I wonder if Rouge knew Luffy's mom or Dragon knew Gol, or they all knew each other.
Can't wait for How I Met Your Mother, Dragon version where he tells a 20 book long anthology of stuff that has nothing to do with Luffys mother, but him being friends with Roger, his wife, Ivanov and Canada Hongou.

Like I said, I think they'd rather sweep the name under the rug by demonstrating that it's meaningless. Someone famous like Garp, the "hero" of the marines who contributed a lot to the marine's service, obviously isn't viewed by the public as a threat. Garp, I'm assuming, has no knowledge of his name's meaning or even if he does hasn't acted upon it. So there's no threat in having his employ demonstrate that D.'s are nothing to worry about in some cases.
It's all about turning reality into falsehoods and gossip imo. But I'm sure the Gorosei kept a close eye on him for reasons we don't know of yet.

The story ends with Luffy saving the world, finding One Piece, and becoming the PK. As he's fading away into his early death, getting drowsy, like someone said earlier, he'll wake up as a kid, confident he'll become the Pirate King. Rinse and repeat forever.
