Speaking as a former English major: plot and story are very different things.

All the insults I was throwing out like onion ring sasquatch, Fonzie and whatnot was actually just from a Canadian tv show. Keats and John being the only one's that recognized it. :p

Persona 5 isn't going to be announced next week, so at least we wont have to hear about how bad it is just yet.

Yeah I caught those.

Don't forget that i'm a Canadian too!

What where you're objectively wrong and having a hard time dealing with it? :p

Kidding aside, plot and story are not interchangeable, look that up in the dictionary.

There is no argument. I never mentioned plot. Read my posts (Carefully this time, ho hum!)

Nobody is wrong, because there is no disagreement, just a misunderstanding.

I thought you were saying that story and narrative weren't the same. You thought I was saying plot and story were the same.

See? It's a textbook Internet conversation. We're making a fuss about nothing!

I was just screwing around, apologies if anyone took it seriously. Thought onion ring sasquatch was over the top enough to where it obvious I was joking.

Yeah monster is on the list, it's got a lot of high reviews online.

Plus Karen was just so gosh darned charming that I gotta watch it.

That's been on my list for awhile, but I'll push it up now.

Laura Bailey is in it, too!

I had no idea she was Phi in VLR(never really pay attention to casting in games), but it's all I can hear when I listen to the podcast. :p

Was a great interview, and everyone sounded so much more relaxed than they had been with prior voice actors. :)

Been on mine for a while but it's like 70 episodes. ughhhhhh
Apparently the live action thing she mentioned is supposed to be a del Toro joint.

There were people mentioning plot, and throwing around 'story' passively(like most people do) while addressing all aspects of writing within a piece of fiction. I addressed it, you quoted me and said it was semantics, it wasn't.

Might wanna follow a bit of your own advice Broseph Stalin.

Let's drop it already if it was just a misunderstanding.

After about 10 mins sure, the intro is a big buggered (you can hear the obvious edits) cause I was pretty nervous.

The moment when you add one of the VO guests to a skype call and you're waiting for the connection to sync up is the worst, it feels like an eternity.

I am now 1000% more interested.

Also, have you asked Laura Bailey to come on the podcast over Twitter yet, guys? I'm going to ask her myself tonight if you haven't already.

We haven't asked her yet and I'm going to request you hold off as well, since for that to work she'd need to contact Levito (or me).

We have the next show or two lined up basically. Neither is an interview, timing is everything, and she is one actor we want that's very clearly busy. She's at D23 this weekend.

In due time!

You know what we haven't done in a while? PERSONA 5 PREDICTIONS. Specifically, not what we want to see, what think we will see.

I think the story will be back to being on a grand scale like in pre-P4 games.

I think the art will be modern (Unlike P4) but also colourful (Unlike P3). I think the game will take place in (Probably fictional) city. The theme colour will be white.

In terms of character designs, I think they will be very fashionably stylish. I also think the female characters will be.. prettier? I'm not sure what the word would be, but Soejima's more recent female characters have long eyelashes, curvy figures etc. etc. I think they'll look good though.

I think there will be a curveball character. Your Teddie or your Aigis or whatever. Teddie and Aigis are kind of so iconic to the games that they're in that I have no doubt they'll do it again.

For the soundtrack, I think it will be electro-rock. Kind of like DDS2, but less erratic. No idea why, I just think it will.

I think it won't be seamless. Structurally, I think it will be very similar to Persona 4, only with larger, more detailed areas.

I'll post more when I think of them.

Monster is...a'ight. It was good enough to make me watch the 70+ episodes but I don't go back to it to rewatch scenes or really recommend it to anyone. I think it's longer than it should be, although I'm not sure if I'd call it padded as even though it has a large number of episodes, a lot of characters are developed and details are given. I didn't think it was super interesting though and I thought the real motivation of the antagonist was kinda lame. Still a decent show though, and different.

We're not dead you just pick derp times to show up, it was pretty damn lively earlier :p

I know, those zombies sure came back up fast after we killed them.

But yea, you were there only for a few minutes while everyone was busy. The IRC was pretty active today. (That may or may not be because we used it as a SaltyBet discussing center for a few hours.)

Good stuff, dude!

Can you explain what you mean by the art being modern? I definitely agree on: Stylish art/attractive females, electronic score, curveball character.

For myself I do really think the Internet and connectivity will play a big part.

What if we see the return of the "Persona game". To fit in with the whole technology/connectivity theme,it could be presented as a phone app or something? Seems to similar too Devil Survivor, but it was just a random thought.

So, Soejima tried to do the opposite of P3 in P4. In P4 he wanted to make everything look kind of retro. One big example he gives is Chie's design. The way she dresses is very outdated, but the idea was to make it kind of ironically outdated and therefore cool. Another easy one is the school. As opposed to the super modern design with white corridors and the blue chairs, it's all wooden floors and whatnot.

I think P5 will be closer to P3 in that respect.

I'd never thought of this.

The current team's take on the Persona game could actually be pretty neat.

Oh this sounds like fun.

The persona 5 (main) protagonist will have a cool design.
-I'm positive that Soejima will specifically design the main protagonist in a style that makes them look really cool. All of the protagonists were painstakingly drawn in a way that evoked of a sense "cool." Yeah this is kind of a juvenile prediction, but i'm the leading authority when it comes to all matters relating to concept of cool, so trust me on this one!

The return of Philemon & Nyarlatotep
-P4A notwithstanding, it's about time they made their reappearance. A direct reference to Persona 1 & 2 is unlikely, but I can see them getting re-imagined in a way.

The return of the "Persona game"
-Adding to the previous point, they might bring back the "Persona game" but re-imagined. Maybe this time, it can be done via phone or electronic device.
EDIT: beaten :(

Cameos from previous Persona games.
-Cameos from previous Persona games have been the norm since Persona 2 so we should expect one here, even if it's really minor. I think it will be a step above something like a Teddie doll (too easy) and a step lower than P4s gekkougan high school trip.

The game will take place several years after Persona 4
-Self explanatory. I want them to move as far away as they can from the P4 gang.

This makes sense as P3 was in the big city.

Where P4 was a small town in bumblefuck.

It's a good time to do it with Igor most likely being gone, they have an opportunity to bring back a Philemon type character, if not the man himself.

The whole thing was opposite-y.

If you look at the skintones of the characters, P3's are all pale, whereas P4's all have a pinky-orange glow.

Yup. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the return of Philemon.

A large-ish city that's seamless could be cool as long as it's fast to get around specific areas.

Anyone think they'll handcraft the dungeons this time or make them random again?

Edit: I thought the P4 characters save Teddie had a brownish-orange hue. The hair colors were also more subdued compared to P3 so I wonder how P5's will be designed.

What if...hand crafted cool dungeons for the story, random dungeons for side quests except hand crafted ones for big/important ones?

Umm...well it'd be a step up but then I don't know what'd be stopping them from handcrafting all of them, like most other RPGs...

A seamless city will not happen, but a traversable city map may happen.

My guess for setting? Big city. OST will be jazzier than previous incarnations. Protagonists all still in high school, but maybe something involving multiple schools again.

Risette will definitely have a cameo in some way, as for others, I doubt it. I think Igor will return, but in what capacity, I'm unsure.

Dungeons will likely remain random, but I expect the fusion system to be even more simplified. SMTIV had a brilliant fusion system that allowed complete customization. I can't see them going backwards.

Oh I see. That'd probably be fine, although I do the look of P4's school much more.

That's a good point. Even if it's not that specifically, P4's fandom will be acknowledged somehow.

If be thrilled with a jazz OST. I was just thinking last night how I wish games had more jazz in their OSTs.

How about a small budget and different priorities? :p

I'm pretty sure Persona uses randomly generated dungeons because they think it adds replay value(the games are essentially designed for multiple playthroughs). It sounds good on paper but doesn't really work out in game. The dungeon crawling in P3/P4 are easily the worst parts about the game, randomly generated dungeons definitely play a big part in that.

Well I'm pretty sure it was due to different priorities, as handcrafted dungeons would have taken a lot more time than randomly generated ones.

We'll probably have to agree to disagree though.

I can definitely see Risette being in there somewhere, even if she just shows up on an ad on TV.

If Kitajoh is involved in the OST, then jazz is almost guaranteed. I don't think Meguro will lean on it too heavily though. He loves his guitars.

Play Raidou 2 if you haven't.

Also I don't see this happening but I had the idea of Personas beside or towering behind the characters constantly in battle, instead of appearing for a second to do their attack and then disappearing. They'd have to change the summon sequence to be more like an attack or "do my bidding" sequence but I think it'd be cool.

This is what I'm hoping for. Persona 3 took place in the city, but It never really had that urban feel to me. I was hoping for a big "Uptown" kind of setting to show up, but it never really emerged aside from the school.

I doubt Igor is going to show up again. They seem adamant about not replacing his voice actor. (Unless they recorded new lines for Arena and I never noticed.) They'll probably introduce some sort of successor for him.

I can't remember the exact quote or where it came from (for all I know, I could be making it up) but I remember Meguro saying he was personally moving towards jazz in his personal works. Dude does love a good saxophone.

The sax in the Reincarnation version of Specialist is sooooo good.

That's Kitajoh.

And yes, it is. I love it.

You should listen to the Trauma Team OST. It is similarly good.

Hm.

I can't say I've ever seen that anywhere, but even so, I'll believe it when I see it. All his recent stuff outside of Strange Journey (Which is stretching 'recent') has been standard Meguro. Which is a great thing, obviously.

cjkeats

I've had a suspicion of a more jazzy OST for a while. I wouldn't complain about that, but I'd rather a more "standard Meguro" soundtrack.

You think we'll get a new voice or see a return of either Yumi/Shihoko/LJ, or a triple team of them like P4 The Animation? Or the return of some of the lesser used voices like Shuhei or Mayumi?

I think new.

Soriku

Junior Member
What does "standard Meguro" mean? The dude has employed several styles. Even the OST from Persona 3 to 4 is pretty different. Some of Catherine's tracks sounds similar to Persona 4 I guess but even that is different.

He did say if there was a Persona 5 (lol) and that it was different he'd also try to take the music in a different direction.

Edit: Oh god Saki Konishi is alive and worked on SMT IV.
