Owlboy |OT| It's A Real Hoot!

Ugh, I just got home, got an e-mail from Steam Owlboy is up, but my Humble Bundle page still only lists the Owlboy Soundtrack Sampler.

I'm hoping that
A. Key goes up soon and
B. That sampler turns into the full thing. They said on the Steam forums that while you couldn't preorder from Steam "preordering from Humble gets you a 10% discount and the soundtrack".

Fuck it, bought the physical edition! That cover art made me weak!

Bought this yesterday too, after waiting this long I figured it be nice to have something nice like a boxed copy even if it means I have to wait a few more weeks

Anyone know if the physical version comes with the full digital soundtrack? Also do we get the keys early if so? I don't mind waiting, was just curious. Couldn't ignore the physical edition!

Someone on the Steam forums mentioned that they got their Humble key. Don't hurt me if they're lying.

Had no idea about this game until today. Looks super cool.

It's been torturing me for years watching it get developed. I swear I've followed it far too closely for about 3-4 years.

I'm all in!

Uh oh. Getting some hard stutters and frameskipping.

Hmm. Might be just the intro. It's gone now...but I haven't flown again yet. That's when the stutters were happening.

Edit 2. Seems just fine now that I'm actually past the intro. Would've been so disappointing

I had considered myself somewhat informed on the indie side of things but admittedly hadn't heard of this up until a couple months ago. Looking forward to reading some more impressions in here and then I might pick it up this weekend.

Don't often get games on PC, but I've been aware of the development of this game for quite a while due to pixelart stuff. Hope it turned out as good as it looks!

I get big Wind Waker wibes from this game, not sure why. Maybe because of the artstyle or the characters or something, but I like what I see. Not going to buy the game probably, but nice to see the game finally done.

I'm an hour in and it's very very much like Wind Waker. Definitely influenced by it id imagine.

Completed the first stage, pretty great so far. I'm not getting any framerate issues btw, it's been smooth.

The soundtrack is fantastic too.

Was just getting into the swing of things and then my blasted brother needs to swipe the controller I'm using for the laptop so he can watch a dvd on the 360, see this is what happens when you let the man bust all the wireless controllers playing FIFA.
Ah well I'll get back on it later, so far i'm impressed by the sheer detail.

Ever since I first saw it years ago I got the same vibe.
I can't recall character names yet but just glancing at the art in the opening post you've got the elder owl looking like a Rito and the chap with the blaster in particular just screams WW style NPC, it's cool.

I honestly,
literally
, never heard of this game until earlier this year.

Watching a livestream now to fix this.

Amazing to know, however, that a handfull of these games that have been long in development is finally releasing or have been released.

The game looks interesting and I'm happy to see it released after so many years and devs getting recognized for their job. The pixel art is probably the best I saw so far on PC.
I will pick it up later for sure.

So I finished the first cave, but only after realized that there are coins to collect, am I screwed if I don't get them all in one go? I tried going back to the cave but I can't find a way back to some areas.

I've played about an hour, got to (spoiler for location)
the Owl Temple, which I have done a fair amount of so far
.

It's good fun so far.

The art is beautiful and charming (although the music, while nice, seems to move between chip-tune stuff and more sophisticated instrumentation), which really is what makes it; one of the reviews cites a particularly well animated minor character that made me smile. The story seems simple enough but the dialogue is decently written and none of the cutscenes last too long (I rather feel that the reviews have overblown the impact of the opening which, although a little surprising, is then almost immediately negated).

My first point of comparison would be Zelda, but mostly because I tend to compare all adventures-with-puzzley-dungeons to Zelda; it's not a keys-and-unique-items-fest like, say, Darksiders. The puzzles are relatively braindead at this stage but add a bit of variety; the first boss was more Megaman than anything else!

Anyway, it's enjoyable and well made; I couldn't ask for much more as yet!

Any impressions? I'm on the fence

It's my GOTY. The dungeons are great and D-Pad is especially smart with new concepts and exploring them to the limit. When something is even showing hints of becoming tiring, they change up the game. I loved all of them (dungeons)

The story is amazing, too. It's quite simple, tbh, but the dialogues are really well written, the animations of all the characters ooze charisma and tha really makes you invested in them, cheering them on in all they do. Some great arcs there, too (especially twig's <3)

The visuals and soundtrack don't even need me to tell anything, right? :P

Any indication as to how long it is yet?

Between 8 and 10 hours, quite a bit more if you're a completionist

Has anyone with a 1920x1200 (16:10) monitor been able to get pixel perfect square pixels? I get this (200% nearest neighbour, lossless):

The ingame Letterboxing option doesn't help, neither did setting my display to 1920x1080. My GPU scaling options are set to this, but I've tried other combinations that didn't help.

Anyone know if people who bought the physical edition get to play the game now or have to wait? I tweeted D-Pad but haven't gotten a response yet. I guess they're still sorting keys through people who bought it from Humble.

just beat the owl temple. loving it so far. Great music, great graphics, lots of mix-ups with the gameplay and new stuff constantly. Really excellent.

I really love it so far. It feels really satisfying to control, and the way your moves/shots interact with the plants/ground/trees is a small detail, but it adds a lot. Hits are crunchy and solid. Small details are really meaningful:
small hint/spoiler
Watch the flies around plants, they're not there just for decoration!

further
when you shoot the plants flies are hovering around, they move to another plant. Keep doing this, and they move through any secret walls in the area.

I found this attention to detail speaks highly of the promise of the game.

Oh man, this has interactive music. Instrumentation is added when you fly and drops back out when you land. I love that stuff.

So how's this game? Looks amazing, but I fear the awesome art direction may have taken precedent to the gameplay

it doesn't, thankfully they seem to have had good designers, probably different people from those doing the art but on small projects like this I don't know enough about the team to say for sure. The gameplay is very well designed.
