Path of Exile 2 Early Access |OT| An Exile like ARPG.

Chaos is the hardest to get...Is usually the purple stuff and green stuff (poison) and is nasty because is bypassing energy shield.
Ah that purple stuff. I do have a skill that makes that but I haven't found it useful. I need to get out of my Diablo habits that you basically use 2 skills all your life you get used to.

I've leveled my son's witch up to the point we were. I'm not high on the sorceress I was using with him. I've seen Raxx use a monk with frost strikes, anyone tried it? Could maybe play that with my son's witch

Okay, my current favorite character is a Ranger that I turned into a Monk. I am using lightning tempest into temple bell, the palm strike that gives charges, and Falling Thunder. I had no idea that those charges would make falling thunder that insane. I love most spell effects but those lightning scorch marks and the devastation when you use it fully charged is my new fave.

Discovering that I was charging my bell with something other than basic attack made all the difference. I feel like I'm playing a better version of Wukong. Got to act 2 so fast it's crazy. Killed Geonor before he could even begin his cold cycle where he summons werewolves.

I just started endgame maps, having fun (still Tier 1, unlocked my 1st hideout :messenger_smiling_hearts:), I have one question for veterans, should I buy Doryani's maps (in advance)?

Cruel and endgame feel like a different game than POE2. Packs of enemies every 5 m. The more slow, methodical gameplay is kinda not there anymore.
I got to endgame but I might put this game down for a while until they sort things out some more. The gearing / items is very underwhelming, LE is much better in this regard. You feel you're getting rewarded often as you go along.
I barely had any upgrades through Cruel and the endgame didn't seem to improve it much either.
At any rate, game has a lot of potential and will be interesting where they take it over the next 6 months to a year.
Yeah the game is great and I like the slower pace, but I am feeling the same now - I'm in the Dreadnought on Cruel. I felt the same with Diablo 4 tbh.

Sure. It's important to not run out of maps.

You can craft your map items using orbs, just like with normal items. Doing so makes it so the maps they open will drop more waystones. I even use regals and exalts on the later ones, so I get like +300% waystone drop rate. You probably don't need to do that on the early stages, so for now just use your blue orbs so they give you around +125% drop rate.

This area is terrible. Maps resetting is a feature? It's archaic and it disrespects a player's time. The environment also blends in visually when I open up the map, making it even more obtuse to navigate. Where is the marker for my objective? What does "Continue through the Grim Tangle" mean? It's a maze and I'm struggling visually and with enemies, all while having no clue what I'm supposed to be looking for. This isn't fun.
Modern gamer? Anyway the map transparency settings someone posted are a godsend. I have no idea what they were thinking with the defaults. I tend to clear areas by looking at the overworld map so I know how many points of interest there are, and search around until I clear all of those. If I get the exit to another area I'll usually go through it to activate the waypoint that's usually on the other side and then come back to what I was doing. Once the points of interest are clear there doesn't appear to be much else to find, sometimes a stronger monster or two but generally a waste of time. Between town teleports and checkpoint teleports the process hasn't been too ba for me.

Grim Tangle certainly didn't take long, and the areas seem to be getting way bigger as I go along (early act 3 now), so just be aware I guess if you're not into cartography.
Really happy they made respec this way.

Been respeccing quite a bit lately, completely changing my necro build in the process.
Only now at lvl 42 feeling like I'm getting a more solid build.
I tried to see what it would take to respec my monk (level 34 or so?) completely from scratch, and I think I wasn't even at a third refunded before the game told me I would have to exceed my gold reserves (60k across 2 characters both early act 3). I feel like it's leading me down a potential sunk cost disaster with that build. Is the economy ever going to flip in a way where a complete respec would be viable?
I've leveled my son's witch up to the point we were. I'm not high on the sorceress I was using with him. I've seen Raxx use a monk with frost strikes, anyone tried it? Could maybe play that with my son's witch
And here is part of my monk issue, I've been going all in on the lightning abilities, but started thinking maybe the frost stuff would be helpful in a lot of situations.
I think people misunderstand what uniques are. They are not the most powerful items like in other games, but are items (usually less powerful than good rares) that enable some very specific builds. For example, i got some gloves unique which have terrible stats, but have a gimmick that enables my poison build so much with poison magnitude.

They are not very useful for low level characters, but shine on endgame when you have synergies with the passive tree and skills with more support gems.
I pillaged the unique from the stash that gave +100 spirit which has done a lot for my witch... I don't think I died in Act 2 except for the boss and that's literally just because I had no idea there's an NPC following you around for the whole ending section because the screen was swarmed by my minions and fireballs at all time.

That same boss on my monk was a complete nightmare taking I don't even know how many attempts. Only got through it by once again pillaging the guild stash for some unique shoes (there were two copies of these in there, so I felt less bad about grabbing it) with high lightning resist, and a lightning resist charm on top of it just for good measure.

Rotten Druid in the Grim Tangle just decimated me. Was I supposed to fight this thing? It's my only MQ that I am leveled for according to the monster level in the menu.

And I was feeling okay at lvl 7 with my progress but now, in here, I'm struggling a bit. This doesn't feel fun or right.
Doesn't sound like this game is for you mate.

At the moment at lvel 45ish my monk is half frost/half lightening and nothing has been too difficult. Lightening for range and ice strike/Bell up close. Not sure if this is how your supposed to do it but it works well for now.

Playing warrior. During the campaign I focused a lot on +damage for the bosses, but now that I'm deep in the endgame I think it's worth to invest more on +aoe to clear those mobs faster. Rearrange my skill tree for that and I think it's working wonders.

Yeah, going need more of them content updates.

Deep into Brutal on one character, Deep into Act 2 on another.

I need those new zones.

Sell the stuff in the emergency cash stash tab in the guild stash if you need respec gold.
I don't know I looked at a couple of things in there and they would sell for a like a few hundred, maybe there's more expensive stuff in there as well... but I mean it was 60k gold for a very partial respect, I'm guessing 150k to do a full respec.. I guess next time I load up the game I will go through the exercise of clicking every single node and getting the actual number but it just doesn't seem worth it.

And it's more of a design philosophy thing. I can't figure out why it is the way that it is. Especially if you spec into something good and then it gets nerfed, seems like you just get really really screwed.

I plan on going merc or ranger on my next character and will do a little more preplanning.

That must help, while leveling my son's, couldn't even have 2 arsonists and raging spirits up at the same time because of spirit issue
I'd put it back but I haven't come across a replacement piece with any spirit, let alone something close to +100. I have something like 240 total spirit and plus minion skills (might just be +1, I forget). As I level I'm not finding stuff worth replacing my current gear with which is kind of weird to me. It doesn't feel like level is that impactful. Like I'll get a staff for my monk that's +10 levels from my current one but has the same or slightly less base damage and my DPS does down when equipping it? (even accounting for the fact that I slotted runes into the old one, which is another thing that keeps me from upgrading my gear with new drops, it'd be expensive to get them past my current gear).

There's a lot of things in there. Sell as much as you need to. I'll add more vendor trash later if it gets empty. Its purpose there is to solve problems like the one you're having.

All the areas in endgame are new! Well, sorta, they reuse lots of assets but in clever ways, so every area looks new.

I just traded for new gear on my Witch, so I put my old gear in the guild stash. It has good +spirit mods on the scepter and the body armor.

Making my way through Act 2 and having a far more enjoyable time with a Merc Galvanic Shard/Lightning build over a grenadier build. I've still got gas grenades and explosive shot/grenades in tow, but I just don't enjoy the slower playstyle associated with it as the primary damage source. I just wonder if it will have any sort of viability in endgame, since all I see mentioned on build suggestion videos are grenadier builds.

Also, I just want to say that the guild stash has been clutch. I've found a few items in there that have had me feeling godlike early-on. I'm making it a point to return the favor by dumping some items in there when I can, so hopefully those help someone. Many thanks, people!

I also split up the Lv 31-40 tab into Lv 31-35 and Lv 36-40 because it was getting too crowded, and I think at that character level, players might need a little more selection in their gear.

Thank you to all the donations so that we could afford another quad tab.

Speaking of Scepters and the like, I found two unique ones last night. Putting them in the guild stash.

Got these gloves that turn Fire to Cold damage. I have 25% Cold Damage as Extra Fire, but I tried them out and did not see any improvement. Might need to respec around it to make it work.
heh I just had an idea: what happens if I use it with that 100% Cold to Lightning damage ring with these 100% Fire to Cold gloves?

Hmm, not sure. It doesn't say Fire to ADDITIONAL Cold damage, or Cold to ADDITIONAL Lightning damage, so I don't think it would increase your damage. Those gloves are used in a fireball/frostwall cast on freeze build.

hmm... I have
25% extra Fire damage from cold from a node
Lots of Cold Damage modifiers from nodes
...if that extra Fire damage also gets modded, then it should increase my dmg, right? Everything is Cold Damage and modded?

edit: that is an insane build lol. I tried fireball with the gloves, but I guess I'm missing a lot of other stuff. Now that I think about it... I have the 25% extra dmg from other elementals as well, and I lose that with the gloves.

Staff is for anyone who wants to use spells. Mostly sorcs though. If you want to be a spellcasting Witch, you can use it. But if you want to go hard into minions, you'll most likely want a scepter.

I've got a wand and sceptre, but only because the wand has +50% spell damage, +30% minion hp, +2 levels to all spells, + 20 intelligence and +10% to all resistances. I don't use its ability because I already explode corpses.

I've had it since lvl20 and I'm hitting 55 on cruel rn. Nothing dropped or rolled has touched it yet.

I just came across a yellow elite with a "period invulnerability aura" that never seemed to end. I'm not sure what the trick is here with these guys. I kited him for a few minutes and just couldn't do any damage at any point.

I had one of those that had regenerative health. I could blast him for a slight decrease in health but he would regenerate everything in seconds. It was two birds in Act 2 and I killed 1 of them. I reloaded and it had a different modifier.

My end game tree is completely specced into waystone sustain and I still have completely run out of waystones at tier 6 and now am stuck unless I buy more on the market for 1ex a piece or spend an hour combining waystones from tier 1 to tier 6. I was hoping they would have solved this problem from PoE1 where you had to buy maps from other people to play the game.

Modern gamer?

No. 45 years old, gaming since Atari 2600 and arcade cabinets and pinball machines. Old school D&D player. But the DM didn't make us draw the map all over again every time we entered an area we had previously explored. And I am playing a modern video game, not a tabletop game from the 1980's. Also, older video games didn't have the technology and memory to generate static maps so drawing them once upon a time was understandable. It's 2024. Put a separate and static map screen in a video game, especially in isometric games with purposely confusing maze-like levels like the Grim Tangle. Offer a toggle for purists who enjoy the map as it is. They can offer toggles for other stuff in the settings. so it is totally possible. They can keep the aesthetic without making basic gameplay harder for the sake of some pointless nostalgia for drawing things. Even with the much better map transparency settings that were recommended to me, it's still a visual headache and unnecessary strain on the eyes with the present overlay system.

I have a hit a point where I can kite for a while and kill most small groups in Act 3, but the placement I get into with multiple mobs gets me killed. I finished act 2 on a high note, solo. I’m going to have to read up on becoming more powerful, especially around level 35, which is my main’s current level.

Arsic

Loves his juicy stink trail scent
Almost caught up on infernalist srs with my homebrew pathfinder poison ranger.

It’s the most chill build. Simple and effective. I feel confident I can take this into end game and beat all content with it.

—-

On a separate note I think I know a solution for Diablo 4 to compete with PoE2.

-Redo skill tree and expand it with new abilities. I’m talking double or triple the nodes than it currently it has for each class. This should create far more customization and build variety/expression.
-Create a “ruthless” mode. In it make it so you cannot take abilities off of items and place them into other gear. Make it so what drops is what it is. Lower the drops significantly for yellow and legendaries. Now the dopamine goes way up. And everything that drops matters. This extends lifetime played to gear hunt.
-Major end game overhaul again.

—-
At that point PoE2 would have competition other than PoE1.

BTW I think the campaign is mostly balanced OK, except for Utzaal
Enemies every 5m, lots of chaos damage, enemies that slow you and seem to have high evasion, low number of checkpoints, that area is straight up an unreal difficultly spike, and after it is a cakewalk.
Don't know if anyone noticed this as well, it jumped out at me fairly hard (it's the area right after you
open the time portal thing
)

(PS. how do you do inline blacked out spoilers on this forum)

For me, it really helped to get an item with lots of +accuracy rating. Once I could hit them almost always it was much easier.
