Honest question: Does Microsoft have plans to make Xbox Live Arcade interesting or are they content with the way things are right now?

I really hope this isn't how the people behind Live Arcade pictured things and that they are working to actually improve the system with actions instead of just words.

"Interesting"? I loved ROot Beer Tapper and I'm going to love Paperboy. They're both great ARCADE games.

*walks along gutter, following paper boat as it hurtles toward drain*

FUKKIN BOO! Paperboy? I thought they were JOKING when they said that was gonna come out.

Seriously man. Where the hell is my King of Fighters, Marvel vs Capcom, THE GRID, Cybersled, Sanfrancisco Rush, etc.? I mean what the ****? Paperboy? ****in Paperboy? Root Beer Tapper? Both Pac Man and Ms. PacMan? On seperate weeks? I mean shit, this LIVE ARCADE thing is just starting to look like a 70's/80's compilation disc trickled out one game at a time for $5 each instead of $20 for disc of like 40-50.

Don't do it!

No interest in Paperboy unfortunately, but at least we find out early this time :P

Personally waiting for Worms, Catan, mini golf and maybe Eets.

I think you're shooting a little too high here. Can you pick games that have so far been actually announced by the respective publishers/developers to start with?

go search my post history in this thread. my vehement defense that things are in the way to changing should answer your question.

****ing lame. XBLA will go the way of real arcades if they keep this up. This arbitrary once a week shit is BS. They should have high profile releases set for software lulls, like now. Shit like this is going to be bought by the fans of (insert old ass arcade game that has already been availible on multiple classic collections game here) whenever it comes out.

well... if the press release list holds true, then there's no more classic/retro coin-op arcade titles left for the remainder of the 10 announced.

Isn't Track & Field still in the hopper somewhere?

Christ, the one arcade port I was looking forward to, and even THAT can't come out.

Only 400 MS points and I'll get achievements. Thanks for keeping the price low. OK . . . I'll get it.

But seriously . . . are we gonna see an end to the 80's retro fest soon? I'm an 80's retro fan and even I am getting tired of it.

Double-you tee eff.

Xbox Disappointment Wednesdays continue.

Does anyone know where there's a chronological list of releases? I keep wanting to see if I'm overreacting, and the Wikipedia article for XBLA is all ordered by genre.

Original games this year (that's seven arcade Wednesdays for those of you at home).

Jan. 17: Heavy Weapon

Not quite living up to my expectations, although I imagine things'll be better in the coming weeks, given the list they put out recently.

Heavy weapon isn't an original game, that's a pop caps game. That's been playable on the PC for years. You may want to revise your list!

Dammit! :)

I guess that makes it a list of non "classic games" titles. Pretty sad.

F all the haters. While I wish it was Worms, Paperboy is legendary. At last a classic game for XBLA I actually used to like back in the day and am looking forward to revisiting. I never played Galaga, Digdug, Gauntlet etc etc so none of those have meant anything to me (with the exception of Pacman and of course Doom) so Paperboy is cool.

Can't wait to do the BMX track at the end. Never got very far on it on the C64 cos I sucked.

Come on, it's a major overhaul of the PC version, it's hardly a straight port.

I don't think I'm shooting too high. If Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 can come out, with online play no less, then I don't think some of the other ones I'd like are that out of line.

It just irks me that each release is supposed to be so carefully "hand-picked" by the folks at LIVE, and then we get these early 80's classics thrown at us. It makes me feel like there aren't any GAMERS picking these games out or approving them, but rather some suit who remembers playing these games back in his teens or 20's and skipped over the 90's entirely.

There are games out there that would seem to be a perfect match for XBLA, but they are either never announced, or they never materialize once they ARE announced. And from what I have read in interviews, the whole "We don't want XBLA to be a place to dump your old Playstation 1 games" attitude pisses me off. So Playstation 1 games aren't welcome, but Scramble, Time Pilot, Root Beer Tapper, and Paperboy are? What the hell? I wanna know what the guidelines are for what is acceptable and what isn't. SOTN is one of countless games I'd love to see on the marketplace. I could make a list 100 games long. And you know what? It'd be AWESOME if they all came out. You can argue that they wouldn't each be special and wouldn't get the attention they needed to sell and get lost in the mix, etc. etc., but how expensive can it be to port a game to the service? Its gotta be pretty easy to break even if you're just porting something. Besides, consumers want CHOICES. Lack of choices is what has made the PS3 the joke of the industry right now. You may not see it, but XBLA is looking pretty similar to the PS3 in terms of being overpriced ($5 retro games) with poor selection.

Arne, if we actually get the following announced titles in any order, with no "missed" weeks in between, I will give you a dollar. Maybe even two!

3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures
Alien Hominid HD
Band of Bugs
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Catan
Eets: Chowdown
LUXOR 2
Worms

I bet we get Eets and an Uno deck (or nothing) to finish up February and t hen Luxor kicks off March. We MIGHT get through this list of games by the end of April, but it is doubtful. More than likely it won't happen until the second week of June.

Wait, what? Having played those old games and liking them doesn't make one a gamer?

you know it's also still up to the developer to make a submission to have an XBLA release. There's two pieces to this puzzle. And developers/publishers can announce whatever they want about XBLA once they've been approved for a release. beyond that, i have no idea what's been submitted, what's been approved but not announced, etc.

you want to see KoF on there, go bug SNK, Marvel vs. CAPCOM go bug capcom (wouldn't this be unlikely ayway).

that's not to shift blame or responsibility, it's just like normal retail games afaik, you still have to submit a concept to get the greenlight to bring it onto the platform. so, yes, the ultimate decision falls on the XBLA team that approves that.

Hey, I've been downright civil lately! Then again, everyone else kicked it up a notch, to maybe it's just relative.

I was hoping the retro titles would be spaced out through the next ten and something more interesting made it out this week. The good news is, I'm either genuinely excited or at least interested in the remaining eight games on the list. I'm not going to pester for any particular game, but I can see myself buying at least five of the next eight, assuming those eight are indeed the next ones out.

Part of the reason I'm not too excited about Paperboy is I remember it being hard as hell. Most of these retro titles are WAY harder than I remember. Hell, I couldn't get past the second level in the demo of Tapper - no need for the whole game when I suck that hard. :lol

paperboy IS hard as hell. hell, root beer tapper is hard as hell. to me anyway.

Arne, not that I agree with the Wednesday bashing, but...

Considering that MS releases a timetable showing 2 retro-arcade games, 1 PS game and 7 new IP/games coming in the next 10 weeks, what would be the worst possible scenario? To release the 2 retro-arcade first, of course. Again, MS does the worst possible case... No wonder a lot of people complain...

Well, the worst case scenario would be to wait a week, then release Paperboy. Which I was expecting to happen. So, bravo XBLA team, for avoiding the absolute worst case scenario and going ahead with the just plain boneheaded scenario.

First, expectation management, its not necessarily 10 weeks.

Second, now that these terrible games are out of the way, it's all gravy, right?

Also, I'm 90% certain that we're going to see nothing next week, seeing how Microsoft already played both their "who gives a crap about this shovelware" cards two weeks in a row.
