...a tale of a young manipulative man, charming his way to power in order to defeat a shadowy menace... putting aside personal feelings of right; he uses his friends and peers to serve greater purpose: saving the world.

i'd love to see a return to the persona 2-style conversations, where you had to exploit the demons various personalities to various ends.
Sometimes, I like to imagine the various contacts everyone would have had in Persona 3...and it makes me sad because they're all so hilarious and awesome.

I got this from Amazon knowing full well it might ship late (did free shipping), which wouldn't be a problem because I have a lot of games to play right now, but it shipped yesterday! This will be my first Atlus game, so I'm excited to check it out.

I honestly don't get why I feel that way, haha. I mean, I love my Pokemon, so why don't I love collecting stuff for P2? :lol

But thanks, that makes me feel better. Maybe after I finish P4, I might try to go back and appreciate the system. :D

You know, thinking back on P2, I think it might have just been a bad first impression. I remember being horribly confused during the beginning of the game. I didn't realize how to use your Persona until like an hour in the game. I just kept attacking stuff physically. :lol

P2 was a weird one, because of the way you regenerate SP and the fact that all of a Persona's spells cost the same, you basically were always at full health and full SP by the next battle.

I enjoyed the fusion spells though, and especially the mutations.:D

Persona 1 and 2 are in an interesting spot in my hearts. When the game first came out, they were among the first couple RPGs I really played, even though I had been gaming since the NES. As a result, I didn't really understand and applied the same line of thought I had gained from playing Suikoden to them. So, I brute forced my way though my first few RPGs, which does not work for P1 and P2. As a result, they were too difficult for me to beat, and I found myself not enjoying playing them.

but whenever I'd put the controller down, step away from the game, and think back on what I had just played, I was always blown away by it. I love both of those games dearly, and really need to try playing 2 again soon and see if maybe I'm smart enough this time.

If you're not just let me know and I can help you out. EP more than IS, since I'm still learning all the ins and outs of each Persona for that one, but I can beat EP blindfolded by now.

Gladly. I'm sure a few starting pointer would be much appreciated when I get around to starting the game again.

You know, I think that was my problem in P2. I spent so much time just pushing things that I really never tried to understand the battle system. Lots of it also had to do with the fact that there were so many little choices that you made in the game, and after I looked in a FAQ, I always felt like I could NEVER play the game without one because there was just so much there.

First tip: If you value your sanity, don't do a Starting Persona Only challenge.

Still don't know what I was thinking...

I would love a Persona DS. I know that Devil Survivor game is coming, but it's not the same. Persona DS with quicksave/save anywhere would be great as you could just pick it up for a few minutes, knock out a few floors in a dungeon, and quickly continue with your day. The DS already has its share of dungeon crawler games and we all know how popular Pokemon is.

Personally I was never a fan of recruiting demons in the SMT games via conversation. In SMT Nocturne it seemed so random.

"Do you like potatoes or tomatoes?"
>>>Potatoes
Tomatoes

"Grrr, I like tomatoes! I won't join you!"

A bit of an exaggeration, but you get it.

That's kind of scary for me...I've got this weird relationship with handhelds, I can't really get into anything other than Pokemon. I seriously have a DS for Pokemon and a PSP so I can play my PS1 games on the go (and I NEVER use it).

So I guess I would like to see one on the DS, but I don't want to see it exclusively on a handheld. However, that seems to be the direction that LOTS of series are taking right now. :(

Or, "I love Potatoes! Can I have a million yen?"

They released a Devil Summoner title for the PSP in Japan that was actually a great game but I can't imagine it will ever make it over here. I know the director of SMT Nocturne (I think) was working on a sequel/spinoff of Folklore for the PSP but I'm not sure whatever happened to it.

While some of them were quite silly, Demon Negotiation has been a staple of the Main Line SMT series since the beginning (mostly). If anything Nocturne was the pinnacle of this system since the conversations were (again mostly) intrinsically tied to which "path" you chose.

I can relate. I'm just not much of a handheld gamer. I have a DS and the only game I have for it is Advance Wars which I don't even play. I just can't get into it, especially so if its some sort of RPG like Final Fantasy or Persona...

Just reading through the guide and it reminded me that you actually can have direct control over all your party members now! Definitely will be using this option exclusively.

I actually like not having control. It makes me feel like im the main character and not some omniscient god or something.

same, the flow of battle is also pretty quick so its not like you have to wait long to make your move again

But, you know, if I'm the leader, I should be able to give orders, yes? Like, I should be able to go "They're weak to ice, use Mabufu!" Which is what manual command allows me to do.

But I suppose it's moot since, for me, silent characters pull me out of the immersion rather than the opposite.

Tamanon said:
I'll probably only do full control on trickier fights, personally.
Yeah. I'm likely going to leave it on auto for normal fights, since those are always pointless and they'll go by faster and then I'll switch it for bosses.

Yeah. I'll be keeping team AI off until my second playthrough, which will probably be my hard run.

Maybe, but you'd be too busy fighting monsters to give exact commands :p

And there's no guarantee that the ppl you give orders to will listen. ^^

I too agree with this. Not to mention the the character AI helps maintain that whole I'm working with individuals angle. Also I'm not one to make speedy battles longer than they need to be.

If there were manual controls in P3, I can only imagine at several points in the game, Junpei would just stop taking orders from me.:lol

If you`re gonna play on Expert on your first run through, having manual control all the way through is a must, even for regular fights.

Amazon is listing December 16 as the ship date for my Social Link Expansion Pack. Anyone else have a date like this? I thought it was supposed to ship on the 9th with the game.

Not that the AI was bad in P3, i just prefer to have complete control over the outcome of battles. No more worrying about conserving sp among other annoying things the AI would do sometimes.

So you'd rather be some random country bumpkin and not an omniscient god who can control people at will?

Ok then.

Atlus, as much as I <3 you guys I must say this is the worst timing for releasing the game. I'm gonna have to keep the game at work so I don't play it at home instead of preparing for my final exams this week. :D

Not bad, just vague and clunky for what it was. It had a "Heal/buff" as your normal healer's role command, which meant Mitsuru and Yukari would go ape-shit with that debuff to ice/wind spells of theirs if they didnt heal for example. Very clunky.

never bother with strenght... it's useless, focus most if not all your point on TEC and
just use & abuse fusion skills... these in particular are your friend
water-fire-earth
fire-water-wind
wind-earth-fire
earth-wind-water

these deals a big amount of damage of the last kind so the first one deal big earth damage

ice-ice
lightining-lightining

same thing

fire-earth-maha fire
earth-fire-maha earth
wind-water-maha wind
water-wind-maha water

these instead attack all the enemies... using more powerfull maha spells result in more powerfull fusion spells and it's not uncommon to finish battles with a single cast of these
oh and get an autofire controller for the casino unless you want to spend 2 hours watching a slot spinning
oh yeah something i forgot to add... if you are a completionist just use a faq... the game is full of missable stuff tough none of them are particulary important... and get a persona with estoma,it will save you lot of useless random battle and make the hunt for rare demon a lot more easy!

YES! YES!

My copy should be flying over the Atlantic any day soon now :D

I loved Persona 3 , finished it about last week. It kept me busy from EU release till now.

So called "next-gen" consoles are untill today (and several months from now) a true disgrace for the jRPG genre.
At least I use a PS3 to play this awesomeness on, at least it's something :lol

You're almost right.

Best point layout is to switch between 2 TEC:1 VIT and 1 TEC:2 VIT each level. If you have a Persona that gives a TEC or VIT bonus, throw the second point into Agility or Luck.

Slots are good at first, but once you have a decent starting pool, I always found Bingo much better for big wins (Just make sure to hit start before you do anything else, to turn on Turbo Bingo, or else it takes FOREVER)

I don't want to bump an old P3:FES thread or start a new one so I figured this was a decent place to look for info. I'm like 4 hours into the game and still sort of feel a bit lost in what I'm supposed to be doing with the social stuff. Any tips for someone essentially at the starting point of Persona 3?

Do school social links while school is in session and others while it is not. It's also a good idea to work with the Social Links that share the Arcana of a persona in your possession at the time. That'll raise the number of points you get for hanging out with them. Also, don't worry too much. It's nearly impossible to get all the social links maxed without a guide, so just have fun with it.

Edit: Use the night to raise your charm, Courage, and Intelligence if you're not going to Tartarus.
