Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

I couldn't resist this bad boy for "only" 1389 euro. The Panasonic TX-P50VT60. This TV should rival the legendary Pioneer Kuro Plasma's from years ago... Finally.
I've always had LCD TV's but I have enough of the poor blacks (in a room with the lights off) and poor viewing angles. I just don't want that anymore!

I want the best black levels in my movies and games but big OLED TV's are way too expensive for me. I'm not spending 4000/5000 euro on a TV, lol, hell no.
The VT60 will be delivered tomorow, I'm really excited! I hope there is nothing wrong with this TV.

Shame Panasonic will never make a Plasma again...

I'm loving my Samsung LED TV, 2013 6003 series. I notice when I play my blu rays, it looks like you're their with a camera recording the scenes. Also awesome for gaming!

That'd be the motion smoother, you'll maybe want to turn that off. Unless you mean you like that they look that way. In which case godspeed!

thanx. I'm still trying to figure out the settings. It looks nice like that, but I think I will turn off the motion smoother.

Second pick the banding bars go above the TV ! Really they do....and there is clouding, but again given the picture shows bands and blurs outside the TV frame god knows what the point is. Something dodgy I guess. Its not hard to take a decent photo nowadays...

I am sure there are genuine decent pics of bad sets - these are not good examples and effects outside of the TV I smell a rat.

I read Sony improved the QA late 2013.

I had same concerns and seen nothing but an excellent set, no ghosting, no bars, excellent colours, motion set to clear for football is clear as day motion on the ball and fats panning, and gaming on COD just feels fast (in good lobbies get my gryphin almost every game...Love it)

I cant tell whether I am in game mode or cinema mode, I always have to check when starting Ps4 COD, there is hardly any difference at all in PQ. There is no way picture looks like this, TV is totally knackered or someone is trolling.....

The set auto detects and switches 24p content anyway and detects games...

I snagged the first two, but there are lots of similar images on various forums: Avsforum, Avforums, AVmagazine forum (italian site).
I know the tendency to talk most about flaws in those tech forums, but the amount of posts about bad uniformity of the W905 is predominant.
I don't think that the pics are builded up.
 
Do you guys think there is any hope for projectors replacing tvs or atleast being a good alternative ? Me and my friends sometimes take a couple of projectors and game in secluded places where there are no tvs. Plus, they are small and light and their resolution can be up to 4k (extremely expensive though).

I think they already are a good offer if you have the right place but I don't see they becaming of such an ease of use to be a real alternative in the eye of the average consumer.
I hope I can be wrong..

That's the 240Hz smooth motion for ya. My TV's 120Hz has to be on for all movies. Can't stand watching them without it now.

The best thing about them is they are basically 80 inch (or bigger) HD tvs that you can fit in your backpack :)

Are there any here who use a projector as their primary gaming screen? If so, what size do you use? I'm considering setting one up in a basement so light control is not an issue. My concern is will I have issues playing FPS games (Titanfall, Halo) or any other quick response type stuff on a significantly larger screen? The project I'm considering is the Benq w1070. Thanks in advance.

As I said above we do occasionally use it and we play anything on it from fps to fighting games and we have no trouble at all. Low light environment is a must though.
 
oled if you're rich

if not the Sony w7 range is insanely good, waiting for the 50" to come out and I will be buying the hell out of it, super low latency 13.5ms and an amazing picture quality.

Retail is £799 although probably be cheaper once it's in stores will update prices.

I've been gaming on a Kuro plasma since 2008 and never once had those thoughts enter my mind.

I would only go back to LCD if I had no other choice.
 
Projectors have been my main displays for years now and never had a problem gaming on them. DLP is my favorite tech although dark scenes lack contrast especially at entry level.
 
My PS4 is flickering on my Panasonic S64 which apparently is a common problem (my TV also becomes a mess on the PS3 when some deep color setting is enabled), but the text on webpages looks blue instead of black on my PS4 too... lotta problems with this set.
 
For next-gen console games, anything 1080p native with an input lag under 40ms should be fine. I'm partial to plasmas, if you can still find some Panasonics around.

For PC gaming, I'd recommend getting a monitor. I find myself really wishing for >15ms input lag whenever I use an M+KB on a television, which you can only really get on very high-end displays nowadays. Plus, any PC gamer with the cash to drop on a decent television will probably also want 1440p or 4K support, which are more common in monitors,
 
I noticed that a new Panasonic 4k TV had a DisplayPort input. Is this becoming a common thing?

I've been waiting for the next Sony 4k TVs which are apparently coming out next month but the thing is, if they only have HDMI 2.0 there's no way to hook up a GPU for 4k/60hz and because there's no guarantee yet that the next series of GPUs will include HDMI 2.0 ports, I'm kind of worried.

Nope, only the Panasonics. Their previous 4K models had a DP port too.

I do hope the next line of GPUs have HDMI 2.0 as I just picked up a 55" Samsung HU8550, but couldn't someone make a DP -> HDMI 2.0 adapter as well? Surprised we haven't seen one yet.
 
So I am looking into getting the new 65" x9000b from Sony but I have some questions you guys might help me with.

1. Is 40ms good enough for games? I have no super high standards here but want to be able to play both FPS and racing games without serious lag.

2. Anyone tried the previous model 9000a and what was your experience of the pq when gaming upscaling etc.

What I am trying to find out is not if it is the perfect gaming monitor since it will be used for every other media as well but will it provide a good gaming experience.

Samsung will focus on high-quality LCD TVs for the time being. It will continue research on OLED technologies but will likely not release any new OLED sets for a while.

Given how I've been searching for a decent television for my place (and being a first buyer), I was lucky enough to get this lovely set for a decent price.

Samsung and LG use fundamentally different OLED technologies.

Samsung uses red, green, and blue organic LEDs in their panels. LG uses only white organic LEDs and overlays a color filter over the panel.

Samsung's approach theoretically gives better color gamut but the problems with the different color OLEDs are well known and have not been solved.

Came away with a different opinion. You might be right, that for the absolute optimal experience, there may be a small window of viewing angle.
But in the end, the depth effect of the set was enjoyable from a wide range of angles, which actually surprised me, as especially the sharpness and color saturation was way better even from way to the side than I have ever seen on a "normal" set.
 
I've been the owner of a Sony 55W905 for a couple of weeks now & it is utterly sensational; I came from a 6 year old 42" Panny plasma which is still very dear to my heart, but the 905 is majestic. At the moment I keep cycling through Blu-rays just to sit there & bask in it's glorious picture quality.

Very happy indeed :)
 
My TV suddenly won't display blacks. I was watching a TV show on netflix and suddenly the blacks turned to grey. I don't know if it's netflix or my TV but, it's literally grey now. It's the new Vizio E420i-B0 2014. I've got it calibrated and everything. I've had it for months now, and no issue.

Are you watching from a PS3 by any chance? Try switching the RGB range between full and limited to see if the black levels come back.
 
Is there a standard (or a few) 32-40" and/or ~$500 TV for the next-gen consoles? I've had a Sony KDL-32R400A for a year or so and it was fine for movies and AppleTV, but now that I've picked up a PS4, I'm noticing its flaws (namely: ghosting/motion blur). Making my way through this thread, so forgive me if this is a common question.
 
In the 32" range you would do better to buy a large screen computer monitor than a crummy TV for gaming. Make no mistake, TVs in that size category are usually bottom of the barrel junk.

My friends and I want to get a larger TV for the living area of the house we're living in next semester, and this is the current frontrunner. I wanted some opinions.
