would this be a good place to ask for troubleshooting help? for some reason my osx wallpaper turns on randomly, like while im using my macbook. i even have it set on "Never" but it turns on right in the middle of browsing the net. i figure it has to do with something i have installed, but i havent installed anything new recently. anybody heard of this? i have insomnia and caffeine, which i use all the time. one of those to the culprit?

Best to ask that in a different thread. What you're talking about is akin to hijacking the current thread.

Ok I just got my first mac. What is the best program to allow me to VNC into it? Right now I have the built in VNC working, but its VERY slow, which it shouldn't be over a wired network. Also I wasn't able to use Ultra VNC to connect (I'm using TightVNC right now and its working). There has to be some sweet program that is the best solution to this problem?

I'm using Vine, however not too thrilled with the rendering speed (dock auto hide kinda lags a little) but hey it's free so I don't mind.

Okay, I need another suggestion, and I know you guys will come through for me.

Lately, I've been spending a lot of time at libraries and coffee shops working. When I'm at home, I keep my computer fairly open (auto login, sharing on, stuff like that). But when I'm in public, I like to keep it completely locked down-I have my screensaver set to activate after five minutes with a password to deactivate it, auto login is turned off, all sharing is disabled. But it's a pain to set that up every time I go somewhere.

Does anybody have any tips or programs on how to manage this? Thanks in advance.

set up another user account with the desired privileges and use that account when using hotspots.

Not sure about the auto login or the sharing, but for the screensaver you can use LockTight or turn on the Keychain Access Status in the Menu Bar to make it a little bit easier to manage locking the screen. LockTight, is a system preference that lets you setup a screen lock hotkey (like Windows Key + L in Windows). After installing LockTight you can just disable the screensaver and use the LockTight hotkey to lock the computer. Or you can use the Keychain Access Status lock in the Menu Bar (Open Keychain Access -> Preferences -> Show Status in Menu Bar) and click on the lock and then Lock Screen whenever you want to lock it.

What's the cheapest way to get vmware fusion? I remember there being a site selling 1.0 with a free upgrade to 2.0 for like $40, but i cant find it anymore.

I exhausted my free trial and I like the program enough to buy it, but not quite $80 like
