Amen. It's bad enough that Dan brings up wrestling constantly but whenever someone else does he practically cums in his pants and goes off on a tangent like he's suddenly given the green light to talk all about wrestling since somebody else brought it up that time.
I just can't watch any quick looks with him in it. Between the wrestling stuff, laughing at his owns jokes, and his dork/idiot persona act that he puts on (at least I think it's an act) he just isn't entertaining to me at all. The rest of the guys on GB get by on being clever and having great timing and/or one liners. Jeff and Vinnie especially. Dan is the complete opposite. I guess he realizes he's not naturally clever or funny so he just acts like an idiot for laughs. And reading some of these GAF posts apparently it's working for some people.
Anyway, sorry to see Patrick go.

It baffles me that Giantbomb, a site that revels in its lighthearted foolishness, always brings out such bitterness and internet-outrage on GAF. This thread isn't even about Patrick leaving anymore. All everyone wants is drama all the time. It'll get even worse if they hire a white dude for the east crew.
I liked really Patrick's content and his thoughts on games even if I think he was a little self righteous at times, hope he stays in something we can share in daily/weekly (unlike Garnett Lee, Shane B, Nick Sutner, etc)

I feel Dan is honestly a ray of sunshine because at time Jeff and Brad can be and have always been huge downers at times.
He brings a fresher perpective towards things and still seems to have a youthful outlook on games that the others don't seem to have at time.
Still I'll miss Pat because he checks out games the others would never talk about.

Honestly it'll play out similarly to the way the previous hires went. There's a ton of outrage until the hirings actually happen. Then it slowly dies down. It's a shame there is so much drama though. It's supposed to be a thread saying goodbye to Patrick and remembering good content that he brought but devolved into something else.
he says a lot of really ignorant stuff on the bombcast, and to be fair most of it is pretty harmless and entertaining.
the issue is that he doesn't seem to understand that a lot of people out there don't have the same kind of luxury he does to remain ignorant, and he sometimes has an attitude that comes across as extremely privileged and insensitive.

These are public figures who entertain for a living. They aren't friends at a party.
Dan is someone who is willing to eat shit and get shat on if it's funny.He is in an environment where the people around him and listening to him can make fun of him in a friendly manner and if there are enough people contesting him on his opinion he is willing to change is mind about things.

I'm pretty sure he already stated in a Quick Look that he would not eat shit because he didn't think he'd be able to keep it down. He might be able to lick up three feet of snail trail though.
As Jeff always qualifies, that's a literal snail trail, not "don't be gross" snail trail.

Only started watching/listening to GB stuff after Ryan died. This isn't meant to be a slight to him at all (respect the dead and all that), but I don't really get why he's so exalted. Now Vinny on the other hand.. him leaving the Bombcast sucks.
Dan is great though. He always gives off positive vibes and I'd love to hang out with the guy. Some of the complaints about him in here are ridiculous.
Very much so. One of the extremely rare and (relatively) well paid salaried positions in an already tiny industry which continues to rely more and more on underpaid freelancers. A couple EiC's have mentioned there's like 100+ serious applications for every one job.
The rarity of job openings is one of the reasons there's so much drama around it - it also doesn't help that any time there is one, all the new voices are up against dozens of industry vets due to a lack of career paths.
Oh, it is definitely an overreaction.
Gonna miss Patrick, he always did some fun stuff but it has to be hard to work alone especially with every other video feature on the site having 2 or more people. Hopefully he has fun wherever he ends up.

Ryan's influence on people is profound. Patrick especially. I see a bit of Ryan in Patrick all the time. None of the staff would be what they are now without him.
Maybe it's time for some introspection dude.

A substantial number of people in the GB community have made the community a scary place time and time again. It's always shocking to me given the attitudes of the people running the site. I really wonder how that happens.

Giant Bomb has never been great with staff transitions.

I like Patrick, but when I go to Giant Bomb, I'm not clicking on his articles. Not because I think he's a bad writer or unreasonable. I found myself agreeing with him a lot of the time I hear him talk. But when I go to Giant Bomb, what Patrick is doing isn't what I'm looking for. I'm not in the mood for those types of articles, I'm in the mood for something fun and entertaining.
I'm not saying they shouldn't have hired Patrick, I'm saying that I wasn't personally interested in what Patrick was doing there when he did his own thing. I think the only Patrick-centric series I've watched in his entire time at GB was his Spelunky stuff. And if you asked me what type of person I think would make Giant Bomb more enjoyable I would definitely rather have someone closer to Vinny or Dan over Patrick. Not because I don't like Patrick, but because I enjoy the aspects that a Vinny or Dan bring to Giant Bomb over what Patrick brings. After Patrick moved to Chicago it was like he was almost non-existent on the site to me, even though he obviously did a lot for GB since he's moved there.
It's just because when I go to GB and my two choices are a well written article or a video of Jeff and Dan playing some dumb video game, I'm always going to pick the two people playing the dumb video game, because that's why I enjoy GB. So obviously I'm going to want the next hire to be someone who is good at being funny while playing dumb video games over someone writing a well written article that I'm never going to look at.

oh i think it could and it would. remembering how they treated leigh alexander is a fucking embarassment, and it would almost be worse if it were someone like mary from gamespot because they would just be fawning and spooging all over her.
they could do more to publicly state that certain actions and attitudes from their fan base are unacceptable.
