I have the nasty feeling that I'm going to have to explore every corner of every map with stealth on so I can discover all the item caches. :( Is it worth it to do that? It'll make things pretty slow unless I'm double-timing stealth movement.

I'm even finding item cache(s) in town area(s) for example.

This one will eat away at me as well. You could always clear an area first then fast forward through it in stealth.

I forgot what area this was, but I recall finding a piece of paper that basically said "Watch out for these rare boots in this area!" Wish the hidden items were handled a bit like that. Clues somewhere in some form.

I don't think you're supposed to understand that.

You haven't noticed that Aloth seems to have 2 personalities or something thus far? That's his weird...Scottish villager type personality that takes over rarely. I just got to Defiance Bay and it's still unexplained, probably something to do with bits of souls...

Oh I definitely did notice that, I just couldn't make out the meaning of that particular phrase.
I was actually hoping the other personality would take over more often than it does, he seems to have it mostly under control

Good god this game is so good. I haven't been interested in gaming for months but PoE has rekindled my fire.

Only had one nasty bug so far: exiting Raedric's Keep would always crash the game. Fortunately that was fixable by deleting a few files inside the save file you were loading. I hope I don't run into too many bugs.

About the endless path, is it difficult ? is it something i can finish soon or should I wait a bit more to do it ?

First floor is fairly simple, second floor gets pretty tough but not too crazy. Just don't (1st floor spoiler)
jump into the blood pit because you'll end up on the hellish 5th floor that's very hard to escape from
.

Oh. :( Time to sneak around everywhere, then.

Doing the temple right now and I'm getting pretty damn into it. Some minor gripes about stat balancing (CON is basically a dump stat for non-tanks with very little in the way of penalty if you take it down below 10) and I wish Chanters didn't have such a long ramp up time, but otherwise, good stuff. Hard/expert also feels like a good difficulty right now, just enough to keep me on my toes.

Main trouble right now is when Eder can't grab attention and a few mobs get to my dps; don't really have a reliable way for them to push them off, unless the chanter has his phrases 3-stacked already. In an emergency I just get Durance to cast Withdraw and that's been enough to take me through some tough spots.

Defender/Hold the Line on?

Or is it just a case of Shadows, because those SOBs will just teleport and kill your backliners no matter what, and it's kinda stupid.

Otherwise shoot them to pull and force them to fight you in a doorway.

The floors get more difficult as you go down, so you can go down till it gets too tough for you. I've been doing a couple of floors then leaving and doing quests elsewhere before coming back and doing another couple of floors.

Backup your /config/ folder, delete everything Gedosato related, and do a fresh Gedosato install.

Lanczos scaling works after I did that, which is a great because bilinear scaling made the interface a blurry mess.

Thanks, that fixed it :)

Odd that you'd see a terrible amount of blur with any of the other methods though.

Can't believe the game baits you in situations to choose dialogue options that rely on stats and they turn out to be the worse choice 5/10 times in comparison to normal ones. Well played, Obisidian.

And here I was thinking I was going to have troubles with
Raedric's Keep
at only level 4 on hard.

Didn't have a single issue, didn't have a single death / knock out.

So much fun. Now where the hell is that damn vault.

People should read the dialogue line past the words in the square brackets.

I've heard of hilarious moments where people picking [Passionate] and it means you start fighting (despite not being [Aggressive]). It's hilarious. Love that higher stats give you some more dialogue variety but aren't win buttons you can game.

Is the loot random? I saw a guy looting a corpse at the temple of Aothas and he got a cape and I think I got a ring.

Oh... I just guessed, with help from the small clue about
the 2nd one from the scrap of paper
. Daaaaamn.

I deduced from
the lost spirit flashback after the room with Skuld king.

This isn't super spoilery, but for two examples of the sort of hidden spots I found in town(s):

I found an outdoor item location which might have had some jewels, and a hiding spot inside a house with items. I don't remember for sure, but that might have been the one that gave me an item that I need for some other secret area I'm heading to shortly.

Long story short, I see a lot of double-speed sneaking in my future, which I'm not super happy about since it just adds busy work to the playtime. I don't know if any items/classes/spells allow you to search at normal speed.

What's with this double-click bug?
Is it that game-breaking so people have to restart all over again?
I think double-clicking items in your inventory screen makes you lose passives, such as racial bonuses. Some people nay have suggested that they may still take effect, and just be hidden on the character screen. I don't know for certain and I haven't double-clicked items as far as I know.

Yeah one of Sawyer's goals was to make it so that the high-stat dialogue choice is not necessarily the best one, or even a good one.

I personally have all of that stuff completely hidden w/ expert mode, so the only way I can tell how the person will react to what I've said is to actually say it and see what happens. I highly recommend people disable the dialogue qualifiers and such in the options. Much more of an organic experience.

Stuck, perhaps locked out of a non-confrontational method: Catacombs in Defiance Bay

So, I'm assuming I can't sneak into the meeting of the Woedica Wierdos because I'm a death godlike which means even though I can answer their questions, they attack on sight since I can't wear the mask.

Those guys are tough :(

Guhhh that's fantastic, I'm really trying to fight the temptation of buying this because budget and time, but dang this is pushing me over the edge.

Yeah, the shadows. Had a nasty battle with three of them, had to burn one of my camps to recover. I'll have to pick up Grimoire Smash for Aloth if I can.

I put 17 int on my Rogue PC
I am not screwed, isn't it?

You're totally screwed.

Should've been 18 to hit like, every INT conversation option.

Really not feeling the rogue I have as my pc. I expect rogues to be sneaky backstab high damage dual dagger types. Instead I'm finding she has to be crossbow from the back most the time (else she gets slaughtered or spotted) in which case why am I bothering, I could have literally any character do that. It's like a mage with one spell - "shoot crossbow".

Seeing a few similar comments from others on their chosen class - I wonder if the one criticism of this otherwise wonderful game is that certain classes just don't feel special / unique enough?

Or am I just rogueing wrong?

Role playing
You see, I imagine my character is better at her wit side, so I put that much INT on her >__>

I would probably not play on hard at least. INT is probably the least useful skill for a rogue. Might help for some of the Watcher abilities since they are AoEs but won't really help with class abilities that much.

Why wouldn't you?

If you want a non-jerkface answer, it increases duration of effects so you can get in more sneak attacks.

Unless you're playing a really strange party setup you generally don't have to worry much about this at all. Lot of Sneak attack debuffs and most party members will be better at applying it anyway.

Yeah that caught me off guard the first few times, but I quite like it. It's been a while since a game forced you to think about what option would be best to achieve your goal and not just press the win button.

This game is everything I was hoping it would be and that is saying something because I had high hopes for this game.

Honestly i'm not impressed with that ability and wouldn't picked it up for the second time. It's fairly useless and unreliable, especially on shadows - mostly they resist the knockback or just teleport to his location again unfazed.

Aloth for me was pretty much down most of the fights with those damn shadows, mostly i just could fire the starting barrage of spells until they teleport to him and destory him...

17 int is just the allocation point, with my culture background it become 18 thankfully.

Thankfully, I'm playing on Normal for a role-playing experience in its truest sense. Stats min-maxing and challenge is what something I tackle later on as I understood the rule of the game much better.

Rogues CAN be sneaky backstabbers. You just need to micromanage a lot and pick your targets carefully. Evibutt the Rogue switches between two stilettos or a pistol depending on the situation. I always start battle with a sneak attack pistol shot and run back towards my party with the mobs in tow. Then when Edar and my monk pc are engaging enemies, I sneak Evibutt around the back to backstab.

If it's shadows then you should be okay. I haven't gotten further than that but from what I hear they are the only annoying enemies, shades maybe (they spawn shadows?). Grimoire Slam seems cool but there are better things to get IMO, since it'll probably end up getting no use after that part. Just take your lumps. It's pretty dumb though, seeing as that is one of the first few dungeons in the game, they just give no fucks about positioning.

I would recommend just having your tanks pull then keeping Aloth out of combat until they are properly engaged, or even just let him faint, really.

The degree of difference in difficulty between fighting Raedric and his 39 goons straight on and pulling them all through the doorway to his wife's room is hilarious.

I have yet another question! Please let me know if I'm asking too much. :( I don't see any ingame way of figuring out spells per rest and wizard upgrade bonuses, besides resting and then checking the icon numbers in the bottom left.

I figured I could check a wiki, but even the official wiki (http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Wizard) does not have wizard bonuses past level 9. Is there any official or semi-official reference that mentions what happens at level 9? For example, if there is any way to start casting some cheap spells on a per-encounter basis, that would be amazingly useful compared to the per-rest basis, especially on harder difficulties.

My Wizard and Priest are both able to cast 1st level spells per-encounter at level nine. Haven't tested, but I assume Druids are the same.

I don't mean to be rude, but would you mind spoilering things like this? I'm still at the level where I'm asking basic questions about combat and early areas, and seeing people posting unspoilered specific tactics for battle(s) / encounter(s) later in the game kind of sucks. :(

Whenever there's a Might conversation option I pick it, wish there were more of those.

Are there any benefits to imprisoning someone in your Stronghold?

I arrived at Twin Elms just now. Some of the story stuff seems really confusing, like all those visions from the past of
Thaos talking to me as if I was an apprentice or something

The gaf inn was underwhelming.

Really glad I rolled a wizard, all the higher level spells don't seem all that appealing tho. Slicken is still king, if I were to play again I'd probably go with cipher, those seem fun too.

Almost never get around to actually summoning things with my Chanter.

I feel bad for reloading so much, but sometimes the outcomes can feel so random. Learning the ropes still, I'll blame that! *reloads*

Currently in the very early dungeon
temple below Gilded Vale, first floor
... those brown skuldr are pretty tough (on Normal), I hear it gets worse further below. Making the most out of arched doorways, but it's difficult to see exactly what's space and what's blocking, and something can slip by.

You can switch targets while engaged, as long as you don't run, right? At least that's what those skuldr are doing every time I accidentally move my caster too close.

Right now I'm letting my tanky man pull with a bow, but maybe that's a bit of a waste of my rogue's sneak attack?

They don't. I tested this by making a Coastal Aumaua and having that first companion, the fighter lady, knock me down. My prone defense was 20 lower after I initiated the bug than before.

Reading Bishop's back story at the GAF Inn makes me smile everytime. It would have been so easy for Obsidian to just make some soulless inns and say THERE YA GO but they gave the place character, and I really appreciate that.

I'm sure this has been asked already, but the named people with golden name frames that only let you see a piece of their past/whatever don't really have anything to do with, well, anything? I've read most that I've come by but there's just too damn many lol, I don't have the time to read every single one and I hope I won't miss out on side quests or anything like that.

Hmm, alright. Gotta admit that going into a game like this mostly unknowing is a weird feeling. Also somewhat pleasant.

Got through the later battles by just bunching everyone up with no regard for positioning (other than Eder blocking the doorway). At least this way I could get him to knock down any that teleported back to my Chanter without disengaging from his current target.

Kana is an island aunauma and totally lost their extra weapon set from the racial passive. You might be able to fix it by dismissing them and bringing them back on, but if you screwed up on your PC, well ... :(

Browsed through the official forums just now. There's a temp workaround for companions regarding the double click bug. Dismiss them from party then recruit them again and the active abilities will go back. No workaround for your main character though.

Edit: beaten

It's a huge transition for me too, because I'm used to aRPG combat (frantic button clicking and cooldown management), and I haven't played a proper D&D (or D&D-like) combat game in a long while. So it is still a huge shock at times where I just have to sit there and watch autoattacks.
