Pikmin 3 |OT| Starvation, Slavery, and Savage Creatures in a Cute, Colorful Package

Game seems beautiful to me with that classic Nintendo charm polished over. I think I'm enjoying this as much as I enjoyed the original back on GC. (Never played the New Control remakes for Wii).

I'm having a hard time progressing in this game-my daughter cries anytime any Pikmin get left behind on a level! It breaks her heart to see them run up.

I don't think she realizes they can die in battle,But seeing them stranded makes her so sad I have to replay. No Pikmin gets left behind....

That being said I always have a tough time getting everyone to safety at the end. any tips?

Also why is there no official Pikmin merchandise in the US? Does the Nintendo Store in NY have any? My wife is flying out there next week and if so I'll have her go pick some up.

Do you mean back to the ship before time runs out or just keeping them all alive during a playthrough???:

If it's the former, you might already know this but you just have to have them with a leader anywhere in a level and even if time runs out, they all survive.

Because NoA is stupid.

If you've got some spare Club N coins, you could get this, though:

Is anyone else desperately lamenting the loss of the C-Stick function from the GameCube games? Where the C-stick would guide the entire herd of pikmin you're carrying within a small radius of your captain...? If there is a way to pull this off with either the wiimote/nunchuk or the gamepad, I've not been able to pinpoint it.

I feel like this was crucial for me and has totally ruined parts of my performance.

From what I've been reading in the "underwebs", there might be a GC/CCPro mod for this coming. Let's just say interest in the Wii U hacking scene has heated back up and expect those threads might pop up soon enough. ;)

But no I'm only about an hour in and I can't find a way to guide the Pikmin herd, dumb thing to remove if it was.

c-stick moving the swarm around was a hack to compensate for their crude pathfinding; people ended up using it to pull evasion tricks in combat which is understandable.

Pikmin 3 uses the dodge whistle for keeping followers out of harms way and much tighter path finding. Also charged lock-on for swarming, so that's still there. In the end it's going to boil down to a matter of preference for a lot of folks though.

I'm starting to think this not a completion time at all.
But the in-game hour and minute when you ended the game by beating the last boss.
At the beginning of the game, the first day, you can see they says something like "Day 1, 08:45, Alph" then "Day 1, 09:20, Brittany". I think it's the same for the result screen.

It doesn't read "Completed at day 50 in 20 hours and 14 minutes", but "Completed at day 50, 20h14". That's my theory when I ended my second run yesterday, I first finished it and it said 10:16 or something, then I messed up with Miiverse and decided to beat the boss again to post the final screen on miiverse; I wasn't as efficient and ended it at 10:45. It wasn't the real time in the real world either but the ingame clock wasn't 12h00 yet.

Edit: In any case, I'm not sure this has been debated earlier in this thread, but I think this could be one of the GAF darkest day when realising we needed 67 pages to figure that out lol :D

im starting to believe this theory as i recently went back a day to just beat the final boss and i somehow managed to shave off more than an hr in time which i no isnt possible lol.

Any tips for
Twilight River boss? I am stuck there, seems like I am doing something wrong, because its health is not dropping as it should

Flying and yellow Pikmin for the win in this one. Stay away from the boss when the little scornets are buzzing around it. It will then set up an attack either sending them in groups towards you that you dodge or encircling you. If they circle you quickly throw a few onto a spot to attack that will create a hole for you to escape. Once they attack and leave this leaves an opening to attack the Boss, so bombard with yellow Pikmin and then send in your flying Pikmin. It is a very short opening. The little scornets will come back so call all your Pikmin back and run away or they can be caught I'm a death dance. Repeat till dead.

I'm terrible at this game, and I hate the timer. Any game that rushes me is hell. I can't solve puzzles fast enough, I like to sit down and think, my brain wants to relax when playing video games take my time. I don't think this game is for me, but oh well...

I feel the same way, friend. It's why I can never get into Starcraft-I can't be rushed. I need to take my time and when I'm rushed I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

No puzzle in Pikmin should fry your brain for more than 10 minutes. If you don't solve the puzzle just try again the next day. There is no penalty for finishing the game with more days on the clock than others.

Don't worry, bruhs. As long as you have a decent reserve of juice, you're good. Exploring the next day with a better plan is half the fun of this game, especially since fruit placement and boss damage are persistent. Just make sure your captains have all the Pikmin in their squad(s) before the end of the day, and tackle whatever you didn't get done the next day.

It's part of being an explorer. Sometimes you fail and things don't go your way. Sleep it off and get back in the game. (Unless it's a catastrophic loss of life in which you best re-do that day, nah'msayin?)

You don't have to get everybody back onboard the onion or even in the perimeter to have them be "safe." As long as they are in a squad, grouped with one of the captains, they are safe; even if the timer goes to zero, they will automatically board the ship.

Also, close to the end of the day, a graphic with a number will tell you how many Pikmin still aren't in safe zones (either inside an onion, in the perimeter, or with a captain). Use this to keep track of how many you've lost, and then consult the gamepad map to find the straggers (they'll be colored dots on the map).

Yeah, I completed the game once, continued from a previous day, got all fruit, completed again, and got a lower time in the clock. So it has to be tied to the day you complete the game. However, during the game, there is also a timer which I think was cumulative. So it's really weird that all of a sudden they swap the meaning of the clock.

Platinumed all the treasure gathering missions. Now I'll probably take a break with the game and come back for the other missions later. I want to get back to Earthbound.

Could anyone tell me what i'm supposed to do with this.... thing..?

QK5KKOi.jpg

first hurl some pikmins on the platform and go up there with two of your crew members.

there is a bouncy thing near that thing that you cant reach on foot. go there with your third member and hurl yellow pikmins on it. the two crew members will be elevated and will have access to the area.

Still haven't found the last captain and I'm now on day 15. =( sad panda.

Open the spoiler if you want to know exactly what to do:

He's in the distant tundra, what you need to do is head northwest, and go up the geysers until you reach the top, you should see a snowman figure with a "mustache", directly to his left, you'll see a ledge where you need to throw one captain and about 20 pikmin. Use the pikmin to push the boulder all the way down to open a cave. From there, just keep exploring and you're sure to find him/

I'm making it sound more complex than it is. But this should help you.

Holy shit, getting Platinums on the missions solo is freaking hard! I thought they were nearly impossible in co-op but sheesh. It really puts your multitasking skills to the test.

Got all the Treasure Platinums on co-op, and the first two levels Platinum on solo mode now. Welp, onto the next one!

So I finally got some time on my hands coming the 23.08. and decided I want to check out Pikmin 3 - Considering I also want to buy TW101, I'm want to use the 30% from the eShop. I remember some controversy about the fact, that you couldn't use the discount when you bought a game code from game.co.uk - Is that true, do I have to buy directly from the eShop to get the discount
?
70 EUR for two new Wii U games would be ok with me, but I would not buy both at full price.

nope, the rep who said that was misinformed, it turned out

Nintendo has great customer service policies, but unfortunately their reps can be kind of clueless

Whenever you browse your map the game pauses. This gives you time to think and plan your next actions. Eventually, you will have a huge supply of fruit. The game is designed to go up to 100 days.

Personally, I think folks worried about the timer should just think of it as having to turn in for the night. Boss health persists between days, and stuff stays where you have to drop it for a reason: you don't have to accomplish every single thing you want to do in a day.

Maintaining a fruit supply puts a gentle pressure on planning for the future, but it is really very gentle once you realize you're not going to run out of juice in just 2 or 3 in-game days.

This game's design is so incredibly dense. It feels like classic Nintendo where every single element is placed just so. However, this has the added element of exploration where you want to know what is down that path or under that shrouded area on your map. Unless there is a triforce hunt style drop off at the end of this it's surely one of EAD's greatest titles to date.

Got all fruits but is there any convenient way to check where you miss Data Logs and
suits. At least I think the game has multiple suits since that was referred to earlier. I have only found the dodge whistle and one suit upgrade. Am I missing something there?

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Pretty sure I've got one level left. Sitting on about 45 fruit. Sublime game.

There's a thread on gamefaqs that lists all exploration notes, but I would recommend not reading it until you've encountered the final area and boss.

As for the suits, there are 3 in total, I just found the final one just now actually(got all fruit about to finish the game), it's in Twilight River near the burrowing snachet *wink*.

There is a cardboard box at the beginning of Tropical Wilds that has "20" written on it. What am I supposed to do with it? I keep throwing 20 Pikmins on it but nothing happens.

You need to get to the tall, flat side of the box and throw 20 Pikmin at that side, who will then push the box into place. They are usually shortcuts to newer parts of levels that you probably just came from (if you get to the flat side).

Edit: Though I don't remember specifically if this is what you are referring to. You probably knew about pushing boxes so it could be something else.

I don't think he's talking about the ramps.
