Patrick Klepek leaves Giant Bomb

After the way he treated his new co-worker earlier this year I am so thankful they're getting rid of him.
Dan didn't deserve that and the whole crew will be better off without him.

Bye.

Do you have an actual legitimate example to point to or this more "OMG, he called Nolan North an asshole" bullshit?

Kind of saw this coming from the antagonistic attitude he has passively aggressively been putting off on Twitter all year. Especially when Dan was hired.

This definitely explains the hiring calls they quietly put out, but this is a pretty big loss. Patrick gave Giant Bomb a wider voice and helped connect the site to a lot of people who weren't just the old gang of Jeff's industry pals (who are all great, but Patrick helped bring in more and more indie folks and tried out a lot of different stuff that the rest of the duders would just write off without trying).

Aren't the 'CAH offices' something more like a shared working space that they set up, to allow a base of operations for any interested, creative friends, working on whatever personal stuff they do?

In any case, Mr Klepek will be missed, he's going to leave a rather apparent hole in the smaller titles that the other editorial crew don't really go for. Good luck with whatever's next Patrick!

Aw, shit. Man, I was so stoked when he first started, I can't believe this. I guess that's the end of anything resembling discussion of social issues on GB. What a goddamn shame. Well, maybe Alex will pick up on that front, but damn, this is a huge bummer.

Patrick, you will be missed, thanks for the years of great content and covering niche games for GB. Best of luck to you in whatever the future holds next

I wasn't a huge fan of his content but I did love it when he was working in office with the group. I feel that GB is focusing in bigger productions and he doesn't fit future plans anymore being on his own. Next editor will probably be west or east coast to be on camera more.

Wish you the best Patrick.

Patrick is gonna keep doing Patrick stuff - barring Bombin' he was already mostly independent.

If getting a fully fledged NY office out of it is the trade-off, I'm cool with that - I have no doubt he'll still be putting out similar stuff.

That said, with hindsight his "new studio" tweets/bragging comes across a touch gross.

I hope he doesn't leave the industry and is on a podcast of some kind. His passion for games is infectious, and while he does tend to ramble, at least he isn't jaded like a lot of the other GiantBomb members.

I hope GBEast covers the indie stuff, as Patrick filled that hole quite nicely.

Patrick is gonna make flash games with Dave Lang.

Seriously though, he already said goodbye on his last Spookin' with Scoops.

Good luck Patrick! Don't be a stranger!

Consider how he's now doing PR work for 2K, I don't know if he'd even be interested, but I'd personally love this. Sessler in the Extended Play days was my favorite video game dude.

i want sessler back period. doesnt matter if hes on gb or ign.
i just want his content back.

I dont know much about him but he is the one who broke the Xbox 180 story right? Thats how I know him lol

Good luck for the future buddy. Sounds like a cool dude.

I missed that - what did he do to Dan?

He really hasn't "broke" much news lately. I think the last big thing he covered was the Xbox One Eighty stuff. I feel like he was a fish out of water since he moved back to Chicago. He needs to go back to a true news site and get into that routine daily. Polygon or Kotaku (back to Stephen Totilo) would be a good fit for him.

But, his personality was always a good part of the GB team. Good luck to him!

Most bummed cause he was one of the only ones that gave a shit about horror games and Japanese games etc

I understand where you are coming from, but that's why I don't want giant bomb to be the end all be all like some on this forum would like everybody to work for giant bomb.

Some things I'd never look at there from and now this too I will have to look elsewhere for.
Best of luck to the dude. And if he went into development, even better his talents could be rewarded there much better.

That's surprising. Never thought anyone from GB would leave given how much freedom they have/how much every likes them.

Looks like there will be another new hire coming up then.

I didn't always agree with him but he was a good counterweight to Jeff. That said, I barely could tell he was part of the site these last couple of months.

Anyway, best of luck to him.

I don't always follow a lot of stuff for Patrick (Spookin, Spelunkey) but I love whenever he did an article and the different point of views and discussions he brought to the site.
I'm sure he has grand plans and can only hope for the best.

This is exactly right. Without Patrick it's a much, much smaller site. Not so much in content, but in the types of games they play, the communities with which they engage, and how they discuss video games. He'll be very, very hard to replace even without mentioning his occasional reporting.

As a Patrick fan I'll follow him in whatever and wherever he falls. Godspeed. I would definitely Patreon him if he follows that route.

Well that sucks. His content's been lacking since he was on his own, but he was always great with the group and brought a lot of different perspective. Listening to the recent podcasts where he was back in town, it was really clear how good he is at actually analyzing games, and his thing over the past year or so of trying to chronicle his experiments with games outside of his comfort zone was really interesting. I was hoping they would be able to build something around him in Chicago, but I guess the need to build out the New York office and to restaff in San Francisco after all the shakeup there probably drained them of any resources that would go to Patrick. Or maybe the plan was always for him to transition away after the move to Chicago. Sucks either way. Hope they can find an adequate replacement.

Listening to the AM Podcast with Jim Sterling filling in, I'm kind of not surprised. The conversation he had with him made it sound like going independent made more sense for him.

Thats what I took from that show too. Honestly I think going independent makes sense for Patrick, but I wish him luck in whatever he decides to do.

I've always been a fan of his work, even if I didn't agree with him on a lot of things. He was one of the few non cynical personalities left at GB (thank god for Dan), and the morning show was great.

Makes sense after he went to Chicago. New York has Vinny and Alex and a CBS studio, and of course San Fran has the remainder of the crew and their digs. Patrick was the odd man out in his home.

The ONLY thing I remember is that Patrick was disappointed they hired white males again. He wanted more diversity. A female maybe.

I could be wrong about this, it's been a while.

Diversity for diversities sake? That's always cool. Come on, now that Dan's been at the site for a while is there honestly anyone who could have possibly fit in better with the GB culture? It's like a perfect fit.
