Considering people were saying it would be impossible to make Rise a fighter, and now she's in, I think it's kinda short sighted to say that it's impossible for Fuuka to be made into a fighter. I think ASW are creative enough to pull something off. Plus, ASW originally wanted to make Dojima/Nanako a fighter. Think about how the hell that would work at all, yet ASW still wanted to do it.

But yeah, her popularity compared to Rise is the main barrier of entry. She's one of my favorite SEES characters, but I feel I'm one of the few Fuuka fans out there. That and they don't really have a reason to do it. We have enough P3 characters, in a game titled Persona 4 Arena, as it is. Can't have the P3 cast outnumber the P4 cast (one of the reasons why I think Rise became playable).

It has never been anything but stupid to say Rise couldn't work. They always had the idol motif. Rise is leagues more popular, sure, but it's the former that puts the kibosh on a Fuuka, not the latter. The designers have nothing to play with.

The idol thing is an aspect of Rise's character they can embellish and they seem to have made good use of it. With Fuuka they'd need to pull something out of thin-air.

I love Fuuka, as you all should know.

I don't know if Fuuka protecting herself with her Persona is more of an embellishment than completely redesigning Himiko, considering that shielding people is a thing that Fuuka's Persona is established to actually do.

By defensive I meant like a parry type character, like Exdeath in Dissidia or something.

And it's fine if you don't actually like Fuuka enough to be playable, she's almost certainly one of the least popular party members of P3 + 4, but beyond that I don't see any reason why she shouldn't beyond personal distaste or apathy, and those reasons certainly didn't stop Ken Amada from being playable with a complete redesign. It's not a question of impossibility, it's a question of desirability. Second thing is perfectly reasonable (though I still think it's wrong to leave her out) but the first I reject completely.

And I don't even like Fuuka, what am I doing.

With all due respect, I think it's a little disingenuous to predicate your argument on desirability. There are several practical things to consider when adding a character to arena. Moveset potential and feasibility are HUGE factors to consider. According to Wada, creating fighters with a unique sense of style was P4A's mission statement. Bringing the skills they used in Persona 3/4 to life and making that an integral part of their moveset was also an important. With that in mind, it's clear that Fuuka simply does not lend herself to being a playable fighter in Arena. Her moveset potential is practically nonexistent; I mean it's pretty telling when nobody can't think of serious moves for her normal attacks. It's a result of her character being too damn barren (especially when compared to the rest of the Persona cast.) On the Persona front, there's nothing she does that Rise doesn't.

With Rise, they could fall back on the fact that she's an idol (and the fact that her Persona can simply do more things than Fuuka's). Fuuka has next to nothing on the physical front, and is limited on the Persona front. Even if she got a completely redesigned Persona, it would be difficult to come up with a moveset for Fuuka herself (can you think of regular skills for Fuuka to use?). I'm not even hating on her character; her character just isn't conducive to a fighting game.

Incidentally, popularity didn't affect Ken's inclusion in Arena, because had an entire moveset to draw from (and Koromaru, to sweeten to deal). Fuuka simply can't be compared to him. I'm fairly certain that Fuuka was decently popular in Japan (if the Persona popularity poll is anything to go by)

EDIT: Wait, since when could Fuuka's Persona shield people? It learned a set number of scanning related skills, and outside oracle, it had the same skillset as Rise's Persona.

Going from Persona 4G to Persona 3 Portable is jarring. I had no idea you couldn't navigate freely unless you're in combat areas. Also the sound quality coming from the Vita speakers is notably crackly. You can definitely tell this one is rough around the edges and the sequel improved upon it.

Creepy kid coming into my room at night was one of those times I wanted more dialogue options, such as "Get the fuck out."

Not feeling it yet but I think it's more from a technical aspect. Story is alright so far.

Should have played FES!

It's kind of been an on-and-off characteristic of it. Never really mentioned in the original game, but it's something it apparently could always do. She uses it in the P3 movie right after summoning, and it comes up in Persona 4 Arena as well. I think it was in the manga too if I recall correctly.

Did I just miss a sale on that?

But I prefer playing on a handheld.

It's still on sale

If you want my opinion, playing P3:FES is the best way to experience the male protagonist's story. The improved visuals and visible character models add a lot to the game, and there's a bonus epilogue called the Answer that's worth checking out as well. If you're playing as the male protagonist on the portable version, then you're probably not going to play the same 60-70 hour game on the PS3(even if it's ideal), and you're even less likely to experience the female protagonist's route (which is very good)

The way I see it, your best course of action would be playing the male protagonist's path on the PS3 version and then experiencing the female protagonist's path on the PSP version.

That's just my 2 cents.

This!

Portable has its' strengths but I just don't think I could deal with that being the way to experience that story for the first time.

Counter viewpoint regarding playing the answer- play FES...youtube the cutscenes for the answer. Its a few hours of cutscenes but a LOT more gameplay, very grindy, and 25-30 hours for most people. I personally prefer just the cutscenes because i dont think youll be missing much, but thats just my view...

But yeah. Male for FES, Female for P3P.

Makes sense due to
the shadows in this game being fakes created by ME. If Adachi and Elizabeth are outsiders forcing themselves in, then they wouldn't have a shadow.

I don't think that reasoning is correct. Ken Amada, Junpei and Yukari are also outsiders forcing themselves in (which is why they do not appear in the new TV montage that Yu watches in the beginning, and might be why they do not appear as silhouettes in the background when Sho is speaking to Shadow Labrys).

It could be because of what they are instead.

Yes, that is more likely. Plus, I think the primary roles of the Shadows are to cause psychological damage and confusion towards the ones they represent, which would have absolutely no effect on those two characters.

If that stick supported PS4 (which it most likely does not), I would definitely get it.

True. I thought the characters you mentioned were shown there, but I guess not.

P4G epilogue spoilers:

Didn't Dojima say Adachi was a model prisoner during the epilogue? I guess that means he was able to sneak out with no one noticing, and the events of P4AU must have changed him. Otherwise the IT would still be worried about him.

Now that we have the complete roster, what do you guys think the other modes are?

There are 5 others??

http://p-atlus.jp/p4u2/mode/

- Score Attack
- Arcade Mode
- Versus Mode
- Training Mode / Lesson Mode
- Network Mode

Or anything else. Doesn't meant they're new.

Everyone in Inaba except for Persona users have vanished in Ultimax. People keep mentioning how
Adachi somehow snuck out
without considering this point, or the fact that Persona users are fighting in the real world.

And I think the dialogue between the IT and even the Shadow Ops clearly indicate
that they're very wary of him.

We can fit in modes from P4A to occupy the slots. Sorry but I don't expect anything new.

Unrelated:

Based Atlus can read my mind. Narukami trailer came out and I was disappointed (despite not having expectations; don't know why), then the
Adachi
trailer came out and I was reinvigorated.

Would be super kool if they were all new modes, but thats probably asking a bit to much. I agree, it probably is just the typical modes that you guys mentioned above.

Then again, we still have two months left, who know's what sort of surprises will come out way.

Spoiler
Did
Adachi just throw Labrys into the TV as one of his specials??? That is super badass.

How is persona 4 on the PS3? I think I might finally get it. I was hoping for P4G coming to ps4 or ps3 :/

Golden's additions are great, but not essential to enjoying the game.

The only real downers are Random skill inheritance during fusion and that your final party member is ass.

Technically speaking, I don't know, but I haven't heard of any major issues.

That
Adachi
trailer is pretty wonderful, really curious to see how
he's out of jail/back to his murderous self.

Everything about that
Adachi
trailer is awesome. Specially those first 30 seconds. And that figure? Oh, dear god, that figure is amazing.

How was the PSC episode? I couldn't watch it :(
