Persona 4 |OT|

Oh yeah, quick question.

I'm at October 12th in the game right now... I understand the game ends sometime in January, and I just beat the
underground base
dungeon, about how far away from the end am I ? Is it realistic to think that I could complete the game in a dedicated weekend?

I haven't been this addicted to a game in a very long time. I never bothered with P3 so this feels like a pretty fresh experience even if they re-use a lot of the demons from SMT3.

Anyway I'm at the end of July now, just beat
Rise and Teddie's shadows
and doing some more investigating after
Morooka's death
.

Is Kanji really not worth maxing out? I think he ranks highest so far out of all my social links. Yukiko is pretty up there as well.

Theyre all "worth" maxing out just for the EXP bonus that you get when fusing Personae of that Arcana. So I don't think there's ever a waste to leveling up S.Links. Obviously there is more benefit if you level up your current party members since you get bonus "moves" in battle with those characters.

.... Just a clairfication: there's no reason to spend time with a S.Link after you've reached Lv 10, right? There's no benefits or extra scenes past their final rank, right?

That is correct.

And Kanji's is worth maxing out just for the story. He's an awesome dude.

Alright then I'm going to start on Kanji, he's one of the few I haven't touched yet in the game.

... I just started the hospital job, hells yeah I'm about to get a beej from the nurse! :lol

There's also a special sword you can get from the fishing guy in December that double's the exp you'll receive while it's equipped.

That sword is the bomb. There's nothing like that and an Upright Moon Arcana... That's like 13,000 XP a battle in the final dungeon.

Umm what is there to do on rainy days other than: fish, eat the diner, or go to the TV?

Are there any S.Links I can do?

Yeah, you can up Hermit on rainy days too. Just finish the mission and hold off on calling the fox.

Okay so I just opened up Izanami's dungeon. And then I thought about how much sacrifice is involved in P3's ending. Is this going to be equally hey-good-thing-we-did-that-but-shit-that's-depressing?

You mean always. Sun is always available on rainy days, as long as she would be available normally.

Also, battle usefulness generally goes something like (from best to worst) MC > Chie > Yukiko/Teddie > Yosuke > Kanji > Naoto

But, really, the game is easy enough that you should just use the characters you like and leave it at that.

Are you kidding? Naoto is an absolute BEAST in the last couple dungeons, using Blight and having Chie follow with Heat Wave (and later Agneyastra) will end most of your encounters right then and there.

If you take the time to level all them up, it's cool how balanced they made all the characters. All the characters have their good points. Although Kanji for me is probably the worst one, you can use Naoto for easy levelling at least. Sure beats P3 where I barely used the dog or the kid (or Junpei).

:lol :lol :lol

Spoilers for 10/29
just now watching the group date scene.
Damn this is hilarious and with Yosuke's voice! LOL seriously the voice acting and writing in this game are incredible. So funny!!

Kanji at the
beauty pagenant
"SUP!" :lol :lol :lol

Teddie!!!

Boy: "I'd hit it"

I have never laughed this much at a game's writing ever, ever! LOL

One thing that really bugs me about Persona 4 are the main characters Persona.

One thing I loved about Persona 1-3 is the story-within-a-story involving all the main characters story related Persona.

Naoto is a bit of a pain if you have SP issues, but you really shouldn't so late into the game.
I maxed Sun wicked early so I only vaguely remember her on rainy days.

Relaxing Wave. Seriously. I can't believe how long I was able to just drift along on B6 of that red dungeon.

Haha! I'm only on S.Link 3 or 4 but she's not that bad. Or more like, I feel that if it's hard there has to be a reward. I think she's just sad and hiding her good side like any good teenager. God I hope so at least :lol

On Port Island: The lecture about the Japanese origin gods at Port Island was really interesting. I hope that comes up later on in the story. Also, the cute student with glasses.. hmm.. something tells me we'll be visiting that place again. At least I hope so! And omg, the club.. Chie sat on my lap <3 It's good to be King!
I really hope Teddie is one. His fashion sense and stuck up attitude would kinda make sense :p

I'm really liking Rise's S.Link so far. She's so sympathetic. And the non-battle rewards are special <3
I might marry her, if she still wants to later on.

Naoto is only good for random battles, and everything he can do in those can be done better by the MC. He's not good for boss fights, which means you're basically taking three people + someone that can take a couple hits (if you get lucky). If you're not taking characters because you like them (and I 100% endorse taking your favorites), then it's really a better option to take someone else.

I would buy P3 a third time if they remade the game using all of P4s enhancements.

I would buy P3 a third time if they replaced
Chihiro's old portrait with her new one

all of your party members at the very least simply because of the battle benefits if not the experience to persona of those arcana.

Hermit? You can essentially finish dungeons in a single day once you have it around level 8.

Story-wise, I maintain that Moon, Emperor, Hanged Man, and Death are the best links in the game and therefore should be on your list.

After hitting level 88, the leveling slowed down too much for me to feasibly carry on. So, I went and took out the big bad and got the True Ending. It was a definite improvement.

Edit:
It also helped that I figured out when to guard before summons to yomi, which made the battle a breeze.

Just beat the game for a second time. The extra boss,
Maragret
wasn't anywhere near as hard as I expected. I didn't think I was overleveled or anything, but I might've been as I found the final boss only doing around 40-50 damage to my party.

Persona 4 still has this, definitely (at least, in the same way P3 did, I don't remember P1&2's sets offhand). It's all steeped in Japanese mythology, though, so it's not as immediately recognizable as the usual Greek stuff. Plus, it doesn't come into its own until late in the game. But it's definitely still there.

Hell, (end game spoilers)
the final battle has you, Izanagi, lighting a "lantern" to reveal the true Izanami just like the story goes. Plus, there's plenty of other connections, like how Izanagi gave birth to both Susano-o and Amateratsu, two of the other personas on your team.

Teddie's final Persona was an interesting choice... It makes sense that it's Ainu because he's kind of on the periphery of the human world.

End of the game time. Love this part because I go Fusion crazy :D

Hard part is sometimes the money issue in this one. I seemed to be incredibly wealthy in 3 and I'm BARELY scraping by at this point :(

I think I'm severely underleveled in
Naoto's
Dungeon. I'm about lvl 46 right now - is that too low? My pt members are much lower.

I just made
Beelzebub
with Resistance to Physical and able to revive after dieing via a Light attack (his weakness is Light). He also has Cool Breeze for Solo'ing goodness. I'm unstoppable, mangs.

You know people have made that same Persona to null everything, right? :p

That must take a lot of time and money  . I'm personally fine with all the resistance he has now. The only area that's could be a pain is Light and Wind. That's got to be a sick setup though, Null everything :lol

OK, what exactly do I have to do to unlock the game's Secret Boss.

- I'm on New Game+, I saw the True Ending last time.
- I'm on the very last day of the game (
3/20
)
- I've cleared all the secret bosses in the dungeons.

The FAQ says Igor was supposed to give me a special item? Guess that didn't happen.

I was in the 50s when I went through that dungeon. It's a lot easier than the previous one, imho, so if you're having difficulty with it, you probably are underleveled. If you haven't beaten some of the previous optional bosses, you might want to go back for a second run through those dungeons.

Did you max Empress S. Link before 3/19?

I was about 46 when starting that dungeon, and I made it through okay without having to grind. The first couple of floors are hard while you familiarize yourself with the enemies but once you figure out the right team and get the right persona on your MC, that dungeon is definitely doable.

I went through the whole dungeon without grinding and managed to level up my MC to 50 before the boss. The only difficulty was running out of SP, so it took me about 3 game-days.

You have to have maxed Empress before the last day too. But just in case he slipped it to you and you missed it, check the top floor of
Heaven

Yeah I maxed it, and no, it wasn't where it was supposed to be when I checked... But I found out what my problem was... Basically now I have to reload my last save in December and fight the December boss all over again and also
talk to all my friends again ARGH

Just FYI, here's what you need to do when you get to it:
-
On 3/20 when you go talk to Igor while it's raining, you need to reenter the Velvet Room after he gives you the Orb of Sight, to get the Invitation Card
- Also, from what I understand, you also need to max Empress and defeat all the secret bosses.
