Werden die bomben fallengelassen?

My money is on more than games being announced. I think arcade as you know it will be gone, just my conjecture though.

They have been too quiet and the Xbox team seems to like een droppen the Thursdaytons in Springtime anyway.

Which games will they announce? Maybe we will finally see some more 2D fighters on the system. Maybe Street Fighter 4. More likely something like Guilty Gear.

This week at GDC, Microsoft will showcase forthcoming Xbox LIVE Arcade games from a cross-section of genres to the game development community:

• “Boom Boom Rocket” (EA and Bizarre Creations). This eagerly anticipated title from EA and Bizarre Creations is a hypnotic rhythm music game that will launch on Xbox LIVE Arcade this spring, priced at 800 Microsoft Points.

• “3D Ultra™ Minigolf Adventures” (Sierra Online and Wanako Games). The first outdoor sports game on Xbox LIVE Arcade, “3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures” lets players putt their way through 36 fun-filled holes on wild courses that include settings such as the Classic Carnival and the fantastical Outer Space.

• “Eets: Chowdown” (Klei Entertainment Inc.). A completely revamped version of the popular PC title, “Eets: Chowdown” offers a fun puzzle game experience unlike anything else available on Xbox LIVE Arcade, and features new items and 120 new levels.

• “Jetpac Refuelled” (Rare Ltd.). This is a new take on Rare/Ultimate’s 1983 classic space blaster with enhanced graphics and Xbox LIVE features; players must clear a path through hordes of aliens to refuel their ship and amass a fortune over the course of more than 100 high-definition levels.

• “Pinball FX” (ZEN Studios Ltd.). “Pinball FX” offers an unparalleled pinball experience that will be fun for novices and experts alike, with realistic ball physics and stunning 3-D tables. “Pinball FX” also features real-time, head-to-head competition over Xbox LIVE and Xbox LIVE Vision camera support.

Same reason Metal Slug games get hype. But to Alien Hominid's credit there is MUCH more content in it than any single Metal Slug game.

Note: That doesn't mean Alien Hominid is better than any of the Metal Slugs. Okay maybe it's better than MS4...ever so slightly.

I love Alien Hominid. It's humerous, colourful, bright, fun and very addictive. Also a complete bargain for 800 points - with the PDA etc.

I feel pretty similarly. Hominid is hard, but I am having fun with it. Plenty in the package for the price, too.

Yeah, but Metal Slug has been around for over a decade and the series is stagnating.

Damn when the minigolf game come out? Gosh, i wish for 2 releases a week. When will we get Live Arcade XNA titles? GDC..

from the PR...

The power of the XNA tools is demonstrated with today’s announcement of “Schizoid™” (Torpex Games LLC), an upcoming game that will be the first Xbox LIVE Arcade title built using XNA Game Studio Express. “Schizoid” is a co-op action game in which teamwork matters like never before, as gamers and their friend or AI ally protect each other from barrages of glowing enemies. The title is scheduled to launch on Xbox LIVE Arcade before the end of 2007.

Sweet, more co-op games, please. :)

What in the world is this Settlers of Cattan game? I confess I have never heard of it..

It´s one of the best and most addicting board games ever. This will be a huge hit on live, I´m sure. Check this out!

More content, but the underlying mechanics of the gameplay wish they were as tight as Slug's on Slug's worst day of the week.

Don't get me wrong, Alien Hominid is fun, but it's a touch too janky and Flash-y to hang with the Contra/Gunstar Heroes/Metal Slug big boys of the shooter genre.

Normal in Alien Hominid isn't too much trouble thanks to the generous continue system but hard mode isn't very balanced. I forgot what changed but it was something that cheapened the gameplay instead of making it more challenging.

I'm really looking forward to more games from The Behemoth. I love the art style and the gameplay can only get better as they gain more experience.
Castle Crashers 2 is supposed to be done already. So you should be getting more Behemoth games sooner than you would think.

Well the first bomb was dropped at least...

More bigger sized arcade games FTW. Darkstalkers and Street Fighter please. Also Neo Geo games. And Guilty Gear.

Don't expect Catan for a bit. From an interview with Brian Reynolds:

How far along is Big Huge Games in the development process?

We just sent a build off to test that we have high hopes will be our "final certification" build. In other words we think that Big Huge is done working on the product. If we're right, you'll probably see Catan on Live Arcade sometime in mid-to-late March.

So April to late winter, depending on how pessimistic you are towards the cert process. I hope we see it soon though, Catan rules.

Edit: Uh, removed a link. I guess certain sites don't play nice with NeoGAF.

That actually seems like it will be sooner than later really.

Hopefully. Worms was supposedly "done" 4 months ago so who knows.

Reynolds didn't exactly mention how many builds have gone through cert so far, and the game has seemingly been in development for awhile, so it could go either way IMO.

Now that Worms is coming though, barring something horrible like online play being broken I am set on XBLA for a few weeks.

Well Worms was done (the game itself) but they hadn't done a lot of testing with the dashboard or other OS type issues which is what caused them grief getting over the certification.

This is covered in the most recent MN podcast.

castlevania:SOTN on march 14....

I just wonder if that's true.

I've been waiting for a definite launch date to start getting hyped.

Is it posted before? I might have missed it in hordes of new GDC related posts.

Space Giraffe officially confirmed for XBLA....

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=12992

This was also the first official confirmation of the game's name. Space Giraffe is currently in alpha testing, and will launch on Xbox Live Arcade in the near future. Curiously, Minter stated that the game runs on the Neon architecture – the visual light machine that comes with the 360 for music visualization, which he also created.

YES MINTER YES~! Hurry the **** up with Catan too, I need some board games.

March 7 - Worms
March 14 - Castlevania: SOTN
March 21 - TMNT
March 28 - Catan

If this list is correct, then this will be the greatest month of XBLA ever.

Hasn't Space Giraffe been announced before? I remember people shooting their wads about it quite awhile back. And I still don't get the hype for it. It looks like just another one of his Tempest games over a Win-Amp plug in.

It would be cool to finaly see something XNA on the marketplace, any screens for this game?

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=12991

He then launched Space Giraffe and played it for the audience, while he described its gameplay as well as some of how it was developed. “First thing’s first: Space Giraffe is not Tempest,” he stated. “You can play this like Tempest, but you’ll wonder why you don’t get a good score.”

Minter demonstrated playing the level in a Tempest manner, followed by playing the level by properly using the Bull attack, giving him a score ten times higher. Other enemies unique to the game include feedback monsters that cause the whole level to pulse and flare, as well as enemies that would spin the level around.
