I'm getting an error when I try to install Sim City 4 that says "The VC++ runtime redistributable package was not installed successfully. Installation cannot continue."

What do I do?

Don't be so sure of that.

If they take away these games, it would be the worst thing they have ever done. They should just chalk it up to marketing money and move on. They have people's attention now with Origin, and a little bit of dedication to the service now they own games for it.

Not only that, the new Origin users will never use it. Ever.

P.S. How the hell did people get Alice?

Is there any way to redownload an installer without uninstalling the game itself? I forgot to turn on the save installer option when I downloaded a few games last night. I woke up to them installed and would like to start playing them, but I want to keep the installers just in case.

I'm giving this anecdote for probably the fourth time but they took away my copy of Battlefield 3 that I got from an IGN Prime promo after a week. I heard that they did the same to some other people too. But this one is a bit bigger issue.

Yeah, there was a good reason why we couldn't buy BF3, Premium, Amalur or recent shit, most of this stuff goes on sale for $5 sometimes.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
I'm going to have more fun reading the thread when EA revokes the games than I will playing any of the games I got for free.

Pancakes

hot, steaming, as melted butter slips into the cracks, drizzled with sticky sweet syrup OH GOD
And it seems that nobody took Dragon Age 2. I hope EA can use these statistics in future. Nobody liked Dragon Age 2, even when it's free. And many people got Mirror's Edge and there isn't a sequel for it.
It's like EA trying to see which IP has more fans buy giving them free.

I took DA2 (I loved DA1 but after the shit mountain thread I refused to pay 60 bones for the game) but I can't remember where I stored my DA1 saves.

Ok so one of the games I picked up last night was Mirrors Edge. Holy shit! What a fun little game...I ended up playing it until about 6am I was that hooked. I completely missed this game when it released. It also looks phenomenal maxed out on my M17x.

What happened to your BF3 doesn't matter, since most of the games people "bought" this weekend is older stuff that can be played without Origin. Once you've downloaded e.g. Bulletstorm or Saboteur you don't need to open Origin another time.

Yeah i just loaded up Mirrors Edge also. I just got a new 7850 video card OC'd and it looks glorious maxed out. Its running at like 100 fps or something. Good lordy.

How did they take it away from you? Did it just disappear from your list? I got it through IGN as well but ive always kept the game in my library. Havent played it yet though.

Yeah it is honestly up in the air what they are going to do about this. I personally already had about 3-4 games on my account from older "glitched coupons" but nothing nearly as crazy as this. If you download and install these games (the majority, atleast) right now there is literally nothing EA can do about it. They have also already sent you the CD Keys for the games in the emails also, they would have to revoke every CD Key sent out in addition to disabling the games on your origin account (and even then that would not stop you from playing the single player if they were installed).

Also there is the fact that this coupon was intended to give you a free game (20$ and under) game anyway. If they wanted to honor that free game while also taking back the games gotten through the glitch it could get messy.

It is a total clusterfuck.

I got Simcity 4, Bulletstorm, saboteur, dead space 1 and Dead space 2, which of those don't require origin running (other than Bulletstorm and saboteur)?

I only got 3 games I cared about: NFS Hot Pursuit, Spore and Battlefield 2142. I already have ME series and the other EA games? I don't give two shits about 'em.

Congrats to those who got 15+ free games. xD

I only grabbed one game. Completed the survey, used my credit, then found out about this thread after the fact. There really wasn't much else I wanted from Origin anyway, tbh, but I'm going to be a bit irritated if they lump me together with the people who "bought" half the EA catalog and strip it from my library. :p

Yeah unless you paid for it they'll take away these games. They took away bf3 on the ign promo

BF3 actually needs Origin to run, doesn't it? These games don't, we all have them installed, we have the CD keys, and it's a bunch of different games. I'm not saying they won't take them away, but I think this is a far more difficult situation for them to fix. I can see them easily removing them from our accounts, so if we ever uninstall them we'll have no way to get them back. But, I don't know how the hell they'd uninstall them from my computer or make them stop working.

The most likely scenario of what EA will do is that they will let people keep the first game that people bought with the coupon and remove the rest.

Unless they blacklist the keys for future activations (I know Alice, Dead Space 2 and MoH do this), I'd be pretty impressed if they remotely killed the current installation of my already activated game. Guess that's why they ask you to log in with your EA account?

I doubt they will remove any games. Those are all EA games so their losses are minimal. The fact that so many Origin accounts were created in 2 single days and people that would otherwise not install their client are downloading the games is a victory for them.

The IGN BF3 were removed because it was a new game and people had not paid for it. However they did not cancel any Premium purchases made through the Indian store, if you recall.

Edit: I only wanted BF2142, BF2 and the Saboteur. Oh well, hopefully they'll screw up again soon.

Blarg.

What's this IGN promo you guys are talking about? Did they give the game away without permission or something?

IGN Prime gave away games and one of them was BF3. Being a trial member I got the game, installed it, played for some time. After some time I read that they removed BF3 from people's accounts. I checked mine and it was gone.

Plus part of the barrier to entry on any digital distro that isnt STEAM is that nobody uses them cause there is no investment. Someone with 30 game library now has a reason to feel like its worthwhile keeping the service around as opposed to someone who just had a single or no game on there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the person that made the "mistake" is actually promoted tomorrow. :p

Not every origin game requires origin running, so on most cases it would not promote origin itself.

Well, to me though even with that fact, having a single organized view of those games basically voids that for me. Plus origin isnt super bloated and seems to have a minimal interface so i dont feel like im running a hog.

The majority will still run their games through Origin (unless EA takes them away). Some won't know they don't have to and some just like having them organized in one spot with the cover art.

This. Since I started using Steam, I haven't used the desktop shortcuts for new games (I haven't added any non-Steam game yet, I should do that). I pin it to the taskbar, launch it and have all my games organized in a nice screen, so the same will happen now with Origin. The only thing I dislike about it is that the games are sorted in alphabetical order instead of release date, so some franchises have their games disorganized (I'm talking about you, Hitmans!).

It's still in Beta though. It used to be much more rough around the edges, but it got revamped a couple of months ago, now it's pretty slick aesthetically.

I wonder how time intensive it would be to revoke all our cdkeys. Also, some of these keys are handled by 3rd party DRM like Tages, so they would have to be involved too.

Who knows. We'll have to wait and see what EA does with the hand given to them.

Also vazel, I'm sorry but I must do this: "Who knows what evils lurk in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows...MWAHAHAHA!"
