Overwatch |OT5| 15 Million Strong, None Are On The Payload

Fuck people in comp that don't pick support if there is need for one. I always pick Zenyatta now just to take the gold elimination crown from the other useless DPS players just to throw it to their faces and they get embarrased.

I've done that multiple times as Zenn, it's always hilarious.

I almost never go into games with double healers even in competitive. It's always 3 DPS, 2 tanks and a healer. I'd include Junkrat/Mei as "DPS". It doesnt do too badly because I feel like an extra DPS in console is okay because being a healer in a DPS-centric meta is terrifying and sometimes puts you at a disadvantage. That's why I feel like Zenyatta is just a must pick as he acts as DPS and healing.

Zenn is almost always an appreciated pick, unless the Zenn player doesn't know how to time ult.

On the other hand, I had a Zenn who called out a flanking reaper, ulted when he ulted, and we held the point EZ. I wanted to kiss them.

Zenyatta can easily have a golden in damage and elimination because of how powerful discord is.

Yep yep.

I need people to learn that Zenyatta can only heal one person at a time (except for ult).

It's also the reason why a solo healer Zen doesn't work. I had my orb on an almost dead Reinhardt, who was projected by his shield, and I got 3 others screaming for healing in the meantime.

Exactly. He's like Zarya or Mei, a hybrid class of sorts. Can do multiple things, but only to a certain extent.

It shouldn't be that easy to use someone's ult against them

Just play Zarya! Melt them with the undeflectable lazer.

Speaking of Zarya, I am now about both my calibration MMR and my previous peak MMR.

2472, I can feel that Platinum. I can SMELL it.

I had a really good game with someone I played a match with earlier in the day and then this Winston / Lucio stack that just worked great with my Zarya.

They then invited me to a group and we played a few more games. I was one win away from Plat and we load in.

4 plat, 1 DIAMOND, 1 gold on the enemy team.

One attack Torb on our team. On Hollywood.

We lost, but barely. Torb refused to switch. Diamond was a P R O G E N J I.

I got a lot of pick offs and we pushed well, but their tracer was just all over us. I think if we had a mei / junkrat / reaper instead of torb we would've been fine, but no.

So I had to end the night not platinum. Gonna get it today.

I am waiting for a call pro teams. I main support, but I can flex.
My PS4 account after playing for the first time. lol

Had a match last night on Numbani where just about everybody on the team died except our Zen. I had pretty much given up on holding the point and was preparing for fighting them for the payload as I ran back, but then I notice... wait, Zen is still alive. How the hell is he still alive? I don't think he even used his ult either; somehow he just managed to hold the point all on his own against the enemy team. I think just about everybody voted for him after the match ended, even some of the enemy team, because holy shit, a Zenyatta holding the point all by himself deserves mad props.

Man, not that it matters, but the way hero wins are given in overbuff kinda bums me out in a way. Because I almost never stick to the same hero both rounds. Like had a comp game in kings row. Attacking first, I have zen discording the shit out of everyone, we go all the way. Then on defense I go mei and make sure that they never even make it past the first point, but the W goes to my zen.

Had a fun run of comp with zen though. Was kinda out of sorts with him starting this season but I'm getting where I need to be with him. I think me learning when to use right click is paying dividends.

Also in regards to zen I felt like I was getting too spammy just holding down left click. Tapping it really seems to help me concentrate on hitting the target.

Though of course you always spam at chokepoints when the enemy is approaching. Right click does wonders.

Like seriously, 200HP with 150 of those as shields makes him super survivable. Which is why I predicted that he would not drop out much from the meta even with discord nerf, because he's still basically a DPS that is really survivable with a still amazing toolkit.

I'm enjoying competitive when it's a great back and forth fight but I keep coming across the most toxic players. There really needs to be an option to "Ignore" and never have to play with them on the same team again.

Yeah I mute / block a lot of people.

I kind of hope it means it tries to not match me up with them again but eh, it still happens.

I usually play genji on comp, so black holes are almost never a problem for me, this is just a general observation I've had. And I think my reasons are valid.
You can outplay almost every other offensive ult in the game using your skill, but not with zarya ult.
They should make the black hole have less visual clutter so you can actually see and aim while in it, it should have a delay to it so that heroes without mobility can predict it, and zarya in turn outplay their predictions as well etc.

Zarya's ult can easily be countered by Transcendence or a Rein shield, or even by a D.Va's DM, and mostly by Lucio's Sound Barrier. I swear people just start screaming for nerfs the second they get killed by something one time too many times. The ult is fine. The buildup takes a while. Nobody else is really complaining about it. Get better teams who can learn to expect/counter it. It's pretty predictable that if the enemy team has a Zarya, they are just waiting for her Graviton Surge to combo, if they're even mildly competent.

What a fucking dick.

This guy on PSN named Vyntus...

He starts off Widow. Teammates are giving him shit, I stand up for him, give the usual "If he's good, great, if he sucks, as long as he knows to switch, it's fine."

He sucks.

He switches to Hanzo.

We're trying to compensate so we start doing some team shuffling. I'm not doing great as Tracer, and our 76 isn't doing great either. 76 tells me he's going to switch to McCree so that I can switch to 76.

McCree dies. Widow/Hanzo player switches to 76 and just sits in the point for the rest of the round.

Like, what the fuck even is that?

I even asked what the hell? I'm the one guy who actually stood up for your decision to begin with and wasn't a dick to you, so you repay me by grabing my character and squating in the spawn room?

Taking a break for an hour or so.

I watched the second round. That sucks. I just got on too. I'll warm up with some QP then.

I'll be streaming some competitive PSN play for a while:

https://www.twitch.tv/kor_of_memory

Characters I normally play as include:

Pharah
76
Roadhog
Zarya
Zenyatta

Currently ranked 3292 (Was top 500 in Season 1)

Was just watching the last few you did. That last one was a hearbreaker, your team didn't do anything about that reaper/genji running wild even when you were calling it out. And naturally the Widow wasn't in the team chat at all, lol.

I'm free most of the day so I'd be down to queue if you're on again.

Seriously, I would love that. My worst experience so far was a game in Nepal where I was playing together with Joninder, we had another duo on our team and one of them picked Lucio in the 1st round. So far so good, but after that 1st round the Lucio changed to Reaper and then that duo started meleeing me telling me to change to healer (I was playing Tracer with gold on eliminations/damage). I did, and things got way worse on the next rounds, since our team composition wasn't exactly ideal. I changed back to Tracer on the last round, and surprise, no one picked Lucio. Instead one of them changed to Hanzo, f*cking imbecile.

You're still running into players like that at your SR range? That really sucks man.

SoloQ gods have been mad at me last night. 5 loses in a row with mostly toxic players thrashing each other at the first wipe. Hope tonight will be better.

You're still running into players like that at your SR range? That really sucks man.

I only saw a game (KOTH Nepal), full with diamonds and a master... a dude on his team changed from Widowmaker to Hanzo and finally Torbjorn. He also had a Reinhardt on his team. On the other side there was a Bastion... war never changes.

You're still running into players like that at your SR range? That really sucks man.

I mean, it's probably the first time it's happened in the 500ish comp games I've played. So I don't think it's really normal or anything.

Of course, you guys say people don't normally talk, and I'd say I'm averaging 3-4 players on a mic during my games as well.

Overwatch GAF! I enjoyed the free weekend and might take the dive, but I got a couple questions:

On PS4, whenever I finished a match I would be put into the start of another and then booted out after a few seconds. Like every damn time. Is matchmaking busted or was this a free weekend quirk?

Team based multiplayer anything is not my genre of choice. I feel "competitive" play boils down to people using a small handful of characters on a map or two, perfecting a single strategy ad fucking infinitum. I see absolutely no joy in this style of gaming. Is this what happens past level 10 or do you see people playing a good variety of characters/maps, etc?? Is there room for more fun/casual play?

Also, there's gotta be a quick way to mute everyone's mic, no? Listening to people just think out loud and say random shit is incredibly annoying.

For anyone complaining about bad players, remember platinum (where I am) is mediocre or below. That's the 50-59 range last season. I never even got over rank 54 last season, and I'm 2700+ platinum.

Unless you're in diamond-master, everyone should be average skill or lower, or at least that's my current theory. It's a bit disorienting since I thought most games put the average cutoff at silver or gold instead.

if I take 10 min breaks between matches do y'all think I will miss KotH maps in the rotation? LOL KotH maps are where I seem to have THE WORST luck w/ groups. I could be on a 3-4 escort/assault/hybrid map win streak and then a control map will roll around and my team just can't seem to get it together. T__T

i wish you could filter modes, tbh!

i'm hoping SoloQ Gawds have decided to smile upon me. First match of the day on Numbani = win. Whew!

Quickplay and the Weekly Brawl have a continuous queue. You should be put straight into the next game, but make sure you react once you get in there. Blizzard really doesn't leave much room for AFKers. Like, I can barely squeeze in a pee break between games.

Competitive requires you to manually queue up for every individual game, so when a game is over, you're thrown back to the home screen to do whatever it is you want to do.

I'm not sure why you were getting kicked, unless you happened to be thrown into a match that was already in progress and they really wanted to make sure you weren't AFK.

If you were kicked while you were being active, or had selected a player, I'd check your NAT settings. You should be set to 1 or 2. If you're at a Type 3, you need to do some router/modem config.

We're talking about a Diamond player specifically. Which puts him somewhere between 60-68 from last season.

That said, your numbers aren't right. Well, the numbers are, but where you are placing average isn't.

Jeff Kaplan said before the bulk of Overwatch players fell between Rank 44 and 56 for Season 1. Which means Average is pretty much were you would think it is at 2500 (out of 5000).

So while yes, a Platinum player could be average, by the time you're seeing Diamonds mix in regularly, these should be players who would have been in their 60s or higher for Season 1, and as Kaplan said, "Are incredibly good Overwatch players."

had a similar experience w/ a platinum guy named 'Larry_' something on Ilios - dood goes McCree, and keeps dying. Another guy is Hanzo, he keeps dying as well. Someone jumps on chat and (rather rudely, tbh) tells them they suck at those characters and should switch off. The Hanzo guy does, but the Larry guys does not... we lose 2 matches in a row, and then Larry changes to Winston and seems to be fairly capable as the character... We go on to win that match. Next round? He switches back to McCree... the only thing I could think is that he was trolling hardcore. -__-

Right? He had some consistent games with people on the mic.

Though, in case you haven't done it yet, change both chat options to Auto-Join. "On" doesn't do shit, from what I can tell.
I only ever get toxic people. Though it's nice when you shut them up midsentence with a quad pulse bomb. 😋

How active is OW Xbone GAF? I'm about to message thoseAREmySHOES but I don't have the Preview so idk if I can join the group. I'm pretty trash at this game (placed at 1800, currently at 1375...lmao) but I want to get better. Getting a good team on this game is an amazing feeling at this level as even a modicum of coordination in approaching points and in ult stacking can wreck. If anyone else is in the salt mines I'd be glad to party up :) J58P4 is my tag.

Comfortable with Mercy, Lucio, Rein, Zarya, Junkrat, Hanzo, Soldier 76, Tracer.

You should read the posts you respond to better next time.

We were commenting on how you can't use your personal skill to counter the Zarya ult, which means without using a support ult.

And how low of you to imply I'm just a salty person who can't handle dying to zarya ults so many times. A bad comment replacing a proper argument

did is say 'reinstancing' at the top of the screen? I think that means the server crashed and peeps had to be moved to a new server? Was the game still actively searching or did you have to manually choose to play again?

also, I think to turn of chat volume down/off going into options > sound.

So I'm new at this, having just got the game after the free PSN weekend.

Are there only two game modes? Well... two and a half I guess: defend, payload, defend+payload. No CTF? No domination-esc zones? No elimination mode? I realize it's not CoD it's just kind of odd that there are just the two modes.

And is the map rotation always kinda off or is it just me? I played for about 9 hours on the weekend and this morning I saw a map I hadn't seen before (the Japanese arcade one). Basically it's Hollywood or Route 66 50% of the time it feels like.

Also not new I know but wtf is up with people being super rigid with their character? New dude joins as Mercy.... except we already had one.

Any tips on using Pharah's special? If I use it too high I don't kill anything and if I use it too close I almost always get shot down.

It's important to prioritize your first target when using it. When possible, always target any hitscan enemies (Soldier, McCree, and Widowmaker) first, along with Roadhog who can hook you out of the air. Also, try to get into a flanking position before using it, because half the battle of an effective Pharah ult is having at least a second before the enemy team even realizes where it's coming from. Otherwise, they can focus-fire you and knock you right out of the sky. Also, if your team has a Zarya or Mei, try your best to synergize your ults together, as Pharah's ult is a monster when the team is all clumped up and can't do anything to respond.
