Never played path of exile 1 or Diablo before. Just started path of exile 2 as a ranger. Can I wing the level up/skill system until I figure out the mechanics of the game? Or should I be looking at guides to make sure I’m working towards an optimized meta build or whatever?

I figure I can just wing it and respec to something optimized when I get to the end of the game but not sure.
I would think that there aren't many guides for the game because everyone is just figuring things out.

This is my first time with poe and I've been playing blind. It's fine since you can respect by paying a bit of gold, there's nothing permanent in your build at any time.

Just look ahead on the tree and aim in a direction that you think would strengthen your playstyle but also keep an eye on nodes that will make you tougher. I am not following a guide with any of my characters and am doing fine.

Need to bitch about something. There's no reason for low level unique gear to be dropping on Cruel difficulty. It sucks when you're thirsty for better gear because you're falling behind, and then you get all excited because a unique drops. But then you find out the gear is level 11, and you're doing level 50+ content. That shouldn't even be happening.

You can disenchant it to get shards to make an orb of chance. That give you a random chance to turn a normal item into a unique item.

That's what I've been doing, but I feel like I'll run into the same problem when I use an Orb of Chance. I might get a low level unique. I'm really enjoying the game, but this is something I think definitely needs to be fixed.

To the subject of "winging it" as some folks were discussing earlier...

I'm nervous about it lol. I'm only lvl 5 or so on my new Witch, but that damn Passive tree is so damn big! I really need to look at the Skills and get a feel for what is coming later that I might want to build into. I'm enjoying the combo of Minions and Chaos and Contagion magic, but I heard about an Aura build for the Witch and that sounds cool, too. I'm focusing on armor with Energy Shield, but I also want to look cool!

Cruel and endgame feel like a different game than POE2. Packs of enemies every 5 m. The more slow, methodical gameplay is kinda not there anymore.
I got to endgame but I might put this game down for a while until they sort things out some more. The gearing / items is very underwhelming, LE is much better in this regard. You feel you're getting rewarded often as you go along.
I barely had any upgrades through Cruel and the endgame didn't seem to improve it much either.
At any rate, game has a lot of potential and will be interesting where they take it over the next 6 months to a year.

There are some really expensive unique amulets and rings. Find out which one is the most expensive and use your orbs of chance on that.

End game is non existent. It’s a more boring and limited poe1.

They clearly rushed something out the door to keep people on a treadmill.

I wanna try that warrior build above but that’s 200% gonna be nerfed next patch I bet.

I never experienced PoE 1 end game so not too worried. I have 6 characters to get to Cruel first so by the time I get there, it should be better. I'm excited to see the new acts and classes! I know most want end game to be fixed, but for me those two are more important for now. There are so many other games to play early next year that finishing the campaign and trying new skills through it are more exciting. Give me my Javazon, Spears, Swords, and the Druid!

I do wonder how they will release the acts. Would you all want to wait a year and get all three at once, or get one every 3 months? One class and one act could be cool.

I usually follow guides in Diablo 3 and 4 but with this one, idk, I feel pretty good with making my own thing. Maybe cause I don't care about the ladder and I like it's slower pace. I never followed any guides in Dark Souls/Elden Ring either and to me this game is essentially another Souls-like(not totally, I know)...maybe that's it. Nothing wrong with following one though! I'd be a hypocrite to say otherwise. But one thing that is nice is since I don't follow any OP guides, I haven't been disappointed with any nerfs lol!

I think to justify a true 1.0 release they need to save at least 2 acts for release, and I’d recommend they save 3.

In the meantime just layer the end game so people can keep pumping hours into characters they build.

As for new classes I’d like to see one a month, and a new ascendancy every other month.

I’d love a crafting bench 3-6 months from now. I think uniques need a severe overhaul to have more useful ones and similar to how gear works now of normal, advanced, expert, do the same with uniques. Offer a third of overall stats for a normal compared to an expert end game variant, and have the low tier ones have higher drop rates than what we have now.

There’s no dopamine to loot currently. The only thing I like seeing drop is exalted orbs.

I agree with others that the game needs to be harder. Too much of the game is now piss easy and it didn’t even take a week to turn the game into child’s play.

Whenever they're ready for it and tuned what they released so far.

There's no need to keep anything for the big release, it's a free game, we just paid to play and test it early

Zone maps reset when I leave and return...feature or bug?!

I'm getting tired of running around early game Grelwood looking for quest objectives... D:

If there are no players in an open instance, the server will close that instance after 8 to 15 minutes in order to save resources.

That's why my usual game plan is - Do the dungeon/map, come back to town to ID and dump everything into a general quad tab labeled "dump", and then go back to the dungeon in under 30 seconds.

After I'm done, I can go back and sort through all the shit I found.

Feature. The grinding is amazing in this game. Love it! It gets a bit too easy after awhile with 2 handed melee character, at level 52 now, but wow! Great game.

Rotten Druid in the Grim Tangle just decimated me. Was I supposed to fight this thing? It's my only MQ that I am leveled for according to the monster level in the menu.

This area is terrible. Maps resetting is a feature? It's archaic and it disrespects a player's time. The environment also blends in visually when I open up the map, making it even more obtuse to navigate. Where is the marker for my objective? What does "Continue through the Grim Tangle" mean? It's a maze and I'm struggling visually and with enemies, all while having no clue what I'm supposed to be looking for. This isn't fun.

And I was feeling okay at lvl 7 with my progress but now, in here, I'm struggling a bit. This doesn't feel fun or right.

You can try to adjust the map transparency settings in the options to your taste. I know I had to change mine.

You have to continue through the dungeon to get to the other side.

If you're struggling, get some better weapons from the guild stash.

First thing I did was changing the map settings, too much transparency and who needs the landscape?

Yeah, I've seen a lot of uniques and they kind of oversold them in their reveal video. I haven't seen one like the one they showed that makes your roll a teleport yet.

I think people misunderstand what uniques are. They are not the most powerful items like in other games, but are items (usually less powerful than good rares) that enable some very specific builds. For example, i got some gloves unique which have terrible stats, but have a gimmick that enables my poison build so much with poison magnitude.

They are not very useful for low level characters, but shine on endgame when you have synergies with the passive tree and skills with more support gems.

Yeah, that low level hat in our stash that does 15% physical damage mitigation? That one's pretty godlike in endgame.

Oh yeah, I get how they are in most games like this, but it would be cool to see more of the ones that can change the gameplay in some way instead of gems doing all the lifting. They had that example in the EA trailer that had those boots that turned you into sand, so I expected more uniques like that. Even D3 has uniques that has you throwing axes with every attack for example. What I'm saying is where is my In-Geom? :p That would prob be too OP for PoE 2.

Damn, you really have to experiment with other classes spells, it's game changing on my monk, with this spell I don't need anything else to make power charges:

U5lseEa.png

You make charges on corpses, it's more efficient than anything in the monk's kit to gain them. (on bosses I still use lingering illusion)

Have you tried using the spirit gem "Combat Frenzy" and then the passive node "Resonance"?

Sabejita

But doesn't the frenzy charge convert to a power charge? So you just take the power charge nodes on the passive tree.
Yes but you can only get 3 charges of frenzy or endurance so you can't get over 3 (when I had +4 on tree), that's what made me stop using it, maybe you can slot it for more charges, I haven't looked too much into it.

Just realised if you stand on a waypoint to travel, it brings up the option to fast travel to the guild hideout. Didn't even know we had one. No wonder they call it a hideout lol

Really happy they made respec this way.

Been respeccing quite a bit lately, completely changing my necro build in the process.
Only now at lvl 42 feeling like I'm getting a more solid build.

Does not really work for warrior yet at the moment imo. Lack of Templar/druid or duelist means you have a choice of maces or mace. I really think warrior gameplay will come alive when you have a mix of mace, flails, axes and swords to utilise to flesh out your move set.

Now I'm getting the concept of map sustain having run out of tier 5 and 6 maps, only got 1s and 2s left :/ Thing is, whenever I boost them to rare or add more magic stuff the game laughs and gives me nothing back. Probably have to do Dorvani's quest to get his shop to refresh?

Game wants me to try fire staves so badly, got a collection of interesting ones so will need to boost this and have a play:
fVQlvoI.png

I dunno how many of these things I've checked but I'd given up on there being belts with more charm slots, so getting one with a +2 made me double take:

It was added in the last patch, makes going to hideout on console super easy now.

After all the talk online on how you need to get resists up in this game I'm biting the bullet and starting to buff that up. I'm about 45% for fire, cold and lightning now but no chaos. Not sure even what does chaos damage, maybe higher levels??? I'm 42 now.

Chaos is the hardest to get...Is usually the purple stuff and green stuff (poison) and is nasty because is bypassing energy shield.
