Borderlands 4 |OT| It's about time. Literally.

Just hit lv 50 and I'll stop here until the story DLC starts coming out.
While grinding to max level I had a chance to go around doing all of the bunkers, drill sites, etc... on the world map and also got some very cool legendary gear.
I really enjoyed BL4 and the series absolutely has a bright future. I'm really looking forward to the DLCs since I really enjoyed both of the DLC episodes that I bought for BL3.
Vex is a beast at max level with all of the reapers flying around. She's my favorite Siren to play in the franchise so far.

This is Borderlands... the game just started when you hit 50.

Did somebody link me to a guide or a curated list of all the ini settings you can adjust? I did the fog one and liked what it did but just curious to see if there's anything else. I also followed a great guy that was posted earlier and literally gained 15 frames on average just from small little tweaks that have little to no visual performance difference.

Yeah, it's just rippers, order or animals. Or a combination of these.

Yeah, man. The game is huge and actually feels quite long. I've played almost 20 hours and I'm only at about 35% of the campaign. In my opinion, they should have added more enemy types so it doesn't become too repetitive or predictable. I do like the different biomes, though, the developers did a great job there. I'm still enjoying it overall, but I think leaving out more enemy variety was a big oversight for such a big game.

I was a huge fan of the franchise but lament the 'woke' elements introduced in the previous entry. How are things this time round? Is everyone still gay or is this more like Borderlands 1 or 2? Also, the humour was dreadful in the past game... as if the devs were terrified they might offend someone. Has that be remedied? Lay it on me.
You have a trans\they character in the first couple of hours and i'm pretty sure i did a sidequest where the umm core of a missile identify herself as they but maybe i heard wrong, it was late in the night...

Other than that, not much woke stuff.

i ll tell that atm i think BL3 is better than 4, even with the worse writing and i think the open world was a huge mistake imo.
What would you say it's better in bl3 other than ost and not being open world?

Just a question, i don't remember bl3 enough to disagree.

These are the things that BL3 does better than BL4, all based on my opinion.

- Gunplay feels better ( sound design, gun recoil, secondary modes )
- Way more enemies variety
- Funnier weapon and better variety ( RIP Atlas )
- Characters felt more interesting, Vex, Rafa, Amon and Horlowe feel kind generic to me with almost the same personality.
- Ost
- Open Zones

Also they tuned down enemies banter too much, Borderlands 3 felt like there was someone screaming something every time, this one feels almost dead some times.

Yeah the enemies have less banter but i had one screaming "i just wanted a nipple" after i killed him that made me chuckle out loud :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Does anyone else feel like mouse input is broken in this game? Turn with an analog stick - it is completely smooth. Turn with a mouse - it is jittery. The issue gets worse the higher the in-game sensitivity is, and is more noticeable with Frame Gen turned off.

Gamebreaking weapon.

Still using this at level 16
Side note : this screenshot burned my retinas, I had no idea you could upload HDR images to NeoGaf 🤯

My initial impressions after 15 hours are very possitive. At first, I didn't think I would enjoy this game so much because the performance wasn't good and the aiming felt just sluggish (both on gamepad, or mouse). However, once the game had finished pre-compiling the shaders in the background, the frame rate doubled and the game started to run well on my PC. I also used the recommended settings for the gamepad that people shared in this thread (lowering the dead zones and increasing the movement speed) and for the mouse and keyboard (disabling mouse acceleration in configuration file). The game became an absolute joy to play! The shooting in this game is so satisfying, and the new movement mechanics make combat even more dynamic.

I'm also impressed with the graphics. Before playing borderlands 4, I watched some YouTube gameplay videos and thought that previous game looked comparable, but when I finally played the game on my OLED monitor in HDR I realized how wrong I was. The levels are MUCH bigger now, and I no longer feel like I'm walking through a big tunnel with grass in the middle. The sense of scale in Borderlands 4 is on a totally different level. The game also renders insane amounts of grass wherever you look. I didn't think Borderlands would benefit much from real-time lighting because the graphics novel art style is supposed to be flat, but I love the results. Thanks to UE5 lighting, this game looks like a living concept art! The lighting is incredible, and I can't stop admiring the way the sun illuminates the scene throughout TOD. Volumetric lighting in this game cast real time shadows and results look more impressive than manually placed volumetric lighting in other games (for example R&C rift apart).

7800X3D, RTX4080S, 1440p DLSSQ+FGx2. Some screenshots show badass settings, some high settings.

The water in this game is so pleasing to look at and I don't even know why.

Even if the scenery is simple, such as boxes on the screenshot below, Lumen makes that scene pleasing to look at. The objects are well grounded into the scene and look realistic even though the game use graphics novel art style.

Borderlands is fun and amazing looking game but I can only recommend it if you have a decent PC, because it has very high requirements. If I were to play this game on minimum specs like most Steam users, my impressions wouldn't be good. Gearbox recommends at least an RTX3080 to achieve 60 fps at 1440p with DLSS.

Here's how the game runs on my PC without.

I'm having a blast playing this one! Better than BL3 for sure!
IMO it's better then all of them. Feels like a culmination of every Borderlands. It feels very Borderlands 1. Great atmosphere and exploration. And the campaign has some nice pacing and build up to their big boss fights. It's premature to give a full judgment until I complete the campaign myself but the lead in to fighting Idolator Sol was really good.

The gameplay systems I feel are the best part of the game though. A lot of things were touched on such as mobility, how the parts system changes how guns play and how different vehicles can be with the different hover drives.

The game to me in regards to the Glide system and how you can air dash in any of the 4 directions gives it a very Megaman kind of feel to me.

And Legendaries really are Legendary. And some guns, even Greens are more valuable then higher tiers all based on rolling on good part combinations.

I really like one of the Torgue Shotguns with a Flame Blast Alt Fire. Which is a fire laser beam that melts enemies.

I booted up Borderlands 1 for the first time in at least 10 years and yep, BL4 just sucks. BL1 is such a better experience to me it's actually shocking.

- The menus are fast and responsive instead of bogged down by pointless animations.
- The game has separate sensitivity for analog sticks and mouse, so you can use mixed input with gyro aiming. How have we regressed on simple things like this? In what world should the sensitivity for two completely different input options be the same?
- The core mechanics, aiming and shooting, feel much more satisfying and responsive, especially when comparing to BL4 with Frame Gen (who thought that was a good idea).
- Pretty much every gun you pick up is fun to shoot, compared to in BL4 where more often than not you get alien/sci-fi weapons, which Gearbox has completely failed to make satisfying.
- The characters and writing are both way more enjoyable and way less in your face. The amount of time BL4 asks you to spend waiting listening to characters talk (I'm looking at you Zadra) when those characters are extremely boring and cringey is just abysmal.
- The tone of the humorous, but somber wasteland has been completely lost in BL4.

When people say "modern gaming sucks" (even though that is not true and there are great games coming out all the time), they should think of Borderlands 4. It's a game that is completely bogged down by modern trends/technologies and forgot what made the series great to begin with.

Loving it.

30 hours in. Just bowling round the map, doing quests, getting loot.

The perfect casual FPS.

game is Borderlands good, i still think open world was a mistake, gunplay is better on BL3, Vault Hunter were more interesting to play on 3 too, Story/Writing is better on 4, if 3 didnt had awful story/writing would be a better game without a doubt.

I see, sorry for bothering you :messenger_grinning_sweat:, i was just curious about a veterans opinion on the game.

Someone here mentioned configurations for controller options (deadzones, sensitivity, etc) that made the game much more enjoyable. Is there a post? Can't seem to find it.

I like zooming on the bike. So much more maneuverability then the old vehicles. And Open World works here because of Vault Keys. It's very similar getting access to Oblivion Portals in Turok 2 to me. It would be perfect if Borderlands did a thing where each Vault had a piece of a Ultimate weapon you work for and have to build by clearing every Vault in the game.

Similar to the Ultimate Weapons in Turok 1-3.

All the talk of technical issues had been keeping me away from this one, but I just bought it on Steam to give it a 2-hour trial run and so far, so good. I got through the "tutorial" mission and (obvious spoiler)
just met Claptrap on the beach.
I've been doing some running around there, and it's sitting around 100-110 FPS on 1440p with DLSS Balanced with Frame Gen, on mostly High settings (on an i7-12700 and 4070 Super) with only a small amount of (tolerable) stuttering. Does the game get significantly more demanding later, or is this a pretty good indication of how things will run throughout (unpredictable crashes aside)?

I've had few crashes (6 or 7).

Game crashed a few hours ago.(first crash since first patch) Upon booting it back up, my save game was gone. I had to go into the folder and rename the save.tmp file.

Fucking hell.

edit: The game is a lot of fun.

Game seems fun, but my main complaint is I can't fucking play more than 10 min without crashing on a 5090FE/9800X3D. The patch from the other day did absolutely nothing for me in minimizing them. All Unreal Engine crash to desktop. I always send and close the reports too but if anyone has found a method that helped get rid of the crashing please let me know. I tried increasing the shader cache in the NV control panel but the game crashed when loading in lol so that didn't help.

Performance is much better than expected. I'm getting a pretty stable 100fps+ on an RX6750. Sure there's the occasional drop or stutter but I was expecting much worse.

5090FE/9800X3D users, did the patch fix the annoying Unreal Engine crashes that happened constantly?

Change lighting to medium - Anything above that and it's a crash fest on my 5090 / 9800x3d
