Overstrike- Insomniac's New IP

Completely disappointing, at least stylistically. :\

I'd heard rumors the style was supposed to be cartoony 60s-70s / retro spy-fi, and was pretty excited to see it. But now it looks like the midpoint between Brink and Resistance.

I suspect EA just focus-tested it to hell, and I think it's going to be really hard for the game to stand out now.

I was surprisingly interested in this. The characters and action are over-the-top and stylistic. It almost seems like it's Ratchet with humans.

Really? I thought grim "realistic" military shooters were the bee's knees now. Outside of Borderlands there hasn't really been a light shooter on consoles that has sold well. Well MGO, but tv advertising for MGS that was serious, didn't involve customizing your character with a crocodile head and using swimsuit mags as a trap.

That wasn't cartoony? It looked like The Incredibles meets Team Fortress to me.

Game looks really promising so far. I'm down with anything Insomniac does.
This. Really nice to see their sense of humour and love for bizarre weaponry in a more adult setting.

Not interested in a multiplayer shooter really, way to pick a genre Insomniac. Trailer does nothing for me, show gameplay please.

Yeah. First R&C: All 4 One and now another multi-player game. Why the hate for single player games all of a sudden? Is there really such a market for online-only games?

It's definitely the Sony first-party game I've enjoyed most this generation and I don't see what's so crazy about saying it. Great pacing, tons of content, nailed the fundamentals of the series and added some great working new mechanics. Looked great. Sounded great.

This statement could be applied to at least 5 games in their lineup if not more. I enjoyed it, but it can be argued that it's a tier below some of the other titles.

That said, it looks like that R2 co-op framework was put to good use.

Yes.

They alreayd release plenty of single player Ratchet games what is wrong with making a co-op one? This is their second game with a co-op focus.

That's why.
I whole heartedly agree, what a wonderful game.

I, for one, am super psyched about anything that Insomniac does. I've been a fan of Ratchet & Clank since the very first one, and the only one I didn't play was Size Matters. Never got into Resistance, but honestly I don't mind co-op games if they're done correctly. And I'm pretty sure Insomniac can do it correctly. We don't even know yet how the co-op's going to work in this one, so I'd wait before I pass judgment.

So, they dropped 4 player co-op in the Resistance franchise to spin it off into a new IP? Seems a bit lame.

Guns in that trailer don't seem to introduce any new ideas. I feel that IG has begun to lose the creative edge w.r.t gun design.

Is IG in a position to support multiple multiplayer games at one time? No release date is attached to this, so I suppose they can bank on R3 being dead or dying by time they need to step up support for this game.

I enjoyed Resistance 2 co-op and would love to see it expanded so I do have some hope for this game. But why would they show a CG trailer when they have already released 5 games this generation and are set to release the 6th this year? Their MP engine has not been especially robust this gen and they haven't released anything on 360 yet. I'll definitely need more media on this before I get enthusiastic.

I think I'm going to just play as the invisible chick and pretend it's a NOLF sequel.

Came in here to say, Game got a lot of the NOLF feel now if it has cool gadgets and funny writing then i'm in.

Insomniac's shtick of having "crazy" weapons lost it's appeal ages ago. The characters seem horrendously generic, but not in the exaggerated sense where it's intended to be funny and to poke fun at them. Instead, they're...well...generically generic. Just boring and not interesting. Also, the name and logo makes think about Nerf guns. Change it.

Like other's have said, it's a Ratchet game for adults. No thanks. I've had my fair share of Ratchet games almost every single year since 2002. Pass.

Next.

The trailer was pretty well done! Really looking forward to this one.

It's a shame you didn't play Crack in Time, it's one of the best games on the PS3.

Actually, I played and completed Crack in Time (as well as Tools of Destruction). I played, but never beat Quest for Booty. They were fun, had few new features, but were all too much like the others. If it ain't broke don't fix it, but damn, don't release the same game (almost) every year (PS3 had longer cycles because of Resistance)

I don't get GAF's love for Insomniac. Talented team, yes. Without at doubt. But their games are okay at best and vastly overrated here.

Didn't expect to enjoy that trailer so much. PC version would be a lock for me but I might grab it anyway if it looks good closer to release. I get a real NOLF vs Pixar vibe from it. That's a good thing.

I thought the hover boots in Crack in Time were the best innovation to 3D platformers in years.

Different strokes. ;)

Loving the art style for the game, and I could definitely take a non serious shooter. The thief character reminds me of Cate Archer from NOLF.

We could use another game like NOLF on the market. Light hearted and not take itself too seriously!

i thought Gearbox's Furious 4 looked more interesting than Overstrike. They may end up being completely separate genres, but the trailers made them appear similar. Insomniac hasn't impressed me much yet. They're consistently in the B category; however, i think i recall them saying something about extending development times, so this may allow them to compete more.

Got a TF2 vibe watching, but digging that style overall. Was hoping for something else entirely, but maybe it turns out good enough to interest me

I thought the animation was kinda PS2 looking. Hopefully gameplay looks better.
So where have you seen gameplay of Overstrike, and which parts were "PS2 looking"?

First time I've heard someone claim a cinematic looked like a PS2 game.

I'm talking about the cinematic. It didn't look very good for a new game. I'm obviously not talking about gameplay.

Was a little bit disappointed by another shooter announcement but the trailer makes it. I like the style and it seems quite funny. Go for it Insomniac Games!

Just watched the trailer as I wait for the Sony conf to start.

First off: it's not like Operation: Winback like I imagined :(

But that doesn't matter, because it's reminiscent of a secret agent Ratchet meets The Incredibles, which is even better. I really like its style.

Really liked this trailer. Art looked very "Incredibles" to me. It even had the growing metallic balls!

Came in to say this.

I like the direction. I love 50% of Insomniac's franchises and dislike the other 50%, so I'm hoping this will be on the "omg yes" half.

*edit* I feel stupid saying this about a cinematic trailer, but kind of my game of the show thus far.
