In fact, I'm fairly sure a significant portion of the interrogation scene will be done in-game, going by the difficulty selection screen.

I just bought (pre-ordered) the LE for P5.

Why did I do this? Goddamnit.

Sorry, had to vent and found no other place that I could say that.

No........ I meant that I will get my PS3 version first.

I understand that I might didn't make this clearly but come on

Well...in your previous post you went "I'll be getting the XB1 before the PS4 so I'm probably going to double dip."

There wasn't any mention of the PS3 in that post so that's why some people were going ?????

As for the animation bit, I'm fine with them mixing it up with in-game models and stuff, but I really hope that we will get a gallery viewer again for cutscenes, soundtracks and stuff. That was a part of Persona 4 Golden that I really enjoy (I really like revisiting story content so games like Danganronpa really scratch that itch).

I mean, I thought it's public knowledge so that's why I skipped it, and cross platform cross save was never a thing.

But never mind, my fault for being unclear

Pyramid run scene best scene of all time!

Of all time, Dantis!
It's not, like, upsetting that it's in there, but it's one of those dumb and pointless scenes that Persona puts in just because lol anime.

Its presence isn't a bad thing, but I wouldn't say that it supports anime cutscenes over in-engine scenes.

Honestly. I was thinking they put it in as a blatant Indiana Jones shoutout, not anime. :p

Did the development team ever mention anything about the main character dying and it's game over? Please tell me they got rid of that feature that should never exist.

MC dying = game over has been dropped from pretty much every recent Atlus game aside from critical mode in PQ. If it's in P5, I'd expect it to be optional and tied to difficulty.

Oh yeah, forgot recent Atlus games have been dropping that. That's good to hear.

Say, I have a question. When this game get's released, and seeing the many improvements it'll have over it's predecessors, do you think it'll be hard to go back to previous Persona games?

I think P4G and probably P3P are gonna still be safe.

The real question is how doomed (or "ruined", if you prefer :p) P1 and P2 will be after P5's features spoil us rotten.

There was also an old Lupin III anime where they rob one of the pyramids in the intro. I assumed it was an homage to that?

Wouldn't be surprise if it's a homage to both, actually. Persona team loves their homages, after all.

Not any more than they already are. Persona 2 doesn't hold up well in the gameplay department at all, and Persona 1 will always be the overzealous ambitious but slightly clunky game that it is.

The only game that might be hard to go back to is Persona 3 FES because of a lack of UI improvements from Persona 4 onward. And that's already kind of the case so...

Never underestimate how player-unfriendly something can get! :p

Also I had a hard enough time with FES after I'd only played P4 vanilla. Going back to it again's gonna be a nightmare without NG+.

P2 is freaking awesome compared to the clunky mess P1 was mechanics wise.

P3 was great because you couldn't control your characters. Every Tentafroo was a gift from an angel.

It's still a bit baffling that we don't have a Persona 3 ultimate edition that combines the presentation and Answer epilogue of FES with the feMC route and gameplay improvements of Portable. Especially after how much Atlus decided to milk that entry with PQ and it's series of films. But then again, Atlus and baffling kind of go hand-in-hand sometimes.

I don't think it's baffling at all. The game came out a decade ago and it already received two remakes.

Every Marin Karin was punctuated by the snap of a controller because fucking hell stop trying to make the enemy love you Mitsuru.

As much as I want it, I get it.

It's already been remade twice, and after the third time, when would they stop doing remakes?

Everyone knows that humility she lays on thick in Arena is just a front. Deep down, she's a total narcissist.

:p

I'm going to use this opportunity to tell everyone to watch Castle of Cagliostro, it's almost "required reading" before P5 comes out.

I am required to do no such thing!

I might get to it by February.

You don't like anime cutscenes and that's fine, but they undeniable serve a purpose. There are just some moments you can't sell with ingame assets. Faster, more dynamic scenes (ie: see both of the running scenes), varied angles, stronger closups, more detailed facial expressions and stylish transitions. All of these are better handled with anime cutscenes.

Think about it from another angle. Would the awakening scenes from P3 or P4 would be nearly as good if recreated with P5 style ingame assets. There's no way. Even Persona 3's incredibly low budget Awakening cutscene was extremely striking and hella memorable.

You want proof that anime cutscenes trump ingame assets? Just look at [THAT P4 spoiler]
how awkward that scene where Adachi shoots past Yu's head looks.
Those models were not meant to be seen that up close.

God forbid they cut garbage like the pyramid run scene.

There's a small part of me that wonders if the interrogation is (Potential Spoilers)
a flash forward, setting up a flash back to the start of the game. The part where she yells, "Tell me, how did you learn about that place" and the MC smiles just kinda proves it to me. Plus, if the difficulty menu shows the MC all beaten up on the ground, I doubt he'd get treatment like that just for fighting a stalker.

My guess is
Starts with the interrogation scene > solo dungeon at the casino with the protagonist > gets caught > back to the interrogation scene > select difficulty > jump back to the start of the game.

I wondered about that solo part too, but I hadn't connected it. Good catch.

I guess maybe it could be in any order, but the short jist is that it'd be this trope before the difficulty select. :p

Well, the main question there would be why he's "solo". I wonder if it's:
He tries to go after the casino before he teams up with Morgana and the others? It'd make sense too, since we see that anime scene in the first gameplay trailer where he jumps out of the glass window and the police catch him. But that'd be odd since then the police would know it's him. Either way, the Casino is massively important. I definitely think you're right in that the scenes we see there and the solo fight are our intro to the game. Then you get the interrogation with the difficulty select.

If memory serves, there was a whole saturn game about Lupin escaping a pyramid. Come to think of it, I think there was some gag in it where he went to space too. Coincidence???

You know, if they were going to go this whole Lupin route, I kind of wish Ryuji would have been a bit more of a Jigen parallel. I guess you can't have that since the MC really isn't anything like Lupin at all. Still, would have been nice to have a marksman.

If anything, I'm going to guess that the Goro is going to be the Jigan of the group, with Sae Niijima as the Zenigata. I know he already overlaps with Zenigata, what with being a detective and everything, but considering that he joins the Phantom Thieves I'm guessing that he start out as the Zenigata and after he aligns with them Sae takes over that role in full.

Watching the persona stalker club they recap the E3 gameplay and in the Jun Fukuyama (whatever his name is) sections the PV04 vocal theme sounds clearer but i cant make any of the lyrics.

And still thinking vocal PV02 theme <<<<<<< vocal PV04 theme.
Lyn is killing it in that one , get me more pumped for battle

Really hope we can hear that song more than once in the game (more than a boss battle theme)

PD : See Teddie using a phantom mask make me sad for some reason , looks like that dude who gets old and get dressed like a teenager trying to be relevant hahahaha kidding but go home already Teddie.

Next event should have the game playable to the public, so we should be able to here the combat theme
being talked over again
there.

I think what you're looking for is "How do you do, fellow kids?"

edit: Better late than never, Jello :p

Revisiting Persona 2 IS though the PSP version is really reigniting my love for this game.
I already said this a few weeks ago but my opinion is reinforced the more I play it.
Gotta put aside funds to import EP from Japan so I can start on that as soon as the translation is done.
Such a shame the game never made it over, God bless the people in charge of this translation.
This will force me to keep my PSP around forever lol.

About that, anyone knows what's the progress on the translation? I'm not exactly sure if there's some place to follow it.

I was actually wondering the same thing, there was a thread here a while back but it's dead now, I googled a bit but didn't find a blog or anything for updates but I know at least one of the people inolved posts here.
Please give us an update :)
