By the looks of the screens they posted yesterday, the game is still in 3D - only the camera is at an isometric angle (that may or may not be adjustable).

it's mix of 3D and 2D. 2D backdrops and 3d characters and elements.

You know it really does feel like the golden days of PC gaming are coming back in full swing thanks to the power and beauty of the internet and growing passionate gaming communities. Having developer freedom for things like this with great success is just a tip of the iceberg of what "niche" genres can return in full swing that would of been laughed/mocked at if they were ever pitched to publishers. Well these are all lower tier. Higher tier are the likes of Dębowa or Chopin. Of the cheap ones Zoladkowa Gorzka is good, so is Zawisza or some other brands.
