Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

There is a solution already. Display Port.
HDMI is used because of hollywood. And probably broadcast TV. (Like HDTV resolutions that default to YCbCr and the reason why TVs still ship with fucking overscan)

Sure, but damn, get with the times HDMI! A mainstream technology hasn't been this bottlenecked by HDMI before, afaik.

They're still amazing dude c/e/g6 are the best tv even for gaming in hdr. Quality wise. I have no issue with the input lag around 50-60

I think that is acceptable for a controller if you aren't used to low lag, but a mouse at anything over 20ms is extremely noticeable to me.

I don't think so, just speculation from buyers because Samsung added the option to a few models.

Weird thing is some 2015 models have the option of HDR + Game mode.

If its just speculation, I have no idea why people are so mad. If LG did say they were adding it and didnt, then yes, that's fucked up.

I wonder what Vincent Teoh was talking about then. Best public firmware he has tested on the LG OLED models... and it was regarding HDR. :|

Damn, that's pretty poor form not to support your current flagship TVs (that they're still trying to sell) in that way, and go on to mention next years models in the same sentence. Those aren't cheap TVs, and I'd be disappointed if I went that route, but from the sounds of it here most people with those TVs don't have an issue with the input lag as it stands.

Huh, it looks like the Vizio P55-C1 is a better offering than the Samsung KS8000. Lower input lag, refresh rate of 240Hz, better viewing angles, etc. But does it look as nice and sharp as the KS8000 from Samsung? Or are the colors dull? :|

Is there any downside to this TV? Is it also 4:4:4 capable? I don't quite understand the new TV jargon.

Edit: Disregard this. The Vizio does NOT support 4:4:4.
Can we please make sure facts are straight before posting?

EDIT - This reads a bit too harsh, which is unintentional. I mean to say, we all use this thread to information gather and make recommendations. I feel it's important we all keep our facts sound, on account of.

Matt McRae said:
The first is a patch for 4:4:4. I know this has been discussed a lot. The TV supports 4:4:4 now but certain signals show decimation. In these cases the TV is accepting and decoding the 4:4:4 signal correctly but it is passing through a portion of the video pipeline which is reducing the chroma. A fix is in the works so that when a 4:4:4 signal is detected this portion of the pipeline is bypassed and the true 4:4:4 will make it to screen. This is a longer fix because it required a rework of the video pipeline.

I feel for all of you LG owners. I got a similar kick in the pants when the P-Series was found that HDMI Input 5 would not accept HDR signals. If it weren't for Matt McRae's direct communication with the company, I would've Vizio off as a company I'd ever do business with again. However, Vizio's continual improvements to the P-Series, as well as Matt's transparency, have impressed me so much. It sucks there's no champion at LG doing similar for you owners.

I never owned a TV before and Frys has a 40 inch samsung on sale for $227 with promo code.

http://www.frys.com/product/8440088

Samsung is good? and is this a good price? or will be cheaper black friday?

(of course I can buy it now and probably return w/in 30 days in case a better TV is cheaper)

but yah, never owned a HD TV before, so I'm not sure if it's good for gaming.

I dont care about that 4K stuff... I just want to watch netflix and read game text and play without much lag with street fighter and guilty gear

Can you swing an extra $80? You're going to get a lot more bang for your buck with this guys instead. It's a smart TV, which the one you linked isn't. I'd imagine the panel is significantly better on this guys as well.

Sign up for their newsletter for an additional $25 off, and it's free shipping. Tax Free for everywhere but NY/NJ (So that might make it more like $60 difference after tax instead). The quality of the TV will be far superior to that.

It's their second pick for the size range (Best site for TV's out there I knew of outside AVS forums)

6290 is the same as the 6300 just without a smart remote or bluetooth.

I have this TV and I thought that HDR was too bright and oversaturated for my taste with the OLED LIGHT set to 100 so I set it at 30 for viewing with the lights off (I usually watch TV at night) I noticed in his article he mentioned that they had to turn down the OLED LIGHT setting to "63" to get it to display properly before the firmware. This comment insinuated that HDR is meant to be watched with OLED LIGHT set to max, or at least very high (i would assume the same for LCD tv's, backlight to max). Is that the case? I always took it that HDR was more about an expanded color gamut and more contrast but I wasn't sure how integral the light output was to this.

I think I'm just going to get the KS8000 for gaming and hold off on the OLEDs for when I get my own house and splurge on an entertainment center. Hopefully by then they sort out the HDR gaming issue. 67ms is huge.

The brightness (light output) goes hand in hand with the expanded color gamut to create the current standard spec for HDR video.

I hope monitors apply here since it's the same concepts and all, but I need help calibrating my two monitors. My old one is a Hanns G HL227D, a TN panel, and the new one is a BenQ GW2265, a VA panel. I've tweaked mostly the brightness and contrast to get them to look similar but they still look very different. I set the color setting for the BenQ to sRGB mode and the Hanns G is in Natural mode. I want to know how much is due to my settings versus the different panel types and color modes.

I have two images that illustrate the differences well. First, the tabby cat test. On the BenQ the orange is a lot more colorful, making the Hanns G look sepia-ish in comparison, and the whites are a bit more warm - I can't tell how much this is due to brightness or RGB. I'm sure the cat on the BenQ looks better to most people.

A random dark screenshot from Bioshock Infinite. Very different impressions from the first image! Contrast or gamma seems to have a big effect - the BenQ is much darker and less clear on the right side of the image than the Hanns G. I prefer clarity in games so I would prefer the Hanns G for gaming. I think the colors pop more on the Hanns G as well, but that's not always the case, just in low light maybe?

I intended to use the BenQ as a secondary monitor for photo editing, but if it is viable for gaming tell me how (besides gaming mode which is fugly by default). If anybody here has or has used BenQ and Hanns G monitors it would help a ton.

Current settings for each monitor
BenQ: Brightness 30, Contrast 50, Sharpness 5, sRGB mode
Hanns G: Brightness 70, Contrast 35, Sharpness 0, natural mode

Exactly how I feel. OLED looks fantastic, but the pricing and input lag is completely setting me off for now.

I really haven't seen anyone who's had an OLED complain about about input lag.
Including some of the more technical guys in this thread.

The numbers from various tests are inconsistent in different reviews so I don't know if those "high" numbers are truly representative.

There have been complaints over at avforums.
Well, I'll do some testing myself coming next week with the PS4 Pro and my E6 OLED TV. My old TV is a Sony LED TV with around 20 ms, so I expect to notice the difference.

Backing up the AVSForums thread mentioned before:

HDTVTest's Vincent Teoh has separately claimed on Twitter that LG has no HDR + Game Mode firmware update in the pipeline.

That means you'll have to settle for the current input lag numbers; they will not get better in the foreseeable future.

Consider your purchases accordingly.

He also explains why the hardware update would be necessary; apparently, it has to do with the way HDR and Game Mode are implemented on the current models.

My stance has been to wait until CES 2018 before making a decision and dumb LG BS like this seems to validate that.

It's the same thing as female Link. Someone on the internet said it was going to happen and when it didn't people unloaded their rage towards the companies that didn't keep the promise they never made.

I pulled the trigger on a 55E6 to replace my Pioneer 5010 plasma that works when it feels like it (usually only if I bought a replacement). Prefer better sound and 3D if possible, but was having trouble justifying the $800 premium over the now common $1999 B6 deal.

I was tempted by the 65B6 deal to replace my main home theater display, but I think I'll hold off. That deal is incredibly tempting though.. wow. I will either hold off for another OLED in the next couple years, or maybe a high-end Sony LCD. Amazing to see these deals though.

Saw this on slickdeals, an authorized dealer (not sure who the seller is yet) will have the 55" C6/B6 OLED for $1500. E6 will be $1800

https://slickdeals.net/f/9265971-st...utm_campaign=tu-9999&src=da_si_v2_ni_14128970

Goes live at 2pm PDT. Really good deal!

Any chance Best Buy would price match? Would rather get it through them than having it shipped over.

Also can anyone tell me how the E6 compares to my current TV? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BCGRLUI/?tag=neogaf0e-20

while I'm disappointed that LG's 2016 OLEDs won't get HDR in game mode, games feel fine to me in HDR mode from what little I've played.

I don't think I am very sensitive to input latency, though.. I used to play my console games on a 5020FD Kuro in movie mode.. so I feel like I'd be hard pressed to notice the difference on the OLED.

I'm sure someone at a Best Buy somewhere would price match these crazy deals. I'm not going to try because I don't want to argue with them, especially since it's on Ebay. In my experience they don't treat that the same was if it was on the vendors website instead.
