyway.
So I wouldn't count on it, but I'd be glad to be proven wrong.

When the thread was started, facing a lot of questions on how doable this project really was for him and if he maybe needed more help, Danthrax swore he'do it constantly because, you know, the whole point Kobun Heat's thread was abandoned was because it didn't have an updated OP nor the author intended to do it. It is a massive "job" after all, it takes a lot of work, nobody could deny that. But Danthrax also shunned the idea of a 1-thread-per update that was suggested by some posters, again saying he'd be right on the job here.

The thread was started on 12/28/2008.
He delivered for 1 month and half, kinda.
Much better than the guy who offered himself to update the banner each week anyway, I think he must've updated an impressive *two* times before bailing out

It is now exactly the same as the old thread BUT we also lost all precedent talk, and talk of updates, which were a nice legacy to the very first day of Virtual Console.
We also had a separte Wiiware thread, which was very cool, full of screenshots, videos, banner and updates as well... think of Panther Lotus's charts applied to an official thread of sorts :p :p

Oh well, I guess most people here are fine with it...

It was fun.

NEW NINTENDO DSI USHERS IN ERA OF PERSONALIZATION AND SHARING

Two Cameras, Interactive Audio and Nintendo DSiWare Provide Creative, Customized Experiences

REDMOND, Wash., April 2, 2009 – On April 5, Nintendo launches Nintendo DSi™, the third iteration of the best-selling portable video game system and the latest evolution in hand-held gaming. Nintendo DSi gives new and veteran gamers the ability to customize, personalize and share their experiences with friends and family. Two built-in, interactive cameras let people snap and modify photos, while recorded sounds can be played and manipulated in interesting and imaginative ways. Also on April 5, Nintendo will launch the Nintendo DSi Shop, a new online storefront where users can redeem Nintendo DSi Points to download an ever-growing variety of inventive games and applications. Nintendo DSi will be available in the United States in Blue or Black at an MSRP of $169.99.

"The concept of entertainment is clearly expanding to enable self-expression and creation in ways never before possible," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Nintendo DSi is loaded with software to help people do exactly that. It's not just about the cameras or audio playback, but what people can do with these features that makes Nintendo DSi such an enjoyable game system."

Beyond the creative user experience, these features also give developers the tools to create new games and applications not previously possible. In the same way that WiiWare™ has given developers big and small a way to deliver their most original games directly to Wii™ users, Nintendo DSiWare™ provides access to the latest and most inventive hand-held games from a variety of studios and genres. Here are the Nintendo DSiWare titles that will be available when the Nintendo DSi Shop launches:

• WarioWare™: Snapped! – Using the built-in Nintendo DSi camera, this outrageous title puts players right at the center of fast-paced mini-games, challenging them to race the clock and get a peek at Wario's photo album.
• Bird & Beans™ – Using an elastic tongue, players must scramble to collect falling beans. The harder a bean is to catch, the more points it's worth.
• Brain Age™ Express: Math – In this math-focused edition of the popular Brain Age series, players can enjoy a mix of new and familiar training exercises. A new Themes mode also lets Nintendo DSi users experiment with images and voice recordings in fun, unusual ways.
• Master of Illusion™ Express: Funny Face – This game uses your Nintendo DSi as a prop in a card trick. Draw a face on the touch screen and astound your audience as the face tells them which playing card they picked.
• Art Style™: AQUIA™ – The newest addition to the eye-popping Art Style series, this mesmerizing underwater puzzle game challenges players to help a scuba diver reach the ocean floor by matching a series of colored blocks.

In addition to a diverse, constantly expanding lineup of DSiWare game titles, visitors to the Nintendo DSi Shop can also download the free Nintendo DSi Browser to enjoy portable access to the Internet. Powered by Opera, this simple-to-use application makes use of the Nintendo DSi system's dual-screen display to provide fast, intuitive Web browsing.

As an incentive to get people connected and enjoying the online content, consumers who buy a Nintendo DSi system and connect it to the Nintendo DSi Shop by Oct. 5, 2009, will automatically receive 1,000 Nintendo DSi Points. (Visit dsioffer.nintendo.com for more details.) Software in the Nintendo DSi Shop will be available at four price points: free, 200 points, 500 points and 800+ points. Users can purchase additional Nintendo DSi Points in the Nintendo DSi Shop or via a Nintendo Points Card sold at retail locations. Nintendo DSi Points will be available in increments of 2,000 at an MSRP of $19.99.

Nintendo DSi allows users to create and share unique moments using a number of distinctive features. Two cameras – one pointing at the user when the system is open, one facing away – let people take photos and manipulate them with 10 built-in "lenses" including Distortion, Graffiti and Mischief. The cameras inspire creativity by letting users personalize their photos and trade them wirelessly with friends and family. The Nintendo DSi Sound application lets people put their own spin on their music with the ability to play and manipulate AAC sound files accessed from an SD card. These sonic tweaks are not saved or stored – they're meant for having fun on-the-fly, changing the pitch or playback speed of a clip with a simple touch of the stylus.

Nintendo DSi features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about Nintendo DSi, visit www.NintendoDSi.com.

I really like Super Punch Out but I never realized how much it was a step back from the NES version. I like the added depth to the fighting but I'm glad the new Wii game is taking more from the original.

The controls were mostly the same. I prefer how the super punch was achieved in SPO, but have no preference between one long round or 3 short ones. The clock ran so fast in the NES version.

The core gameplay is basically the same, so I'm just glad there is a new game and they're sticking to what made the series so great.

Didn't it also have to do with the fact that the old thread was too hard to navigate for non-regulars? Which is pretty much that same as it is now, but I think I remember that being tossed around.

I think that was the reasoning. Not like this thread is any better or anything.

And no, I'm not suggesting another new thread. In fact, I wouldn't oppose a return to the old one.

Hey GAF, I need some suggestions for my next VC purchase. I'm a big fan of RPGs, action/adventure and platformers, and I'm looking to branch out into shmups. No NES recommendations please, as I've pretty much played/beaten most of the releases.

Games I own:

- Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen
- Sin & Punishment
- Ys: Book I & II

Games I'm considering:

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
- I own 1 and 3 on the SNES, but not 2, even though I've heard it's the best of the trilogy.

Landstalker / Neutopia / Neutopia II
- Look like good action/adventure/Zelda-clones.

Lords of Thunder
- Has gotten great praise from around the net, and has a rockin' soundtrack.

Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
- Will buy eventually, as I have PS Collection for the GBA. I've beaten PSI, and will get this after I progress through II and III.

So, any thoughts on these, or any other recommendations in general would be greatly appreciated!

I'd go with Phantasy Star IV, first, but most of the games you mention are awesome... Landstalker is far superior to Neutopia/II, which are fairly bare-bones but decent Zelda 1 clones. Lords of Thunder is like the most METAL game ever, highly recommended. Other games I'd recommend, since we seem to have similar tastes (based on the other VC games you bought): Wonder Boy III Dragon's Curse, Shining Force I and II, Actraiser, Secret of Mana, MUSHA, Super Star Soldier, Soldier Blade, Life Force.

Damn, I have never played Majora's Mask, it's the only main Zelda game I have yet to beat, so I've been REALLY looking forward to this. Perfect timing, with the SD card support finally implemented, too! Hope it hits the US on Mon!

Oh god I'm so excited, in case you couldn't tell by looking at my username :D It's years since I've played MM all the way through. I tried with the GC version but it wasn't a good conversion and I got fed up. I assume the crash bugs will have been eliminated, which were practically a game breaker given the save system, in which case I'm hoping there are no music skips when transitioning between areas, most noticeable in Clock Town. Also I seem to remember the frame rate being pretty bad in Clock Town in the GC version but I can't remember if it was like that in the original.

This is gonna be the first time I've stayed up til midnight for a VC release in ageees.

Don't get your hopes up people, NOA will probably make us wait a while for MM because they're a bunch of dicks.

Star Parodier is a great shootemup and isn't too difficult, buy it now!

Thanks for the advice. I own the carts for Actraiser and Secret of Mana, and I've played through Shining Force I and II, so I think I'll go for Lords of Thunder first, and then one of the shooters you've recommended.

I love how dark, surreal and atmospheric MM is, but a lot of credit must go to the soundtrack which completely shames recent Zelda soundtracks like Phantom Hourglass and Twilight Princess. I love the trippy music in the intro with the skull kid, the heartbreaking strings as the moon descends on the third day, the Astral Observatory music. There are so many neat touches, such as the way the Clock Town theme gradually alters over the course of the three days, slowly growing more sinister and off-key.

Fuck I love MM. I wish Nintendo could take this type of risk with the series again.

We still can.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129709

I think a new thread each week makes the most sense, though. We don't keep a huge, endlessly running Media-Create thread, after all. Same with the weekly PAL sales thread. In each of those threads, there's a standard format that includes linking to the past few threads for reference, as well. We just need someone to create a format that's easily repeatable, and then start a new thread each week.

Man anyone who hasn't played MM yet is in for a treat. Easily the best Zelda, bar none.

As long as they get the emulation right this time.

Although I prefer OoT and TP more. But MM is still a great game.
