Persona 4 |OT|

Agent Icebeezy

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
Going out of town for a work trip. I'm finally going to open this damn game. Got it the day it came out. Sad shit, I know. Taking the PS3 with me so this, The Show, LBP2 and Valkyria Chronicles to hold me down.

Never had an issue with it on PS3 other than the location bar constantly being blank, played the entire game on PS3. Just regularly backup your PS2 save file just in case it gets corrupted as a few people have reported that.

Also played all of P3 on PS3 when that game first came out.

I played it completely on my PS3 as well and the only issue was the location bar was black, so you wouldn't know which floor of a dungeon you were in. Not that big of a deal for me, cause I never got lost in the dungeons.

No, they played on PS2. PS3 has the location bar bug mentioned twice above. PS2 games also have a rare chance of corrupting save files, so constantly backing them up is a good idea. I never saw it happen with P4, but I have seen it with Yakuza 2. Others have seen it with P3 and P4.

lol do not take this game with you if you actually want to get some work done

I've put over 120 hours into Persona 3 Fes. I know what I'm getting myself into, lol.

I have read tons of stories online about Persona 4 save files being corrupted while playing on a PS3.

Hence my comment about constantly backing up your save files just in case. Really easy to do on PS3 since you can make as many virtual PS2 mem cards as you want.

Yeah, saves regularly got corrupted on my PS3, but I made a habit of always saving in two or three slots, so I never lost any progress after the first time.

Oh god GAF, why did nobody tell me this sooner! Does the corruption depend on which PS3 model you use? I played Persona 4 without any problems whatsoever. Though maybe it was just luck

I dunno - I've seen it a few times won my 80 gig PS3 with Yakuza 2 and Persona 3, but not with Persona 4. Each time it came up, it said something about "file is corrupted, do you want to continue" or something to that effect. I always would cancel out and try again, and it would be fine but I had regular backups made on another virtual memcard (just copy the save over to the backup from the XMB). I think the issue is people would continue anyway after getting that message as they didn't realize what it was saying (due to hammering on X to just get through the process perhaps) and end up messing things up.

oh god, the Bad Bad Bath House scene. that's gonna be interesting to watch.

The trailer looks pretty good. Hope it doesn't disappoint.

Since my ps2 broke I used a ps2 emulator it worked fine so for all those people that have a strong enough computer I recommend it, just download pcsx2, put the game disk in and play, no worries.

Finished the game right now! I'll try to avoid hyperboles, but I only discovered the Persona series last summer (I've been posting my impressions on my Twitter page since then), and these are truly some of the best games I've ever played.

The setting is great, the soundtrack is amazing as expected (I will always love you, Shoji Meguro!) and the gameplay is everything I expected after playing P3P. Localization -- top notch voice work (as expected after P3), especially from Chie and Yosuke's voice actors.

The only backside for me is that I guessed the
killer's identity
before the middle of the game, even if
the game tried to fool me along the way
. But even so it's okay, because
he was not the real main enemy behind it all
.

I was sad that this was all we'd ever see of Persona 4 (it ends perfectly, hence no FES), so I'm really happy that an anime is coming. Nanako is going to be adorable in it!

I simply CANNOT wait for a Persona 5 announcement! Catherine will be a nice distraction until then (I'm importing it).

Got the
True Ending (I guess this is a spoiler?)
last month. About 130 hours of playtime. Prefer some elements of P3, some elements of P4. Both are amazing games, though.

After what had to be at least a hundred saves, I only had about 3-4 corrupted. As long as you save 2-3 times at once, it's really not an issue.

By the way, I have a question. If I have maxed out characteristics (Knowledge, Courage, etc,) would I still need a guide to complete all Social Links in a New Game + or is it easy enough to do without referring to one?

You still need to know the correct responses to make sure you max our the social links on the proper time schedule. The problem is that once summer vacation starts, you lose a lot of chances to meet with certain people... and then there are people who are only available on certain days.

Hmmm I really should start playing this. I've had it sitting on my shelf for months. I also haven't finished playing DDS either.

Hmmm, I better follow the guide then just to be safe. Thanks!

ok so i think im about halfway through -
just saved Rise and Teddy
, its late june now.

why does the metalworks shop never carry anything new? im mostly finding weapons/armor in the dungeons, or ordering stuff off the tv shopping channel on sundays. ive got lots of materials, but am i just selling those for more money? i even maxed the link with chie and have the ability to make a weapon somehow, but i dont see the option with this guy...with P3, id just check back everytime a month passed or so, but that's gotten me nowhere here. am i doing something wrong?

You have to sell him more strange crap before he starts making new stuff to sell to you.

Yes. Specifically, a certain number of "strange crap". Some items can take like 10+ of rare items.

ah, i was thinking that might be it, but you know JRPGs like to fuck with you if you dont hold onto the right shit...so any materials i have, i should just sell them outright then?

There are a few quests that use 'em but for the most part sell 'em ASAP.

Weapons generally aren't very essential, so I wouldn't worry about being underequipped. And maxing the S Link unlocks a persona fusion, not a weapon.

Also, popularity leads to intimacy. Most important P4 lesson.

ah, so i opened up the ability to fuse that persona...that's right, that's how it worked in 3 as well.

as for popularity - is that from test scores & personal characteristics, or do you mean the answers i give when building social links? cause i figure as long as i advance to the next level, i assume it's going well...but one quest i just mentioned said that's not enough, that you can get friend-zone'd if you don't play things the right way. i'm assuming no intimacy = no level 10?

That and to always trust a mysterious fox.

You don't need to romance anyone to max their S Link, and in fact in most cases it doesn't make it rank up any faster. And from what I recall it's impossible to reverse most (if not all) of the S Links in P4.

Today I will be playing this for the very first time! EXCITEMENT!!!

See you in three months for your thoughts!

I love P4, but god does that game drag on and on and on. I just did an NG+ for slaying Margaret(she went down easy!), and it took forever.

Could be worse. Could be Persona 3.

I like Persona 3 more. Everything feels fresh and original. P4 just builds on that.

But when P3 came out, there was nothing else like it. It's an alien landscape.

Also, when events in P3 happen, things happen. The game moves along at a pretty set pace.

I like Persona 3 too, it's just that there's a huge chunk of that game where you don't have any sort of goal from a story line perspective. You just go into Tartarus so you don't get thrashed by the next boss and not for any plot related reason.

I always felt like I had to keep up with the tower to be prepared for the next full moon. They kept up a pretty good sense of tension from that.

Almost nothing of consequence in that game happens until like October, I don't think that kind of "set" pace is really a plus.

I'm late to the discussion, but I might have something helpful. This happened to me both in P4 and Yakuza 2 on my 80GB unit. I had been using a virtual card that was imported from a physical PS2 card using the adapter. Someone on CAG suggested that I create a new virtual memory card on my system instead of using an imported one, and IIRC it never happened again after that. Also, sometimes my save file would be corrupted without a message warning about it. That was scary.

I started playing P4 again. Started back in October 2009, then picked it up again in June 2010 and now I'm hellbent on finishing it! I really love these characters; since I've taken so long to finish the game (and have occasionally watched an Endurance Run episode or 2), I feel like they've been around for the past 2 years. It's gonna be so weird when I finally finish it. :/
