I don't even understand the attraction for Aigis and Naoto though. Both are cute, but I never got the whole sexual obsession some fans have for them. If it was Rise, I would understand since that's part of her character, but Aigis is an emotionless robot for most of P3 and Naoto dresses like a male and has gender confusion issues. Not really sexy.

Invertible nature of the internet combined with Aigis and Naoto being among the most popular characters in the franchise.

"the persona community ot is really weird and creepy" -the rest of gaf

At least we're on topic, not breaking rules, not linking to porn, and only discussing the illogical nature of weird stuff instead of actually posting weird stuff!!

And before you ask, yes, I can justify anything....>_>;

To be fair, I've never understood the popularity of traps/reverse traps in otaku culture.

Internet and otakus are weird. That's all the explanation there is :/ I myself never understood the waifu wars, I liked all of the characters (Ken is meh to me).

...you're going to have to explain why it's offensive to the slow people like me. Please?

I'm friends with two MTF transgendered women, and both of them object the use of that word due to the implication that someone who cross-dresses or is transgendered is a "trap," or is trying to trick people into sleeping with them by lying about their genitalia (never mind the fact that gender is not a physical concept). It has the same connotations as calling someone a f*g; it's almost purely used as an insult and comes across as mean-spirited.

I can vouch for this, being a transgendered woman myself. I don't think anyone meant it intentionally as an insult, but just keep in mind that its usually associated with the worst of the worst on the internet (I.E. 4chan, Sankaku) and not considered polite conversation at all.

As ridiculous as this is going to sound, I thought you were objecting to the word otaku.

....

Go me. At least I learned something today .-.

Could you please explain this to me? I'm not quite sure what you're trying to get at.

One's gender is defined by what one identifies as. Even if you're biologically a male, if you identify as a female then your gender is female and can easily be legally changed as such (at least in Canada it is).

"Cisgender" refers to one who identifies as their biological sex and is heterosexual. "Transgender" refers to one who identifies as a gender other than their biological sex and whose sexuality is dependent on whatever they identify as (i.e. Someone who is biologically male and is attracted to females but identifies as female is considered to be homosexual, as far as my knowledge).

Scrafty is referring to the concept that Gender is imbued by social dynamics that create roles for the sexes. Gender in itself does not exist as a physical reality, but is a consequence of (generally speaking) the "average" biological, neurological and instinctual differences between the sexes.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. That's the one area my knowledge has always been a little foggy in.

Actually, I completely misunderstood you. >.<; You were right to begin with. I blame it being a long day. >_>;

Someone who identifies as female dating another female would indeed be a homosexual relationship, as the two people in the relationship would be expecting such gender roles in place.

Persona 4: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold Developers Talk New Characters And Changes

Shooting characters that can fight from a distance are essentially quirky [to use,] and there are plenty of them.” says Fukumoto. “I wanted to do away with that, as we’re going for a shooting character that is easy to use this time around. For this reason, those who are using [Yukari] for the first time will have a much easier time.
“Having characters be strong isn’t a bad thing, but we can’t have it to a level where other characters can’t fight against them normally, so we’re adjusting such parts accordingly,” Fukumoto elaborates. “To a degree, you can fight the same way you did in the previous game, but I think you might have to make some changes [to your approach] when it comes to fighting against top-ranked players.”

“Persona 4 Arena is fundamentally adjusted through an upper-balanace, so rather than simply making stronger parts weaker, we adjust the cumbersome strong parts, instead,” Fukumoto concludes.

I don't want to drive the thread too off topic, and this is by no means an appropriate media to discuss such issues, but this is where I always tend to get lost in these discussions. I don't understand the concept of identity in gender. I would love to discuss this in perhaps another form of communication, to possibly impart some sort of understanding in myself, but for now, I feel as it is for the best of everyone to simply let it drop.

It can be a hard concept to grasp if you've never dealt with it before. Most people innately learn through childhood to associate their gender with their sex, and separating the two is the source of confusion.

In contrast, someone with Gender Dysphoria would not make that association, and thus be aware of the differences right away on some level.

I do too :'(

We all do. Gematsu posts scans a lot of the time and Siliconera is just... slower than average. :(

So when you refer to "gender" you meaning is more along the lines of "gender roles"?

Correct. It is mostly a social construct, but influenced by one's biological sex.

Fixed. I sure do love full page pick up truck ads when looking for game news!

The place started out great, but it becomes worse all the time.

Siliconera is one of the few sites that will never leave my blacklist for ad-blocking. They're as bad as some Curse websites. :(

According to Fukumoto, Yu Narukami was the most popular character by a landslide during location tests, followed by Persona 4’s Chie Satonaka. Dengeki asks if it’s true that Narukami has changed quite a bit from the previous game.

"That’s correct. We’ve made some adjustments to characters who were on the stronger side in the previous game,” says Fukumoto. “However, Narukami will be getting a new special attack and changes in action, so we could be seeing a more versatile Narukami as compared to before.”

While Narukami will be getting a fair share of adjustments, Dengeki asks which character has been adjusted the most, thus far.

Very nice, I like their balancing mindset.

I was just tinking to myself earlier today how surprising it is that Sal is still willing to just throw that stuff up.

It made sense when he was starting out, I guess. The site is totally still small time, but it seems like they've gained enough of an audience that they'd want to start covering their asses legally.

Very nice, I like their balancing mindset.

Yep. Dacidbro basically said that on the podcast. No one really needs to be weaker so much as the low tier needs to be strengthened.

I'm really interested to see how Narukami, Mitsuru and Aigis turn out in the final cut.

Siliconera's always so slow with this stuff. I miss Andriasang.

QFT. Never found a worthy substitute for that site and probably never will.
Very nice, I like their balancing mindset.

Developers usually say that. But historically in most fighters, it's pretty much everyone getting nerfed while getting new tools and tricks.

Most newer versions of games' top tiers can't are actually pretty weak compared to their first games', haha.
In those interviews I always feel like they mean that strong is good, but it'll be strong relative to the entire cast for that game.

As long as Arc doesn't do to Mitsuru what Nintendo did to Ganon between Melee and Brawl, I have faith in their nerfs.

I agree with some, maybe not others, but I believe in their stuff.

I miss good Ganon :(

I'm pretty into Shadow Labrys pretty much just getting buffs so far; we'll see if that translates to the final release.

So far, with the loketests, I like the vast majority of what I've seen in terms of changes. Almost every character is not just getting buffed or nerfed, but fundamentally and minutiously altered with different properties, new tools and such.

I haven't gone to Gematsu much. I feel like some of their articles jump to assumptions on what's to come.

The changes do look pretty nice. I'm happy to see all these new moves since it's keeping existing characters feeling fresh.
Pretty happy at Yu's changes. The stuff that's gone was expected, but now his playstyle doesn't sound so stale. It's more diverse at least.

They play off hype. Ever since that one Famitsu thread that was hijacked by anime GAF, they make sure to mention P5 whenever they get the slightest chance .

Eh. Maybe I'll be more indepth some time later today. Not in the mood to truly think right now.

A general outline I was thinking, is that the protagonist could be your typical 2nd year in high school male or female. The gender you do not pick becomes your best friend in the same year as you. Also, a 1st year and a 3rd year are also on your team, so 4 high school aged kids. Then you got two pre teens, two college aged characters, a woman in her late 30's, early 40's. I would make this woman the only cameo character, Maki Sonomura from Persona 1 and 2:

And finally, a badass elderly man.

so in total, two preteens, male and female, four high school students, 2 male 2 female, two college age characters, one 30-40 age female, and one old man.

10 party members

So...Final Fantasy.

Aigis's max social link scene is indeed very creepy, especially in male protag context >_>
One more reason to justify female protag.

I had one more visit to max out her as well. Sucks that I missed it.
Believe me, it doesn't,
She turns into creepy stalker mode saying that even if you die and even when everyone else has died she'll never ever leave your side. Then proceeds to ask you to touch her components so you'll forever be burned onto her and she's never going to remove it... I'm pretty sure she hides your body in her closet and stares at it 22 hours a day when you die.

Mitsuru S-Link also not much better if you ask me, at least certain option when you dating her make it worth though.

It's love baby
I'm almost 100% positive this is incorrect. I think the only ones that behave like this in 3 are Sun and Devil...

Its does, guide can confirm.

The Aeon Arcana Social Link is represented by SEES member Aigis, and the Social Link can be initiated after December 30th. Unlike other SEES related Social Links, however, the Protagonist does not require any achievement in either Academics, Charm, or Courage to date Aigis. The Aeon Arcana powers up every time the Protagonist interacts with Aigis, where he helps her understand the concept of life, and her confused feelings towards the Protagonist and herself.

It'd be extremely difficult to max it out otherwise. Most players have Mitsuru's social link at this point too.

Yeah I know, which is weird as every max link guide I've seen says the opposite of this, and I'm pretty sure I've "spent time" with her once which almost caused me to miss her the first time I played FES...

Dammit, now I need to go faster in my playthrough of 3P I started yesterday, only on 5/31. :p

Hrm, ok the guide has to be incorrect at that part then looking at the calendar section. Learn something new every day. :D
