Paste: The 100 Best Superhero Movies of All Time

Neither are superheroes though.

Just because they're in a comic book doesn't make them superheroes.

Ghost World isn't a superhero movie, for example.

The Avengers hasn't held up well at all on repeat viewings. Civil War is a better "all-in-one" Marvel film. TDK is the opposite. It's a movie you kind of scratch your head at due to the editing and pacing (which is a stark contrast to Batman Begins), but tends to get better on repeat viewings.

So that top ten is a bit borked.

No one will ever claim The Incredible Hulk is one of the best MCU efforts, but it deserves credit for being one of the first.

*cough*

My favorite personally.

*dashes out window*

EDIT:

Ok, great #1 choice. While I disagree with alot of their Marvel selections I understand that comes less from my affection for comics and more from my love for movies. #1 is the perfect intersection of that, as a sort of tangent that came out of the blue like a heavenly miracle.

Also, double points for Rocketeer in the top 40..!! ^^'

Not a bad list. Top 10 is pretty solid, but I'd switch Unbreakable with CA:Civil War since The Avengers is already there and is better (despite that awful Captain America uniform in the Avengers).

No it isn't. The Avengers falls the heck apart after watching it multiple times. It's cool to see it all come together, but Panther and them flutes >>>>>>>>> puny god

this as #2?

really*

That part was hilarious and a crowd pleaser. What's your problem?

As usual in list ranking threads, the only thing everybody agrees is that the list is wrong.

1. Watchmen
2. The Dark Knight
3. Batman Begins
4. Dredd
5. X-men 2
6. Days of Future Past
7. Iron Man
8+ Who cares

The Incredibles at #1?

Man, people rate animation films so highly.. I don't dislike them but they don't appeal to me anywhere near their average critical rating.

Word. Millar is fucking garbage. The only thing bearing his name that I can tolerate is Kingsman but I wouldn't be surprised if the comic is way dumber than the movie.

I agree, should be higher. Not so secretly the GOAT Iron Man movie.
Millar needs a thearpist or something...

Also, yeah Iron Man 3 is the best Iron Man movie and one of the better MCU movies

List is ass

No Blankman or Meteor Man

No Wilder Napalm

Scott Pilgrim?!
You wanna know what's a great Superhero movie? Blankman

can you even make a good top 10, let alone a top 100

the two Raimi Spideys, two Nolan Batman, Incredibles, Blade 1/2, Winter Soldier, maybe X-2...

I mean...

what else is there

Right but do BvS and Friday the 13th have the critical success and box office numbers that Avengers got? I suspect not. Avengers succeeded on every level. Fan response, critics loved it, commercially. If you make something that succeeds in every department its probably a great film.

What does this have to do with cinema atmosphere?

nice to see Iron Man 3 at 14. great movie and really underrated as far as the MCU's offerings are concerned. don't agree with everything (batman begins > dark knight, first class > X2 and dofp) but it's a nice varied list.

You have my gamma irradiated axe. The Incredible Hulk has always been one of my favourite MCU movies, although I recognize it suffers from many flaws. I love Bruce Banner's character arc in that film, not to mention feel it has one of Marvel's more compelling love interests in the form of Betty. It's got a lot of really fun moments too.

We gotta get that Superhero Poll updated by March. Inm8num2 is still around, right? He was in charge last time.

My votes would be different this time around. #1 stays #1, though.

1) The Incredibles
2) Superman: The Movie
3) The Dark Knight
4) Spider-Man 2
5) Captain America: The First Avenger
6) Guardians of the Galaxy*
7) Captain America: The Winter Soldier
8) Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
9) Blade II
10) Hellboy II

*I don't really think of Guardians as a superhero movie, but being as it's linked to, and spun out of, a superhero universe, I guess it should count. Otherwise everything would bump up one and X2: X-Men United would take the #10 slot.

No top 10 should include any Spider-Man or X-Men film, they're such trash. I can't condone this list.

(although First Class and DoFP are decent)

Avengers is waaaaay too high. That movie does not hold up well at all on repeated viewings. Repeated viewings only amplify all the flaws and show that's it's really just a bloated big battle movie. It's a slog to get through everything up until said big battle. In fact, most of the MCU doesn't hold up well on repeated viewings for me; the only ones that do: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Totally agree with the GotG part. I'm like, it just feels like a good Star Wars movies than a superhero one.

I've watched it 4-5 times and it's just as fun and compelling for me as it was the first time I saw it.
