Whats the best place? I know the EBGames down the street is going to pull the 'oh you need a reservation' shit ... so where else can I just walk in that day and go get one? Best Buy, Circuit City ... where? And I'm a little confused as to what actually wil lbe out that day ... what are all the games that will be on the shelf, and their cost? Thanks.

Also .. any ads for this weekend showing the DS and its prices/deals would be appreciated.

You could also try Best Buy. That's where I'm going to go, they're all first-come-first-serve, at least around here (NY/LI).

i just talked to the girl at Walmart. She says they won't be released until the 26th. Either she really doesn't know, or this year's Black Friday at Walmart will result in a record number of casualties.

1) She was a girl

2) Its Wal Mart

just got off the phone w/ an as. manager at gamestop here in dallas, and today they got 3 copies of madden and the urbz each, and maybe one other game (can't recall)

they also got their initial shipment of systems: 24 total, w/ 19 reserved
so yeah, if you didn't reserve at a game store, wake up early sunday and search for the stores most ppl don't think of when they look for games or larger chain/department stores that get bigger allotments than gs/eb

How long is the DS warranty for? I wonder if anyone will buy the extended warranty from Ebgames or where ever because of fears from scratches.

TRU is getting 40,000 for the first shipment, but most stores are getting under 20(New Yorks getting a ton). The games are even scarcer with TRU getting 30,000 of the Mario games in the first shipment, with stores getting varying amounts. Of course, Spider-man 2 is arriving in huge quantities.

Yeah reserves are a crock ...

They absolutely are not. If you would've had the presence of mind to reserve a DS, you wouldn't have to feverishly run around Sunday morning looking for one. Me? I'm going to sleep until noon and then leisurely drive up to the local Gamestop and pick up the system that they are holding for me.

I really don't get the resistance to reservations around here. It's not like you lose anything...it just makes it so you don't have to worry about finding what you want.

Or I could walk into a Best Buy and not pay MSRP jackup prices ,and maybe get a game for a cheaper price or with extra stuff than buying one from a Gamespot or EB.

Um...sorry if this is a dumb question, but why isn't Nintendo pumping out enough systems to meet demand? I see no need to make this so damn hard to get a hold of that you need to reserve.

My DS is gonna be 149.99 at EB and the games are all standard price. Also, since I've been abusing those deals Wario posts, I've assumed a lot of EB credit towards the DS.
Fuck man, I work at TRU and I'm still buying my DS at EB. If you work it, you can do wonders.

GameRush is allowed to sell there's beginning at 12am Sunday morning (most if not all GameRushs are open till 1 am on Friday and Saturday nights

There's the Japanese launch two weeks later, where they have 2 Million pre-orders already. And then there's the fact DS is far more complicated to manufacture than the GBASP or GBA... so yeah, shortages are likely.

Nintendo NEVER pumps out enough systems to meet demand when they launch.

Which store is that? Not specifically, but the name?

I work at Best Buy.

Extended warrenties usually don't cover wear and tear I'm afraid, you would have to claim something else is wrong with your DS besides scratches... I was playing the Metroid for about 20 minutes tonight after I got off and the environments just blow me away, I am very impressed with the DS so far. And there is not one scratch on the DS so far, hopefully the screen can withstand long term abuse though....

True, but our local Walmart operates a little differently, practically independant of other stores in terms of sales. i wouldn't put it past them to hold units until the 26th, though i doubt it'll happen.

Haha, they don't? Go buy your DS at Toys R Us. $16.99 plan, covers wear and tear.

Well, I guess I will cover Gamestop. My store had 50 reserves and we got 72 systems, we also have plenty of games available for the big title(s). I'm not sure what we are going to do with the extra systems. We may sell them, though.

...what else would you do with them? Pay prostitutes?

Extended warranties suck. I'm sure the DS can withstand much abuse(I've never had a Nintendo system fail). At TRU, you have to call and then send in your DS to get a new one, and they are really bad about following through with the plan. I'd rather get a plan that lets you switch it out at the store.

Unless you want a plan to abuse it so that you can get a new DS because of the screen, just get screen protectors. They're thin pieces of clear plastic that go on top of the screen and protect it from scratches and smudges. After the protector loses its clarity, take it off and slip another on. The cheaper ones will probably muddy the image a bit, but it's a small price to pay for not having to deal with scratches and smudges. i trust Nintendo quality, but i don't trust them to break the laws of touch screen physics with an unscratchable screen.

Screw it. Money wise I'll have to wait anyway. I'm moving out in a month and I gotta save rent. Thinking realistically, Nintendo's limited supply handheld can wait until after the new year. If any of my friends have a problem with that, I'll beat their face in with a shovel and steal their DS.

Hmm did Gamestops just start recieving them today? I'm trying to figure out if I can get my DS on sunday or monday D:

Target has them and the Mario game already. They will sell them the 21st.

Best Buy and Fry's will also have them on the 21st. Fry's already has them in the back; don't know about BB.

Best Buy already has some games and the systems are in the back aswell. I was shocked that we were going to have so many, with all this pre-ordering and insane Ebay prices going on.

It's a little thing known as physics. You see, a DS has to be assembled in a factory from custom parts, and then shipped to a store. The factory can only produce so much at one time.

Of course, they could push back the launch date in order to build up more stock; would you want that?
