2022 has come to a close, and looking back there had been a lot of activity in the gaming industry to remember. However, one of the most standout things that occurred during this time was the many awards Xbox received, and primarily awards Phil Spencer received directly, during the year 2022. In 2022 alone Phil Spencer won 5 major awards during the year, a list of those 5 are below.

While I'm still looking, it is also likely that this is a record, as no other major studio staff, lead, manager, director, or founder has won even 3 major industry awards in one year, Phil Spencer has won 5.

How many awards will Phil Spencer win this year in 2023? We have a whole year ahead of us to find out!

More awards than exclusive 1sr party games released in a calendar year. Tells you everything you need to know.

People celebrating this PR merchant have their priorities all wrong.
Went from down by over a 1:2 ratio to closing the gap and having the best selling console of their brand till date...bought Xbox back from the verge of being closed or sold off. Pretty award worthy.

Microsoft gaming you mean, Xbox is dead.

Chicago Bulls What GIF by NBA

That's so weird... For what? What did he deliver this year? It's like Microsoft invested in creating a marketing strategy for him instead of for the console, service and games they're supposedly trying to sell.

Also... How is being promoted at work an industry award?

The three industry awards are more than likely due to the pending Activision Blizzard acquisition. One of the rewards were from his alma mater, University of Washington. The last isn't an "industry award" at all. It was his promotion to CEO of Microsoft Gaming.

Still losing 2:1 by sony. Not even going to mention Nintendo murdering lol
I don’t think those numbers are true. They are neck and neck in key markets and also took the lead on a key market which is game subs. These are all things that would be commended if done by fans of said company.

He didn't bring back the Xbox from being closed, he negotiated with someone to WAIT for the PROMISE that he eventually will which stopped it from being closed, this is what people forget about from Phils story from Xbox 2014. He had to convince Nadella to support the brand for a possible ROI he did not actually DO anything yet.

That's why the Minecraft acquisition was not under Xbox, and why after Phils 2nd promotion and the growth of gaming he got Nadella to open up the war chest, then in january 2022, with the new consoles showing promise, Nadella gave him a rewarded new position and gave him even more access tot he war chest with his backing. Which is why Nadella freaked out about sales, and later for those sniping Xbox for the Act deal.

From MS themselves: Still losing 2:1.

Why are you posting charts with no context? We have no idea what these numbers are made from. PS5, XS and Switch only can't possibly have Nintendo at less than Sony for 2021, PS4 has to be included, and maybe some other liberties.

I mean thats kind of what happens when you practically are giving away games for free with gamepass and then making a underpowered cheap console that has to be around 50% of your userbase now I would imagine for the "next gen" consoles. The only thing Phil has been a master of is throwing around MS money acquired from other Divisions into XBOX. Didnt Phil say they were losing $100-$200 on every console sold

Why should xbox gamers care if they are getting games for pretty much free? This is a win for them. Throwing around MS money? Huh. You must not have heard. Game pass is profitable.

Xbox First Party in 2022 when you include Activision Blizzard.

Forza Horizon 5: Hot Wheels
Grounded
Pentiment
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Warzone 2
Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle
Overwatch 2
Diablo Immortal
As Dusk Falls
Age of Empires IV Anniv Edition
Deathloop
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Fallout 76 (5 seasons of content and updates)
Sea of Thieves (3 seasons of content and updates)
Halo Infinite (Season 2 and Winter Update including Match XP Beta, 4 player campaign co-op, forge etc)

So not even including everything that came to Game Pass this year, which is a shit ton, you pretty much see what Phil and his team are putting together. If people are somehow of the belief he doesn't deserve it with the massive turnaround for Xbox, or not even what was done with first party in 2021, or what he has done with Game Pass overall, then 2023 with Starfield and the other major first party releases along with eventually closing the Activision deal should cement exactly why he deserves every award he has received.

The most influential and transformative video game executive of the last 10 years. Its not even a debate at this point.
Dude this this is for 2022 not a decade. What did Phil Spenser do for the industry in 2022?
What policy, decision, or direction did the industry move towards caused by Phil Spenser in 2022 that wasn't being done in the past 9 years?

Lordy..

This is a desperate reach or what.

This is why Xbox/MS probably ain’t to fussed as their ‘fans’ can say no wrong about the the lack of games.

Still blew my mind they came to the game awards with absolutely nothing. But hey, their fans are content 😅

Microsoft should go third party; they might sell more games on PlayStation.

Microsoft is happy to sell games on Playstation. Haven't you caught on to the strategy yet? They do a little bit of everything. Support every platform and way to play under the sun. They just do so with a combo of exclusives and non-exclusive games.

You said that like it was supposed to be a bad thing. Microsoft planning ahead for this stuff is why Sony is playing catch up in multiple areas even as the market leader. They're behind on pc game development, they're behind on multi-game subscription services, they're behind on cloud gaming, and they're also behind on live service and multi-player gaming.

Phil is a joke. Doesnt matter what awards He get. Maybe its time to Tell that He Listens to the community but games need time. Maybe next gen ...
World Premiere, the biggest e3 Show yet! 120 multiplat titles. You all wanted games? How about games we dont have anything to Do with?

Everything I listed is what xbox first party studios have done in the year 2022, and what soon to be xbox first party studios have done in the year 2022. Where is the lie about what I said? And Game Pass absolutely killed in 2022. High on Life, A Plague Tale: Requiem and so much more. Xbox even without a brand new first party AAA in 2022 had an amazing year. That's a fact. 2023 will deliver more of the exclusive AAA titles people wanted while continuing to deliver an incredible set of first party and 3rd party Game Pass day ones.

'Content' you say? Xbox gamers are being fed more incredible games than we know what to do with in a specific timeframe. 2022 was a strong year for Xbox. 2023? I expect a lot of sealed lips this year.

Microsoft's strategy is clearly not selling games on PlayStation. If there the case then Microsoft's games on Steam would be on PlayStation as well as upcoming games that would have been on PlayStation had MS not purchased Bethesda like Starfield and Elder Scrolls. Games published by Microsoft that are on PlayStation are due to the timing of the acquisitions where contracts had already been signed or the game pre-existed like Minecraft. Phil Spencer said that explicitly after Microsoft bought Bethesda.

This man rather spend Xbox budget on creating award events where he's always the winner instead of putting the time and effort into running his team/studios to create exclusive games.

Creating award events? You do know all these awards events existed prior to this year......right?
