Outriders is criminally underrated

The_Mike

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
The game was received as a mediocre games as far as I can remember, and while it always looked somewhat interesting I never really bothered buying the game.

Given I got game pass I went the game for a spin, and I really think this game is critically underrated.

This game should really be GaaS instead of just "this is everything you get", because it has fun and interesting combat to offer between weapons and skills.

The shooting feel just right, and the skills are pretty cool, at least as a pyromancer.

I could easily see this game easily top the shooter looter genre.

Does anyone agree on me, or are Gaf calling this game

The game play is quite good but the structure holds the game back a lot for me. It reminded me a lot of OG destiny in the fact it constantly stopped me from playing the game to go to town, watch a cutscene, feed my weapons to other weapons etc.

End game content is good in terms of game play but it lacks a real loop. However, I have not played it since the big endgame/rebalance.

It's is a fun game, I like playing it with friends, but, tbh, it is very, very repetitive (I'm almost finishing the game). Still, I recommend it.

How far are you in? I was thinking the same early on, by the time I finished the game I was so over it (especially knockdowns as a pyromancer). I played some of the endgame grind mode and was like nope this will take forever I'm gonna play serious sam 4 now.

I wouldn't have played it had it not been on Game Pass, and I'm glad I played it. Finished the story campaign and had a pretty damn decent time of it.

Haven't spent much time in the post-game stuff.

I tried it, played for 3-4 hours? and I just couldn't get into it.

It doesn't feel fun to me? its hard to explain. The gameplay def felt monotonous.

I wouldn't say its underrated, properly rated for most

I completed it with my friends.

There is a good game in there somewhere, some of the environments and the mechanics are excellent.

Saying that the number of groundbreaking bugs I found was ridiculous.

I got stuck on my devastator, in a clipping issue using his Dive half a dozen times in levels, every single time i had to restart the mission, once i lost 15 mins at the end of an expedition as i got stuck in a piece of the wall just before the final boss.

Some of the skill icons did not refresh, happened so many times for me and my friends, for a game where keeping track of your cooldowns is essential, this is beyond bad.

The end game systems suck, it's repetitive and boring, the amount of loading between levels is insane especially on a ps4 pro.. Mob diversity is terrible.

The game is a very decent loot shooter, i am looking forward to the expansion but no way about it, it's a very mixed bag with some really frustrating and repetitive missions.

The current video game journalism is a crystal generation .

Unfortunately, as a journalism, they will rate a game poorly even though it has many positive points.

Soon if it is on PC I will try it and it catches my attention.

As is the case with Terminator Resistance, so far it's a great game that has largely fallen into the ignorance of video game analysts.

It's definitely a mediocre game, but I did have fun with a buddy in coop (though most games are).

Also being completely broken at launch really didn't help its rep. Took me nearly a week to be able to play consistently.

It was pretty glitchy and broken at launch. Bugs like wiping your account, wiping your gear.
Yup, bad WOM right out of the gate didn't help. Plus a lot of people later complained about the "endgame" even though it was not designed as a GAAS and was never advertised as such

I had a lot of fun with it, the builds were all fun to play and the only big flaw was the timed endgame.

Some minor flaws like bugs, netcode problems at launch and not exactly nextgen graphic\animations or great level design.

I'm probably gonna do a new run when the expansion is gonna come out, i'm curious to see how they fixed the game since i stopped playing before the big upgrade patch.

The first 2-3 hours are the worst, that's probably why many people hated the demo and never tried the complete game.

I wouldn't say it is criminally underrated. It doesn't do a whole lot of things different in the looter-shooter space other than take the Bloodborne approach to combat. Honestly that's what makes it stand out more than anything else. Good build variety (well if you remove the Rounds abilitiy), good guns, wild mobs, flashy graphics: all that is pretty bog standard for looter-shootings outings.

It is on pc, kinda dirty cheap during sales or "free" on gamepass.

The game is pretty good. I'm glad it was on Game Pass or otherwise I would have never tried it. The story is shit, but great gameplay.

Game is on gamepass where I'm playing it atm.

Agreed. Outriders was an 8.5/10 and my 3rd best game of 2021. Great freaking game!! Looking forward to the Worldslayer expansion later this year!!

Story was fun and the gameplay itself (when you're fighting baddies) was pretty good and had good variety. The enemy variety was not that great, and by the time you get through the first few levels, you know exactly what you're going to be going up against for the entire rest of the game with only a few exceptions for bosses. The side quests were alright, but having to warp back to town to turn these in to get rewards that were usually gear that wasn't better than what you had was super disappointing. Just the whole "have to warp back to town to sell shit and turn in quests" aspect of this game was maddening at times. I played solo, but I'm assuming that multiplayer would amplify the bad parts of this game like having to wait on team members to go back to town and do shit before you can continue whomping.

Game was decent enough but was a 6.5/10 experience for me personally.

I finished it on GP and enjoyed it in short bursts. Its repetitive which kills any want for hours long fun at once. Liked the story though. Needs far more variety in enemies.

Played for the first time last night with a few friends and had a good time. We're pretty simple though and easily entertained, but still, it definitely scratches an itch. The gunplay and abilities are pretty satisfying and the it's not overly convoluted with currencies and systems (at least not early on).

It's also pretty generous and seems to respect your time - the transmog system for example, is probably the best I can recall seeing. No costs, no dismantling needed, if you picked it up, you can instantly have your gear look like it. We're older, more casual players and stuff like that is appreciated. Plus, the bite-sized missions are perfect for people like us who aren't interested in games that want to take over your life.

The cloud only saves, insane server issues, people losing all their gear etc and whatnot for a month after launch basically soured my experience of the game. As it is it was always a 6-7/10 game but the launch and the proceeding month really hurt the game.

I'm glad you like it but to me it's pure shit. gameplay is average and looks like early ps4 game. or maybe it was just beta that looked like that.
can't believe Colin Moriarty praised it and it's his GOTY if I'm not wrong

I was interested in the game but as soon as I heard it was online only, I was out.
How does it affect you if you play solo though? I've never seen any other player.

It's like playing borderlands etc. You only see other if you invite other people to your game.

Loved it. Had a proper story and really interesting weapon/ability mods. Combat felt really good. Can't wait for another content drop and outriders 2. Crossplay from day 1 was also a welcome bonus. The launch bugs and poor endgame loot drop rate really hurt the game though unfortunately.

Because the save is server side save so if my internet goes down and it does often, I'm screwed. Also if Square decides they want to take the game offline I won't be able to play it.

Really enjoyed the game when it was released. Wish it were a GaaS so I'd have a reason to keep playing.

A buddy and I blasted through the campaign when it came out and I can't say I agree at all.

We found everything abundantly mediocre, from shitty voice acting, terrible bugs, and a pretty bad story.

I actually like the game very much, problem I had was support and the strange end game during release.

A lot has changed, and looking forward to a second playthrough with another class.

Hope the DLC will add more to the story and campaign. Great potential.

Played the game cause of Game Pass. Was interested in it at launch but mostly because the demo was ok. I really love the times I play this game. It is really underrated. However, people need to know that the story is so bad... that it is good. Like there are so many things that are dead serious but are hilarious. My friends and I spend so much time laughing at the absurdity of things. While the combat and gameplay loop is solid. Something about smashing hoards of enemies with the guns and abilities is just so satisfying.

Opening the pods in the end game content is fun, and even just from the sheer amount of loot the game throws at you. Apparently the final expeditions have one that gives you an option between 3 legendaries. Can't wait to give that one a go.

It is solid mechanically and the customization of the loot system is pretty great. It's super generic otherwise and the last few bosses are a chore. It also does some really dumb shit like the seemingly random cutscene played when you mantle and obstacle.

Personally, the game bored me to tears and the gameplay felt unintuitive and clunky. Even flat out stupid at times.

Didnt it score mid 70s?
It def doesnt need to be a mid 80s game.
So id say its rated exactly where it needs to be.

I agree. I thought the game was a lot of fun, combat was great, and I really liked the story (I'm a sucker for SciFi).

I thoroughly enjoyed it and played through the end of the campaign. But I have no desire to go back and play endgame content.

Absolutely love the game…multiplayer. Boring playing solo.

Question: I feel like I'm geared well, good build, good mods, but when I play tier 15 expeditions, some people are just blowing though enemies like butter.

Any tips for a Texhnomancer?

It plays fine but there is a lot of great third-person shooters, it's a hard field.

That said, I had a hard time getting over whatever they tried to do with the story and the characters and some of the character models. It's so unbelievably bad and hard to accept and get over, it's repelling, it feels like swimming in the sewer.

It reminds me of Mass Effect Andromeda, whenever you go around talking to the dead lifeless husks of your crew, you just wanna turn off the game. Outriders is 3 times worse than that when it tries to do any sort of cutscene or story. Luckily the shooting is good enough to keep going, but anything but the shooting is a trash heap hate-inducing sort of game. I'm actually offended when playing it, no joke. I'm offended right now just thinking about it.

I wish I could agree with OP's post.

>Inventory wipe bug affected my character for 2 months.
Because of this I never finished the game, when it was corrected my want to continue the game was already burned out.
>Controls and character/NPC animation weren't great from my experience.
>Playing it solo was not fun.
>Story and missions were ok, mostly forgettable.

Weapons and Abilities were easily my favorite things about this game.

I had high hopes for this game, but it ended up disappointing me the more I played it.

It was better than anyone expected. I enjoyed completing it with a a friend and a couple of the terrible cut scenes had me rolling on the floor with laughter…..was worth every minute on game pass.

perfect game pass game.
