Owlboy |OT| It's A Real Hoot!

I love it so far, finished the owl temple. Music is absolutely brilliant, the atmosphere is bright and vibrant, characters charming!

Control setup is a bit jiffy, not 100% satisfied playing it on the steam controller, will try with the wii u pro (360) next time. Any tips for setting up steam controller? Can't get the overlay up.

Just finished the first owl cave as well. Excellent pixel art & sound side. Was amused
picking up the shield of the boss and having him trying to retrieve it.

Using the DualShock 4 with the official dongle.
Had to use Inputmapper as the Steam Big Picture controller setup was just confusing. Inputmapper simply translates DS4 to natural xinput which Owlboy picks up.

Using the DS4 controller. Controls are perfect, the gameplay doesn't feel tedious thanks to the special button you get after the first dungeon.

And there are very little owl puns. I'm hurt by this.

Just got to Advent. The game is really fun so far! Movement without dash was a pain in the ass though, so I'm glad you pick that up early. Combat can be pretty engaging as well - I really like the enemies that you have to spin attack first before you can shoot the target on their stomachs. Boss fights have been solid so far for the most part. The
robot frog
at the end of the Owl Temple had my heart racing a bit.

Oh and can anyone tell me what species the second partner
Alphonse
is?
Is he a robot? A dog? A human?
I just can't figure it out from the sprite.

I've played about two hours and I think I'm going to stop now. Just finished the Owl Temple and I don't want to rush through the game.

I'm absolutely gutted this is PC only, I don't have a computer at home but have all the consoles, I'll take it on any of them!

Been following this for a very long time, I remember it being shown on 360 at one point, console port off the table? Seems silly for MS to drop this one.

Entered the dreadnought, I think that'll do for tonight.
The Owl Temple had a whiff of Zelda/Shantae/Monster World Dungeon about it which was cool, wasn't expecting these sort of areas.

And for a game that on paper looks like "fly around with a dangling shooter guy" it's had a nice bit of variety so far.

Paid for this at Humble Bundle. Now it's just waiting for it to unlock.

With this out I think that largely just leaves The Iconoclasts and Miegakure as the remaining indies that have been in development forever (6 and 7 years, respectively) that are still getting updates and expected to still actually release.

Definitely looking forward to playing Owlboy but I've willfully ignored most everything about it for years to go in blind. I don't really know how it plays at this point and I couldn't be happier.

I still believe in Gorogoa!

Just got to the owl temple and I'm loving it so far. I only just played the demo yesterday and thought the controls were meh, dialogue was meh. Going from that to this a day later is awesome. This controls a lot better, there seems to be a ton of little improvements in controls. Dialogue is actually enjoyable and at times humorous. Gonna get back to it for another hour or so.

I have no info but I'm sure it'll come to consoles eventually. They already programmed in the PS4 inputs as well(which I know are supported on Steam, but still).

Anyone know how to transfer saves? I guessed the /owlboy/content/saves folder but it doesn't seem like it worked for me. Maybe it hadnt saved yet? (I quit right after the intro cutscenes)

Looks like %userprofile%\Saved Games\Owlboy

(just paste that into an Explorer window or into the Run window)

Just finished the game in 8 hours. It's great!

I wish there was an ingame map, though. And fewer stealth sections.

Also, gamepad controls feel a bit "off". I feel it would be better if holding up before pressing jump launched you straight into flying. And also, due to a late-section segment, I really hope they remove that "jump" is the same button as "cancel flying".

Removing the ability to start flying by pressing up would probably help with the controls. It would be a lot harder to accidentally fly (or stop flying).

Owlboy was started on XNA, so naturally it was on 360 and PC at one point. Once XNA (and 360) is dead, they continued for PC.

For indie developers like them, the only reason the game is not on all platforms available is usually time and budget. Pretty sure they want this to be available everywhere.

Thanks for the generosity. Installing now...this will not go into any backlog

I was waiting to see who won before I bought it, congrats!

Also stuck at a fucking part. where its a laser aiming at me, and rocks break, and I keep going ahead. Sometimes I get at the thing shooting me and I die, most the time I just die.

I couldn't resist buying this game, backlog be damned. I'am about an hour in and I absolutely love it, getting strong Shantae vibes from how the story unfolds.

Would my toaster 2011 MacBook Pro be able to manage this in Parallels/Bootcamp?

OS: Windows 7/8/10/Vista
Processor: Dual Core
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: Pixelshader 3.0 enabled graphics card
DirectX: Version 9.0
Storage: 600 MB available space
Additional Notes: Requires installation of Windows Media Player

im gonna guess you'll be fine, always the refunds in case it dont though, such a nice feature.

Really looking forward to playing this. Hadn't ever heard of it until Dunkey mentioned it in one of his videos, but it looks like exactly my sort of thing.

Somehow I hadn't heard of this, although I guess it makes sense as I've mostly been console gaming. Just picked it up and looking forward to giving it a look.

Been on a 2D binge as of late (recently finished Kero Blaster, Momodora: Reverie under the Moonlight, Environmental Station Alpha and Castle in the Darkness) so I have segued into Owlboy quite nicely.

Played it for a couple of hours last night and finished what I guess I'll call the second dungeon. Very charming game, felt weird at first to be able to fly everywhere after the pixel-perfect platforming requirements of Castle in the Darkness. Movement initially felt weird but it really comes together once you can dash in midair.

Getting all the coins will be horrendous for my inner completionist, though... I feel like the game could benefit from a map in this regard.

I have to think more about it, but in this moment is a Top 10 in all the history. Is nice, has a wonderful music, and I have cried like 5 times because of the power of friendhip and self improvement. GOTY.

Yeah they are surprisingly thought of, until you reach that part with the
cannon ball and wounded lady.

That one's fine actually since you can whack stuff with
her stick
That's the easier part of that section :P

It also helps that there IS a reason for Otus and co. to approach that section of the game like that.

well this kept me up last night later than it should have, played until 130 am. Game is soooooo good. Love everything about it so far.

Bruh
Advent and the aftermath.
Gotta ask do I ever unlock a
map? I want to re explore the dungeons to grab missing coins etc.
