Path of Exile 2 - THE Game to Save Gaming

I hate that trend. When these games are too easy it gets boring fast. It doesn't matter if things ramp up much farther in (which takes many hours to get to) I've gotten bored and stopped long before then.
I played through POE1 when it first came out and was just 3 acts but every time I've tried since I've gotten bored by the 2nd act as apart from the odd difficulty spike it's too easy at this stage. This games are far more interesting when it's challenging and forcing you to think about your build, gear and tactics.

Diablo 1 and 2 were never too easy for a new player at the beginning. Record of Lodoss War on the Dreamcast was one of the most brutal but also one of the most interesting and tactical. That's why I'm glad to hear about the challenge in POE2 from the start.

Agree, I also prefer games that are hard and that you can actually die. Usually that means the game requires you go learn the mechanics of the boss and become more skilled at timing.
Souls has the benefit of if you really can't get gud, you can always over level, so in a sense the difficulty is tunable.
I'm playing FFXVI with a mod to increase the difficulty, it feels much better, but sometimes I will die to a boss and it will put me at a point where I have full health/potiions and the boss is at like half health. That's terrible lol, let me do the full challenge without the cheese.

POE1 it's really easy to over level if you do a lot of side content. You can also cheese bosses by dying and going back to them, and they are at the same health level as when you died.
Games that don't make the player fail so they can get better kinda feel like they don't respect their players very much.

Hey thanks for the message. I have not played ever this game so I am wondering, do these games force you to spend money? I am always a bit suspicious of these types of games when they are free 2 play.
I spent a total of 60 euro in 6 years and got ~400 hours of gameplay. The 60 euros i spent were ONLY on stash tabs and ONLY during sales. Never felt the need to spent any cent on other things. With the 60 euros I bought all relevant stash tabs (I think are like 6 or 7), but let's say the "must have" once you decide to put many hours in the game are the map stash tab and the currency stash tab, which you can buy them with 15-20 euros during sales.

Now with PoE2, the EA key is 30 euros which comes with 300 points to spent. Those can be spent on the currency and map stash tabs and your good to go. Nothing lost...They could easily make the EA key 30 euro without giving any points to spent, but GGG is not a greedy company.

Wtf are you both talking about?

One dude played 3 acts only and judged poe to be easy, and you talking about over leveling in poe? What?

Judging from your posts, you both have no idea what your talking about. Unless you rmt, you need to invest many many hours to gear up for endgame, and a lot of that content is made "easy" by your build, your items and you understanding the mechanics.

Poe is never "easy" if you play legit. It takes either alot of time and dedication to get good. Even if you follow a guide, as a new player you would still have little idea what is going on.

Sure, you can conquer most content, but with how many retries? And most content is far from all content.

Also, many aspects regarding retries are being changed in poe2.

I wanted to try the first one, but it looks too insane in the menus and skill trees. I've always heard high praise for it, but I want to play my games, not stare at menus.

I looked at some build guides on the official forums. Those people may as well be jacked into thr matrix.

I should clarify, I was referring only to the campaign, endgame is an entirely different beast.
In the campaign it's very easy to overlevel and have content be relatively easy (ie. be a good 4-5 levels above the monster level of the mission).
I found on my first playthrough on POE1 that I was just steamrolling everything, so the second playthough I skipped most side content and stuck to the main missions to prevent the game from becoming too easy.
I didn't make it to end game because I got too bored with the game, but I understand that's where a lot of the fun is, though for me it didn't seem worth it, the world building, story, characters, etc. were just so poor I didn't feel connected to the game in any way and for me that's very important if I'm going to stick with something for a long time.

Yeah, idk him, but there was a video I was watching from Quin69 where he was watching "Havoc" playing it while dying pretty often. I guess he is a known speed runner of PoE 1 so if he was dying, you know it's hard. Of course, like Elden Ring, you can probably find the right combination of skills or farm a little to help you out, but yes, it is great ot hear it is challenging.

So confrontational about it when no one has even played end game. We are obviously talking about what has been shown so far which is early campaign stuff. And you say, "one guy only played 3 acts." when that is all PoE 2 is launching with and people are dying often. Even in co-op there is a video where Rogers(who should be a vet by now) and Yoshida died several times to normal enemies and especially the boss and that was in co-op where they could resurrect each other, and they had to redo the boss. PoE 1 campaign is easy mode in comparison.

Edit: Sorry for triple post, I guess I'm too excited for this...

Spoilers of course, but someone got access to the first two acts. Streamer privilege :(
Anyway, someone within the first minute said, reminds me of Elden Ring top down and Rob agreed. "It is a bit Souls-like as well." I know I'm being insufferable about the Souls aspects but it is a huge reason of why I am so excited for this.

I like how your character says things mid combat. The Warrior saying "Weak!" after wrecking an enemy.

An in game short video and voice over explaining skills is such a good feature!

Wanna try this game. My ARPGS were only D2, D3 vanilla and Dungeon Siege 1. (yes, been years since I played any ARPG)
Curios that if its F2P, what are the benefits or rewards if you shell out?

Well the EA is buy to play. $30. It will probably launch and be f2p in a year or so. You can pay for extra stash and upgrade material stash that makes it all much easier to keep tidy. Other than that most of it is cosmetic. Cosmetic armors, effects like cooler looking weapons and portals and pets that don't do anything besides stand around.

I don't care about the cosmetics, so I'm not sure if the 2nd tier onwards are still good value for the extra coins (for additional stash space). Do you get a good coin deal for the 60 tier for example?

I’m thinking about getting the $30 tier. I wouldn’t mind something ongoing after Diablo IV. I wasn’t that engaged in Diablo IV’s endgame, even after purchasing the DLC. Something new sounds good. This looks much better than the first game.

The fact that the game will double in size during the 6-12 month EA period is just mindblowing. They also said patches and content will come quickly so i expect monthly big patches to the game

if I didn`t know that I have zero time to play this I´d buy the 30$ EA tier in the blink of an eye. this looks like everything I wanted a Diablo 2 sequel to be.

Oh well, maybe in a year or so.

It looks good.

I guess that endgame content is pretty mindblowing, but now that I think of it, I have never ever made it to 'endgame' in any ARPG...

Honestly, I like menu games pretty good. I spent maybe 50 hours in BG3 just doing inventory management sweeps just because I like to keep my stuff tidy. It just makes me feel good and helps draw out my enjoyment of a great game even further. To each their own though, but menu games are where it's at. Here's a shoutout to BG3, Nioh 2, & the greatest menu game of all time, Armored Core VI.

Honestly POE2 looks just my bag, so I'll check 'er out.

None really. It's really to support the devs, and stash tabs only come into play as you start making many characters and going deeper into endgame.

Basically the devs are giving you a truly free game, if you like it you can support them, and if you end up getting very very invested that's only when they may pressure you to spend a little bit of money.

So the opposite of Blizzard, basically

That happened for me about 20 hours in lol. I'm a hoarder. "Oh, I can save that for my 5th character I plan to make next year!" Except for this time I want to try all classes and will probably have my stash near full within a week lol

Havent been following because I thought early access was PC, just found out console also. So whats the deal on dec 6 I can pay 30 to play this now, or wait TBA to play this for free?

Apparently they have more pre-orders for EA than max CC players ever for PoE 1.
I'm gonna fetch mine last minute, I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I need a 2nd controller for my son for couch co-op, waiting in case I can get a 30th anniversary one

Yes packs become available on the 6th for console folks. Or you could wait, but fuck that

Yo I'm hoping this thread is the right place to ask. I want to play this couch co-op with my wife. As I understand, I can buy the early access key on PS5 and she can be a guest on my account. Any downside to not getting her her own key?

Also, she's not the best gamer out there. She played through D4 and thought that was fine, and recently beat Hades 2. How complicated is the systems and mechanics in this for someone in that skill range?

I wonder how it looks and runs on the pro. Gonna decide my ea platform on the 6th. Pc or Pro
Depends what you prefer, for EA you need a key on both platforms but after that there will be cross progressions minus the MTX

I liked the footage I saw on a base ps5 and I'll be able to couch coop so that was enough for me to decide to go with ps5

I'll be honest as a long time d2/d3 player i looked at PoE1 and stayed away because it looked like a jankier, worse-looking diablo clone that was part time spreadsheet simulator. But something about the way PoE2 looks has convinced me that this is the true successor to d2. Me and my gaming group are locked and loaded for the 6th.

PoE 2 looks so much more appealing to new players. Better gfx, better camera zoom, way better animations and meatier combat. Also a lot of streamlined systems. I tried playing poe like 3 times, bounced off pretty quickly, but im really hyped for PoE 2

Warrior is big, heavy and clunky. It looks as if you're almost playing dark souls. Pretty insane

I might go with that

its on console too :). I liked Grim Dawn better too, but gonna give this a shot
Yeah I only have a Switch right now. Eventually will get a PC. Or just get it on Switch 2.

I think I liked Grim Dawn because Titan Quest was my first ARPG. I missed D2 but really connected and liked Titan Quest. So much fun back in the day.

I think you will be fine.

PoE looks more confusing than it really. is. The skill tree is just "passive" skills. And if you just stay focused or pick skills that match your playstyle you will be fine. Its as easy as pick a damage type and keep finding those nodes.

Then you skills are gems. It gets complicated where the gems can be modified to fire more projectiles or add an element to the skill.

I'd say if you are playing co-op you can walk her through it and between the two of you she will be fine. she can probably pick 2-3 skills and just go with those.

Systems and mechanics should be fine, and you can learn together. Only downside is I'm not sure how stash tabs will work. Not sure if you'll be able to split up the 30 dollars in points to 15 dollars each, or maybe something else would work best. Also not sure if local co-op players can join online games, if that matters.

Anyone else know?

I bought the $30 Steam tier and then tied my PSN account to my POE account. I got a key to unlock the client when that’s available. According to their website I’ll be able to log in and get my PS5 client access when it releases in EA. That’s what I got from reading their wiki. Sounds like the “client” access for anything other than Steam isn’t available at the moment. The client unlock doesn’t guarantee you EA, so you must use your account to show proof or authenticate your EA. So tie whatever accounts you want to play on together or sync them on their website. I’m hoping to play couch coop with my wife.

I wonder what I can do if I have my PSN and Steam linked and I want to play Steam and PS5 together. Maybe that’s what jchung55 jchung55 is getting at. How would it work playing coop with my wife while one of us has the Steam Deck and the other person has the PS5 version running. Can it be the same account with EA?

You can also cheese bosses by dying and going back to them
doing this over and over again is gonna cost you hours of xp in late game, 10% xp lost per death after the campaign. It's enough of a deterrent that most people will try not to die, run a map and use all 6 portals on a level from death and you just threw away half a level of xp.

edit: this might be a good place to drop the best poe guide ever.

Hi GAF

Got 1 or two questions about this one before deciding if I jump into early access or wait till it goes f2p. So thought I'd log in here for the first time in a few years and ask.

So these sorts of games are totally my jam (5500ish hours on Grim Dawn, who knows how many thousands across D2,3 and 4, 1200 or so on Last Epoch etc etc) but despite that I kind of bounced off POE1 a bit. I last played in 2017 according to steam and logged around 150 hours, which obviously barely scratches the surface.

One of my main problems revolved around the layered rng with gear and needing sockets, linking them and getting the right colors, which was a major PIA for someone who likes to play these games solo self found. Especially when you started mapping and moving up the tiers, you need that stuff to get a functional build going and not be one shot by the bosses at the end. Correct me if I'm wrong, but watching the stream, they seem to have addressed that somewhat by removing skills from needing to be socketed into gear. So that's nice.

However, my main issue, and something I'm hoping for some clarification on as it didn't seem to be addressed in that stream, is around trading. From my perspective of the first game, if you wanted to get well into the endgame, then a lot of your gearing up would come from trading rather than grinding it yourself, unless you got real lucky. It seemed more you were grinding currencies to trade for the gear you need rather than the gear itself. I'm not big on the whole trading thing and would much prefer to be able to have the gear that I need drop with enough grinding and/or be able to craft things I need.

So will 2 be similar to 1 in that regard, or will it be a bit more friendly to SSF players? Or maybe I'm off the mark with my perception of the first game? (it's been a while)

Game otherwise looks great though and I'll likely succumb to the hype and jump into EA either way, but hoping someone might be able to clear that up

I really wish this was also on mobile , so u can play a few dungeons while Ur commuting on a bus metro or a vacation.
Cross progression would go such a long way to a game like this

The fact that fans and enthusiasts are so damn positive about a gaming company and how it listens to its user base, means a lot to me.

I think that's the driving factor for me to support and share the quality of a game with others.

Same thing with BG3, Space Marines 2, DarkTide, Capcom titles, etc.

The main warning I would have for you about this is I believe Sony refuses to allow crossbuy with micro-transactions. People are not happy about it, but it seems to be out of the developer's control. Because of this, you'll probably have to decide which is the main account you're going to use, and buy your stash tabs and such on that platform. You might want to look into this a bit more to see how everything will work.

And you and your wife can use either PC or PS5 to play local co-op, if you'd be good with that. I think player 2 is basically a guest account.

I dont really think this is a game where you can "just play a few dungeons". Poe requires dedication, so I dont think this mentality fits. Just imho.

In PoE2, there are no damage numbers that pop up and spam your screen. The only time you see damage is on the boss health bar. It works like Elden Ring. From what I have seen so far, the design of PoE2 has a lot less multipliers than Diablo 4, so the opportunity for ridiculous power scaling, both intended and unintended, are reduced.

AFAIK, you would need 2 accounts if you want to play co-op crossplay ie you play on PS5 and she plays on PC/Steamdeck. You can local co-op on the same platform but if you want to crossplay you would need 2 accounts. If I'm wrong please let me know.
