Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

Hey guys, hoping you can help me out with a new TV I purchased.

I saw the deal a week ago on here for the Vizio M50-C1 through Dell. I quickly snapped it up and just got it yesterday. The picture and screen size are a huge upgrade over my previous screen but there appears to be something wrong with the screen itself.

http://imgur.com/pPxoHdY

It's only apparent when the screen is dark or black, but theres a white dot in the lower middle and right middle of the screen, and a large white streak on the lower right of the screen.

Has anyone seen this before? Is this something I could fix or should I return it to Dell?

Hey everyone!

I'm in the market for a new TV and was hoping you guys and gals might have some suggestions. Tentative budget is $2k, and as of right now I have my sights sets on the new Vizio P65. I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything else. Plan is to hopefully pick something up at the end of the month.

I hope to have this TV for several years. My top priorities are great black levels and low input lag, with low motion blur being nice as well. Time on this TV will be split between streaming video and BluRay viewing, and gaming, with gaming getting the larger piece of the pie.

Is there anything else I should be giving a hard look at outside of the P65 that might work for me?

Thanks so much for your time and assistance!

That's clouding, and unfortunately it's not "fixable". You can try gently rubbing a soft cloth on it, but 99.9% you'll need a replacement. Unfortunately it happens in a small percentage of LEDs.

Went to bestbuy yesterday to check out the Tvs and see OLED for myself.

By the gods it was beautiful. I couldn't believe how rich and vibrant it looked. Even though it probably had incorect calibrations, i could see how much more beautiful it would look.

UK Gaf'ers id like some advice, got £1,300 to spend,

do i get a 55 inch LG OLED 1080p or a 4K tv (feel free to recommend me)?

thanks guys.

I just spent £1250 on a brand spanking new 4K HDR Samsung UE49KS7000, it is absolutely stunning.

I've calibrated it and the picture is so pristine it is just not funny, i am completely blown away when watching native 4K content, My 1080P Bravia had exceptional image quality, but this is something else.

I know this is probably a naive question, but are there 4k TVs that give you the option on how content is upscaled? By that, I mean, is there always post-processing and interpolation (and blurring) done, or can you choose to have the upscaling be nearest neighbor -- at least with some brands/models?

I ask because I use a retro console upscaler (Framemeister), that outputs 240p to 720p really nicely, and it would be great to have that 720p then upscaled via nearest neighbor to 4k.

Panasonic's 2016 line has upscaling selection built into the software.

Additionally some flagship AV Receivers have built in upscaing with scaler options in them, allowing you to bypass the TV and use the receiver to send a processed 4k image strait to it.

Back when 1080p tv's were first coming out I used an external image processor to handle all my 480p to 1080p conversions, worked very well to help soften the transition between SD and HD,

With 4k I've found my 74x940c to be absolutely brilliant at upscaling from 1080p to 4k, so much so I abandoned any desire to look for external image processor.

If the TV is new and you already have clouding return it. It's only going to get worse. But generally speaking you can massage it out, although it's probably not going to be a permanent solution.

So, exact same tv and I've noticed this issue as well. Game mode is totally fucked with constant stutter or tearing or something. PC mode is fine. But, turn on game mode and it turns into a shit show. On 3D games it appears as a stutter. But, it's easier to see playing 2D games. It looks like a weird screen tearing thing.

Wonder how wide spread this issue is.

I fixed my issue. My Avr receiver was doing some upconversion to 4K. I turned that off and let tv do it and with game mode on its fine now.

Hey. I'm looking to get a budget tv with low input lag and decent picture quality. Is Sony kdl-48w705c a good candidate? Thanks in advance.

Hey guys I was just wondering if I should buy this TV or not?
http://www.ebuyer.com/719882-seiki-se42ua01uk-42-ultra-hd-4k-led-tv-se42ua01uk

It's from a brand I've never heard before and with that kind of price I'm worried about the quality I would be getting, so does anyone have any experience with this brand or even this TV itself? I'd be using it for gaming mostly and hooking my PS4 and PC up to it.
Thanks.
If you go that route, just know that it's quite a step down in quality, compared to brands like Sony, Samsung, LG, etc. If you don't care about picture quality, being able to adjust picture settings, motion, features and input lag - sure, go ahead, but I'd never buy one myself, to be honest.

What would you guys recommend for a 65" TV for gaming, netflix, blu-ray, etc...? For gaming, I have a PS4 and I also have a pretty beefy PC that I keep connected to my TV. My Panasonic VT30 from 2011 just crapped out on me.

I'm thinking I'll probably stay in the $2000 range (give or take a few hundred) so OLED is probably out for me.

I've been noticing a lot of hype for the new Vizio P Series but I still have trouble feeling completely comfortable with a Vizio just based on perceptions of low quality over the years. Despite that, I'm leaning towards the Vizio P65-C1 right now.

Thanks for any help!

Edit: Also, not interested in a curved television.

I don't know anything about the Vizio, as we don't have them here in Norway, but you should consider the Samsung 65" JU7500.

55 inch for 1080p seems a bit too much without the adequate distance.

Also, IMO, 4K resolution >>> OLED image quality, and more for that TV size, the jump in number of pixels is a lot more noticeable and satisfying than a bit better colors.

But yeah, you would need 4K content : /

I disagree with that, I had a Samsung HU8550 but eventually returned it and bought the 1080p OLED instead. I was feeding it native 4K content (PC games) too.

It's not that I didn't see the benefits of a higher resolution, but the PQ of the OLED is in a completely different league. Games are much more immersive on it despite the lower res. Eventually I'll upgrade to a bigger 4K OLED when prices come down, but this TV is an amazing stopgap.

Got my OLED E6 late Thursday. It really is a thing of beauty. Installed the latest FW then spent about an hour watching all the UHD demo clips I've been downloading over the past year. Everything looks stunning. Some minor banding that shows up in the 5% and under test patterns but nothing that I can see in content. A few auto comp cycles have run that improved the banding but it's still there on the test patterns. I haven't run manual super cycle yet though.

Lag figures with my Leo Bodnar tester. Consistent with what the reviews measured.

Vivid, Standard: 125-126ms
ISF modes: 50-51ms (about what the 2015 models got in game mode)
Game mode: 34ms

Watched the opening sequence of Transformers Dark of the Moon with subtitles on via my Oppo 93. Looked great. Subtitles were crisp and clear with no ghosting. Switched to the PS4 to play some Trine 2. 3D was recognized and switched on but there was no 3D. Glasses on and off, the picture was the same. Messed with the slider options but nothing changed. I'll need to check into this some more. Spent a little time playing The Unfinished Swan on PS4. This game was made for OLED.

I set up my Harmony remote today. A little trickier than I thought because I need to use the D-pad for both the activity I'm watching as well as the TV. I ended up setting the touch screen buttons for the TV commands so I can change picture modes, etc.

My main issue so far is getting ARC to disengage when I go from using the audio from the TV back to getting audio from the receivers' HDMI inputs. When I switch from DLNA streaming to HDMI 2 I can no longer get audio from the HDMI sources on the receiver. My only solution so far is to leave ARC off when I'm not using it.

So quick question, what would be the effect of smoke on my TV? Was evacuated from Fort McMurray, my house is still standing but we can't go back yet. So I don't know if there is smoke damage but if there is how could I tell, should I do anything before turning it on?

This is pretty much exactly me. I even added the TV to my cart but I'm holding off because I should probably go look at the TV in the store (assuming it's on display) before jumping on it. I've been checking weekly on reviews and recently it wasn't available for delivery at BestBuy.com but it's available again so now I'm pretty much ready.

I match the rtings.com usage of gaming and movies in a dark room but I also use my TV for my computer monitor so if there's reason to believe it wouldn't be good for that I'd love to know that before getting it into my home.

Thanks!

anyone have a breakdown of how the top three LG OLEDs, the G6, E6, C6 all compare after reviews are out?

are there advantages of getting a G6 over a E6 or C6?

Just ordered the Sony x810c. I have to ask though, is there any reason why it went up $100? It was $898 on Amazon and then last weekend it went up to $998. Hopefully it will go back down within the next 30 days. I had to get it though cause I wanted to play Uncharted 4 on it.

I used to have an x850c, but went through 2 units due to issues and told Amazon not to send me a 3rd. I really liked the picture quality on the x850c though, and I hear the x810c from a pure picture quality standpoint beats it. It just doesn't have 3D, HDR, etc, which honestly I don't care about (at least right now for HDR). I'll get a unit with HDR when it becomes more common because there will be more of a set standard.

For people who already own the x810c, how satisfied are you with this set?

The reviews really aren't out fully.

G6 is the top of the line, sing pain of glass design. Harmon Kardon sound bar. Has an extra hdmi port over the other three

E6 drops the fancier design and the high end sound bar.

C6 drops sound bar and is curved, I think it drops 3D too

B6 drops sound bar and has no 3D

Panel should be the same on all three of the flat ones. Don't believe the G6 gets any extra processing. That said, LG may be selecting the best panels off the line for G6 use. Probably a very minor difference though

Is this a regional thing? The E6 listed here has the Harman Kardon soundbar stand.

Yup, was in the same boat, had a js9000 running games native at 4k then went to the ec9300 1080p oled. Games just look so much better then on the 4k led, the contrast makes a big difference!!

Overall the 4k res couldnt compare to the infinite contrast ratio the 1080p oled has, even for pc gaming.

hmm, so i guess the C6 and B6 are out of the running for me.

the G6 is a nicer design but no need for the added sound bar for me as i already have one.

if all else is equal except for perhaps the G6 having the better panels, guess the E6 is a good choice.

I'd say so. E6 seems nearly as gorgeous as the G6, and if you aren't using the sound bar, it's a good call given the savings. The G6 is the super premium model.

Lack of 3D on the B6 is a bummer, given how incredible the 3D is on the EF series.

I've heard the 3D is good in oled, but I've never been a fan (of the effect in general) and if knocking it off makes the B6 significantly more affordable, then I'm all in.

Sound bar means nothin to me either since I have speakers. The wait is killing me here.

I've had my E6 65" for almost a few weeks now and I've had 0 issues with it. Absolutely the best TV I've have ever owned. And it's gorgeous.

Anyone good with audio here? I want to do a really good, but simple, 2.0 setup with my TV. I've got the floor standing Martin Logans.. but unsure about the most simple and cleanest (as in less cables) way to connect them to my TV. Source is a HTPC.

I was looking for a good 2.0 receiver with the latest HDMI firmware on it, but no luck. Most 2.0 receivers have no HDMI.

Right now I've been using a Sonos Play 5 that's just connected through a 3.5mm cable to my PC and it works nice..

Yeah it's pretty god tier actually. Avatar and Gravity and 3D animated movies look insane. 4K + OLED does wonders for 2K 3D

Can't see any reason why it wouldn't be great as a monitor. It has great PQ, and 17ms input lag is as good as it gets on TVs nowadays.

are there advantages of getting a G6 over a E6 or C6?

G6: Flat with 3D. Panel on glass design. Attached 4.2 soundbar that swivels depending on tabletop or wall mount mode.

E6: Flat with 3D. Panel on glass design. Attached 2.2 soundbar.

C6: Curved with 3D. Design similar to the 2015 curved model.

--

G6 is out in 65" only (77" coming in October) and reviews have been posted.

E6 is out in both 55" and 65" sizes but only review has been posted of the 55" model.

C6 is out in limited supply on the 55" only. 65" Should be out soon No reviews yet.

Input lag on the G6/E6 are the same. HDTVTest measured a 65" G6 with 744 nits peak brightness and 94% DCI. They measured a 55" E6 with 596 nits and 96% DCI. Too early to tell if the differences in brightness are due to the series (G vs E), panel size or some kind of production anomaly.

55" or 65"?

65"

I have the 55" and the picture is amazing, especially after my meter calibration.

So how do the new 4k LEDs stack up to plasmas? I want to upgrade from my tiny 42" panny plasma already, but it seems like no LED maker has yet to pass it in picture quality. I sure as hell don't have money for one of the LG OLED models either.
