Was kinda disappointed how all of the other mechs got f'ed up so easy. Loved the Russian one pumping itself up with that fist pound only to be killed shortly thereafter.

The Kaju sprouting wings and the ensuing sword stab had cheers from my theater. Great stuff.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Really liked the mech and monster designs. Personally it was a nice summer blockbuster about giant robots and monsters.

One question though....Why are manned boats still a technology in use? In a universe where monsters pop up from the sea and the technology to build 50 story combat robots, why do people still need to be aboard boats?

I liked us getting our asses kicked for once....

I wanted the Russians to say "for mother Russia" though...

Can you imagine how cool the shining finger sequence would be in live action?

Every goddamn day.

Completely agree with ya there

Awesome fucking movie from beginning to end!

Anyone else read the Tales from Year Zero comic book? Some really awesome stories that show a bit of what some if you want in a sequel. :-D

It doesn't need to be win/win all the time. I just wish the other mechs would have gotten a little more action before going under.

Wuhh? It seemed that technology was about equal with present time and all resources were being dumped into development of the Jaegers. What would you see replacing boats anyway?

Cherno Alpha :(

Missed like the first 5-10min, was pissed! But I got into it, didn't miss the Alaska flashback at least. That kaiju from Mako's flashback was cool, Ebirah Prime!

I really hated that Cherno and Crimson were taken out before they actually did anything. Gipsy's fights were amazing though, so that made up for it.

Solid movie. Amazing action, standard dialogue, bad ass Elba and hilarious Charlie Day.

I think the plot and dialogue got the job done. It obviously took a back seat to the action, but I was so busy being thoroughly entertained through the entire film that I didn't have time to judge the quality of the story.

Loved loved loved loved this movie. My only issue was with the ending. I so wanted Gypsy Danger to wipe the floor with the little guys on the other side of the portal before he self destructed. I'd have settled with him at least flicking the alien they focused on but id much rather seen him lay waste to them for a good minute or so.

I'm thinking back on it. And I just can't imagine who the hell EVER THOUGHT building a fucking wall was smarter than to keep funding the jaegers.

Just saw this on the wiki: "In July 2013, del Toro discussed the sequel, stating: "The main idea that we're bouncing off is the fact that Newt drifted with a Kaiju brain, and all Kaiju brains are connected. We say that. They are like a hive mentality. So, you know, draw your own conclusions."[94]"

Like most of the other questions you can ask about the movie, there is no good answer. (Why do we even need manned suits? Why not control them remotely? They already demonstrate the ability to use a remote kill-switch.) Again, it's all for the sake of getting to the action scenes.

I think the idea was to build a wall and mobilize artillery to the point in the wall that would be attacked by a Kaiju. Of course this was stupid because they were probably only expecting attacks from CAT 3 or lower that might take a few hours if not days to get through the wall.

Movie was incredible fun.

Best part was Gypsy Danger slicing the kaiju in mid-air with its sword.
That part gave me chills. My jaw literally dropped.

I know there's a sequel that's technically greenlit but I don't know how set in stone that is if the movie underperforms at the box office.

Loved the designs for the Jaegers. Shame we only saw a few since the whole universe looks interesting. I want to read up on every country's history of building Jaegers and their designs.

Since it twice now. On second watch I noticed that Mako's escape pod was emitting some type of green gas into the water. It doesn't happen to Raleigh's.

I noticed that too. Don't know what it was.

The thing that I found a bit odd was how they needed kaiju DNA to get through the portal into the alien dimension, but the escape pods seemed to make it back out just fine.

Unless kaiju DNA was only required to get through from the Earth side.

That movie was so beautiful. Just so damn good.

It was a 9pm Friday night showing, and the movie theater was pretty damn full. The dudebros especially loved the movie.

That's what someone else was thinking. That the barrier only existed on Earth's side.

Dialogue was a bit cheesy, main actor was terrible, and the character development was absolute shit giving me no reason to care for any of the characters' fates. But damn were those monsters fucking awesome! A fun action flick, but probably one of my least favorite del Toro flicks.

a real life mech movie is something i've dreamed about since i was a kid. the best part of it was the sfx and sitting close to the front at an imax i couldn't really comprehend any of it. plot was extremely predictable and the writing around everything was pretty corny, the romance was bad and forced. in the end i did like it, gotta say i was let down that it wasn't anything more.
