Picked this up at lunch, and finally got a chance to dive into things in the evening. First time PS4 owner, although I'd collected a few games (Last of Us Remastered, Until Dawn) and PS VR in preparation for the Pro's arrival.
1) So I'm really gonna have to go through an absurd plugging-and-unplugging ritual ever time I want to play VR, huh? That's not great. It's not the end of the world either, of course, but it definitely will make playing in VR something that has to be planned, rather than a spontaneous "might as well throw on the PS4."
2) As I expected, I ended up getting informed that I'm limited in terms of HDRI made a $200, 5" choice in going with an M-Series over a P-Series Vizio, and so I'm getting "2K HDR." However, toggling it on and off during Last of Us still showed a difference, and the game looks amazing, so I'm not going to complain.
3) I will say, though, that it's tough not to have a game to really "compare" given I'd never played any of them before (except for the VR stuff, which I didn't have time to really get to individually this evening). Even TV and movies is toughI upgraded Netflix and watched a bit of The Crown in 4K, and it looked spectacular, but not such that I was truly blown away. Found some of the YouTube stuff more impressive, but might try to find something to compare between the XBox and the PS4 to see how much the contrast is.
4) So Sony really doesn't let you change the country on accounts still? I haven't used my PS3 much since I got my Xbox One two years ago, and it hasn't been plugged in since I moved last year, so I had forgotten that I had a separate "U.S." account in addition to my primary Canadian one. Frustrating that I "wasted" my primary username on an account that is now useless (as I'm not going to put my PS+ on the Canadian account and be forced to pay the higher taxes that come with it), but I guess that's what happens when you can't see into the future.
On the whole, happy to have held out for a bit more powercurious to try some more VR stuff in the weeks ahead.
