A question, since many of you are more acquainted with the anime industry than I:
Just how worried should I be about the quality of the new Sailor Moon series given that (A) it was delayed like half a year, (B) it still has no concrete release date besides "sometime in January, probably", (C) literally no media for it has been released beyond saying that this one pop group is doing the theme song, and (D) it's a nico video exclusive? Like, these are pretty big red flags, right?

If only there were a thread for that very topic...

Was so excited to see a Sailor Moon remake when I first heard news about it, since this and Dragon Ball Z back to back before school got me into anime back in what I call, "the day".

But yeah, with all those red flags, dooooooooooooooooooooooooomed.

I guess I do like Naoto a lot, but her stuff in the investigation is mostly terrible. I really dislike how she speaks like a robot in some scenes. I'd be interested to know if that's down to the translation or the original script. She's a lot better in the day to day scenes.

I also dislike how a lot of fans portray her. It's kind of like how everyone simplifies Chie. I feel like fans latch onto one thing and then interpret the character solely from that.

If I remember rightly, we actually agreed on Yukiko. Great design, but in execution, a pretty humdrum character.

This isn't a simple "this character is bad" kind of post, just not someone that I ever found to be particularly relatable.

Correct!

I don't really find anything about her likeable or interesting, unlike Naoto, Chie and Rise. She's the weakest of the ladies to me, by far.

Bloody great design though. So stylish.

She's really hampered by the fact that she's almost always used as an expository device.

Seems to be about half and half. She tends to converse like a guy in the Japanese version, which is rather to-the-point like. It's... pedantic, like how I speak. I can see where the robot speak part would come from.

I wish they would have written her to speak more like an actual person might do.

It's even weirder because it doesn't happen outside of the investigation.

But her way of talking makes sense. When in "story mode", she's probably in her investigation mode. She's someone that grew up wanting to be a detective, so she probably read a ton of stuff and is emulating characters she grew up with. When someone startles her or gets her out of her comfort zone, the facade cracks.

I think she's one of the most interesting characters because of that. The english VA for the games did a good job of nailing that part, the anime VA, not so much.

That's the thing; She does speak how an actual person would speak in her situation. It's not much different then from how I speak, for example. Except I'm slightly more formal like Yukiko.

People acting in a certain way under specific circumstances that reflects a value they wish to see in themselves? I wish there was a term for that, maybe Carl Jung wrote about it? Nah, I doubt it has a formal name.

I still maintain that part of it is badly written dialogue. A lot of it doesn't sound natural at all. Too expository.

You're right that that's an interesting aspect of her character though.

Core principles that a lot of the thematic elements of Persona are based upon? Nope, we've never heard of it.

There was an "after party" for the P3 movie. LJ posted a picture of the cake.

I'd rather hear why she likes Rise to be honest...
Because Kazzy has excellent taste. Except for the whole Yosuke thing.

Hey Persona GAF,

I just picked up a Vita and have really gotten into JRPGs recently for the first time in a long time. I grabbed P4G already but I was wondering if I should grab P3P first before I play through 4. Can't beat the price on PSN for it really and it looks interesting to me. Worth it? Or just skip it and go straight into 4?

I played 4 first, and then 3. There are some references, but nothing that really makes a big difference. Also, P3P was released after P4, and has some P4 references.

Play both, but the order doesn't matter that much, imo.

If you can play P3 FES on PS2 or PS3 via PSN, I'd do that first so that you can experience the original presentation of the game. Otherwise, P3P is still an amazing experience and I would absolutely recommend it. P4(G) is the "sequel" to P3, but the connections between the two are more like cameos more than anything else. You can play them in order or not.

Either way, get ready for some truly incredible games. :D

The two game's stories aren't connected so it doesn't really matter which you go for first, I personally like P4G because they fixed a lot of the annoying PS2 era Jrpg's gameplay issues without sacrificing quality. In P3P they fixed A LOT of problems, but sadly the quality of the game took a hit. If you wanna play P3 I would recommend P3FES

P.S. I played P4 first then P3

Up to you. The story is standalone, so doesn't matter which one you start with.

Of course, there are some references in P4 that you can only pick up after you have played some P3.

Personally I started with P3FES when it was first available on the US PSN store for 10 bucks (back then, I just joined the console family and brought a PS3. I was like...how come so many people are so excited about this game coming out? Well, if so many people give their nod of approval, it must be pretty decent)

Unknowningly, I sunk like over a hundred hours into it. After completing the game, I then started watching Persona 4 the Animation (as a continuation) and enjoyed it very much, then the wait began for the release of P4A and P4G, and from there, I was truly hooked to the series.

Again, it's your call. I'll personally recommend starting from P3P before moving on to P4G though, since P4G IS more polished with game mechanics and stuff and you might not be too used to it going from P4G back to P3P.

I'd say get FES if you can, it makes for a better first playthrough. The way the character models perform actions vs just seeing it in text (P3P is more of a visual novel in order to work on the PSP) just makes the presentation for me. Seeing a certain character dancing awkwardly is much funnier than just reading text that they're dancing awkwardly, for a not-really-spoliery example. P3P does make some improvements in the gameplay department (like actually being able to directly control the AI yourself rather than just basic commands), but I'd still definitely suggest FES over P3P for a first playthrough unless there's zero access to a PS2 or PS3, then start on Portable and look up some of the key scenes from the console game when you finish. Since I already played through FES I already know the stuff I'm missing, so the gimped presentation of P3P doesn't bother me personally. It's just not first playthrough material imo.

In terms of order between P3 and P4 on what to play, you can go either way. P4 has some P3 references, and P3P has some P4 ones, but the two are mostly their own thing and none of those references are spoilers to anything big.

Neat update on the P3M site for today: A look at Port Island Station with Gekkoukan High School in the background.

These concept pieces are really cool, showing more of the areas from the game and how they are interconnected. Aniplex USA needs to hurry their asses up and release this movie!

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I will get it for the PS3 then. Running out of space fast on my Vita anyways! Can't wait to dig into them after so much hype on GAF.

EDIT: Wow 10 bucks?? Mine!
